3rd Strike Match-ups

Paul Lee is dirty! He shaked the machine at Evo casuals against me! :frowning:

-Paco!=

the only two links he has are mk and charge back, forward+p

those link in the SA1… its so danm hard to get them right… however i did see a guy at a trny get pretty far, he beat a ken awesomely :open_mouth:

You can also link into SAII from those. Q has some pretty good anti-air and poking normals, as well as a couple good meaty attacks. He does good damage overall. He also has by far the most stamina (with the taunts) in the game, so that other characters have to do twice as many attacks to kill him with his taunts than they would if he didn’t have taunts, and even without the taunts his stamina is pretty good. Plus, he has one of the most damaging combos in the game, and several other very damaging combos. I don’t really think it’s that hard to link the rush punch into the supers, to tell the truth. I realize he isn’t much of a comboer, but the few he does have are pretty good on the damage. Again, I realize he’s not very good but I don’t think he should be placed last. I’m no Q expert, but he seems like a useable character to me. It doesn’t seem like he has such a hard time against every character in the game.

hey someone has to be last…

but i agree it looks so terrible just him being last like that, is there a way u can measure out the distance or win ratio or something showing how far apart each character is on the list? i know in third strike that the tiers are actually VERY close, alot closer than the tiers of other games thats for sure, but from all the good rankings and results why not put some type of number up there representing how far from top a character really is.

hey… regarding this ryu vs ken matchup… I was actually thinking about posting about this last week but I got too lazy…

Ryu beats Ken… !

Yes it’s true. Ryu DOES have better footsies…

standing roundhouse
standing forward <–drives ken nuts -beats low pokes
EX hurricane

Much better throw, which opens up his mix up better…

low forward which combos easily into EX fireballs…

Ryu vs Ken played properly is a ground based game with ryu throwing a bunch of EX fb’s. a lot of Ken’s advantages get negated by this type of game ie ex hurricane, crossup kick
That, plus Ryu flat out can dish out damage faster than Ken

Versus each other, I’d say Ryu comes up with small advantages all over the place. Nothing that would dominate, but certainly he is NOT disadvantaged as most people would assume.

think of it as:

advantage vs means 7-10 wins out of 10
no advantage means 4-6 wins out of 10
disadvantage means 0-3 wins out of 10

ken vs ryu is now no advantage.

shouldnt ryu be moved up to #8 now? hes movin up in the world

I’d like to throw in my 2 cents.

I disagree about Q vs Remy match, Q at disadvantage.

I feel that Remy cannot really rush down Q in order to prevent Q from taunting. That’s just a huge risk for Remy, since Q may dish out ridiculous damage on Remy, then seize an opporunity to taunt. Q can probably has his own tricks up in his sleeve to keep away Remy, just to force Remy to spam LOVs. That way, Q can easily get the taunts in and it’ll be an uphill battle for Remy. After that Q can just walk in Remy’s range while Remy frantically keeps Q away. I wouldn’t say that Q vs Remy match advantage goes to Remy, but I’d say they’re pretty much has no advantage over each other.

I could be wrong, share your thoughts. (/me runs away from Remy players)

socal loves ryu (the new #7).

another typo?

how can ryu have an advantage over remy?(which i think isnt true)
when it clearly says for remy vs ryu its no advantage?

eh… he’s not THAT good… lol, put him below akuma!

Paul is still mad dirty! :frowning:

does anyone have ryu vs akuma vids? i’m not convinced that akuma is better.

or post any inconsistencies in the list, if there are any left.

in all honesty, i think akuma is better than ryu. of course, it all depends on who is playing whom. but akuma is just so much more versatile and powerful. ryu is your basic shoto – he takes alot of consistency/skill to play effectively.

ryu may be basic, but he’s very solid. i don’t see akuma as a solid character.

I should think Necro would have advantage over Ibuki and cough at least null advantage vs Akuma, simply by virtue of their wimpy stun bars. A single ES combo +1hit will stun, and after that the match is quite literally over. If not for the glaring top-tierness of Yun and Yang I’d say they’re in the same boat, but they at least have stuff to work with to get the hell outta the way. Akuma’s in the worst shape though, most of those end up getting green-barred in my experience. Yes, even JR.

N - There’s gotta be another Necro somewhere!

meh, everyone has favorites. but yea, unless the akuma player is very solid, he’ll end up losing just because akuma doesn’t have a solid defense. crap bar for stun, and crap damage. but in terms of versatility, akuma > ryu. EX isn’t important for akuma, and all his moves encompass ryu’s. don’t forget RD is incredibly easy to connect.

but then again, this is just my personal opinion.

as for necro, he is definitely worth noting. when i face my friend’s necro, i have to be wary not to overreact because any slipup will result in a barrage of stun loving combos. that and his damn anti-air punch is so annoying

Akuma vs Ryu is quite a even match IMO Akuma has the pressure rushdown game but yet Ryu hits HARD and can take big blocks out of Akumas life so easily so I really think that match can go either way depending on the players. Its certainly not a lop sided match by any means.

Just for god sake if they using SA2 Don’t get hit by Shin Shoryuken :stuck_out_tongue: .

what I meant was akuma is a better player overall, not akuma v. ryu.

akuma has superior special moves that own up most of the 3s cast, that plus 3 usable supers, including bs kara-raging demon.

sure, he loses hard to most of the top tier, but he beats the rest of the cast pretty badly-- in other words, he has more advantages in matchups than ryu does.
