“air resets”
the term “air reset” is inaccurate. if you hit an opponent while they are in the air and then execute a super before they land, the super will scale as if it comboed. this is a popular misconception.
for instance, if you are akuma and you do standing fierce XX short tatsu -> jab -> gouhadou, the gouhadou will scale as if it comboed even though it did not.
“escapable combo” is actually a better term. “air reset” is misleading and false.
Hey rock,
If i can consistently do tachi 720s (standing 720s) do you think you can bump hugo up on the rankings? I think hugo is a little better than sean or twelve at least…
Jes my opinion but they way Hung plays oro i think oro could be a little higher on the rankings…
sup 720
even if you can almost always do standing 720s, hugo still sucks because opponents can always run away from him as a plan b. unlike sentinel, hugo is not a threat at long range, so hugo has to put himself at risk or count on the opponent’s impatience to come forward to win the round. sean1 and 121 beat hugo1 of the same skill level. if hugo’s backbreaker had the startup invincibility of a dp, he would own. try hugo against watson’s or edma’s sean or big richard’s 12.
yes hung’s oro is really good, but don’t confuse a good player with a good character. hung is good, oro is not.
Last I heard Oro is quite high up tierwise in Japan now.
I see what your saying rock. Damn ed ma:bluu: !
hahahha. that ed ma sure is silly!
I escaped Urien’s corner unblockable in casual play against KO at Evo. I parried the first hit of the aegis low, then managed to block the knee and I was pushed out of the trap leaving KO’s urien in the corner. I was Makoto btw.
the continental plates have shifted, and ken is now #1 in socal. oro bumped up to #11. hugo still sucks.
it says remy has an advantage vs 12 and a disadvantage vs 12, is there a glitch in your system or is remy that interesting a character or what?
Ken sucks. :o
remy and 12 fixed, it was a mistake.
IMO, Ryu beats Dudley and any overall advantage Ken has over Ryu is small enough to be put in the “no advantage” category.
For some reason, Oro is mentioned twice. Just thought I’d let you know so others won’t get any misconceptions.
thanks for pointing that out, alex is fixed. if i ever mention a character twice in an adv/no/dis chart it is a mistake.
ryu vs dudley is now no advantage.
“…Ken has over Ryu is small enough to be put in the “no advantage” category.”
Ken can sneeze and earn super. that is a very large advantage.
Ryu has no advantage vs Ryu. Tight.
Anyway, Ken is obviously a better character then Ryu. But if you look at that particular matchup, I still think they are pretty even because it boils down to a ground game and both of them have very very strong ground games.
Ken has:
sneeze into super
good crossup into throw/not throw games
get out of corner for free ex hurricane kick and just the air ex hurricane kick in general
slightly better ground pokes (only slightly, in fact i shouldn’t really list this)
slightly better overall speed
Ryu has:
ex fireballs is the best poke
WAY better overall throw games because of kara-throw
high stun factor combos (j. fierce, fierce, ex lunge kick, uppercut and c. forward, hurricane kicks are both OW with stun meter)
slightly better anti-air game with his far stand strong and jump strong
So in the end a lot of the match is decided by who can play the footsie game better and get the knockdown which leads to the all important game deciding wakeup mindgames. So who’s better at knocking down? As far as characters go, neither IMO. It also depends on who can corner who. Ryu tends to corner faster with his ex fireballs and hurricane kick. And I would think his kara-throw could be done to throw them backward toward the corner too.
I guess if I had to rank it in some categories it might go something like this:
Throw games - Ryu
Jump in ability - Neither
Footsies - I’d almost give Ryu the advantage but that’s probably going to far so neither
Anti-air - Ryu (slightly)
Speed - Ken
Power - Neither
Rage - Evil Ryu
Cool factor - Neither (?)
Magic - Black Mage
Maybe Rock can come up with some better categories.
Oh yeah, Ryu beats Dudley essentially the same reason Ken beats Dudley. Ground game is too strong. Plus he has roundhouse. Owns up a cornered Dudley.
Standing Roundhouse?
Dudley will just cross-counter it!!
Why is Q considered so horribly bad? Surely he does well against at least one other character, right? I mean, I know he’s not good, but he doesn’t seem as bad to me as you all have said.
