3rd Strike Match-ups

Low strong into Brave Dance on reaction is pretty easy.

Billy,
does Elena’s sitting strong have the same properties of Ken’s sitting strong, or Chun’s sitting forward? my timing and reactions are ass, so i wouldn’t know if it’s worth practicing. Also, any suggestions on Elena vs. Ken or Chun? thanks.

Can someone please break down the akuma/dudley matchup? What does Akuma have to do to win this one? Thanks.

While I wouldn’t exactly say it has the same properties as Chun’s low forward and Ken’s low strong (which look like they have longer [cancel time+hitstun]), it’s definitely possible to link it on reaction. I’m not sure this works with sa1 too because of its range. I can do it and I never really practiced it (though I did practice similar links with other characters). It’s definitely worth learning if you’re big on Elena IMO.

I don’t play Elena much so I don’t really have any advice vs. Ken and Chun, sorry. Those two match-ups must be pretty tough, esp. Chun. I don’t really know anything about Elena except EX combos, back + roundhouse, short>kara-throw and low strong into Brave Dance. Back + roundhouse seems to work well against throws and sweeps.

Can someone break down Makoto vs Ken matchup. How can Makoto beat Ken?

Hugo destroys Chun-li?

Here’s an interesting question I’d like to ponder to you people.

I was in a competition, ill prepared cause of the last second notice, but somehow got experience in it. My chars. i mostly use is Yang, Alex and necro for now.

I would like to know the match versus each of them, the strategies to be put against each, as well as the desired super.

Also for an extra effort to ask, I would like to know the advantages and disadvantages over chars like Oro, Remy, Dudley, Ken, Hugo, Chun-Li, Yun, etc…

Also some ideas of important combos and traps i need to perfect and/or look out for in future when I play someone as skilled w/ either my chars or the ones mentioned.

Many thanks…

alex player? i remember one from…

ummmm that competition your talking about, was that by any chance the run ran on may 9th in china town fair?

hehehe i was the remy

can someone please break down the akuma/dudley matchup? In particular, what should Akuma watch for and some of the things he needs to do to win the match?

Thanks in advance.

vigorous: watch the sbo finals, izu vs spell master j

dominator: other way around

dogberry: dudley to me if one of my easiest matches [losing only to urien and hugo]. abuse your dash in low forward, because when you do connect, you have a free xx low hurricane to juggle with [fierce xx medium demon flip, dive kick, standing fierce xx low hurricane…]. since dudley’s a combo abuser, you must make sure you’re about to parry any of his jumpins, because if you dont, you’re going to eat standing roundhouse ex machine gun. dudley’s arsenal of moves puts you at a high disadvantage, so make sure to abuse air fireballs when he wakes up to mix in some low/high [low MK or forward MP]. watch out for wake up supers though, so tap forward and hold back if you’re close. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

but of course, these are not full proof plans. each player has their own styles, and i’ve not played every dudley there is. that’s just what works for me. just keep playing and eventually you’ll enlighten yourself [i hope]

yo vig, you wanna see how makoto beats ken, watch the n cubed footage. if i go to the tourney this weekend, ill bring it with me

ps whats up with the housing??

What are elena’s best anti-airs and what should she use to poke at dudley with? Which moves should be really used against him? What the real weakness to rolling thunder?

Rolling thunder seems to have less priority than the corkscrew blow, and it’s a long bar for the damage it deals (not too great).

You could use the vanilla scratch wheel, since the roundhouse version hits three times and takes the opponent a couple times before they learn to parry more than once. That’ll screw 'em up when you just want to throw them instead. Also, rhino horn is a great anti-air, since the parrying is kinda slow (different from faster uppercuts), they have to be pretty quick on the draw in order to retaliate after they parry it, and most cases will have you flying safely away. She also has the standing mk and crouching hp chain, chains always screw up the guys who think they’re hot on parrying. Be careful with that, though. If they decide to attack instead, she hits pretty low to the ground and will most likely get jammed.

When facing dudley, I don’t modify my tactics with elena too much, but the strikes I primarily use for poking are the crouching medium kick, both command overheads, and the slide. I also use the ex mallet smash to quickly cover distance and throw out a safe move that can be damaging if they throw something out.

Mmmmmm… butterscotch, my favorite…

Back + Roundhouse!

Thank you for sharing your knowledge, but I must ask what’s a “vanilla” scratch wheel? Also I need to know the best things to counter his laggy/red parried attacks. For instance, how do you counter that close j.HP or the Machine gun blow? Last thing how YOU play a safe mixup/mindgame? Damn I love this game!

Does that move work for all those things?

if someone likes to jump in and tech in the air, just do two standing jabs and sweep when they land

Akuma vs Chun Li

I seem to be having trouble fighting a Chun li that pokes and uses low attacks. Should I rush down or turtle?
