3rd Strike GGPO noobs

I just realized I actually gained rep for the first time today. How does it work?

just do it anyway. if you keep on trying something that doesnt work against someone good, then you learn to not do it. youll learn what NOT to do by playing against people who know how to play the game, instead of thinking wakeup supers are so0o0o0o good, while playing against bad players.

its better to know you suck and learn good things from there, instead of learning bad habits from playing idiots.

Hey guys, I really, really want to play 3S on GGPO, and even though I did everytihng I thought I was supposed to, it still gives me this message-

You must have the game ROM to enter this room. Put sfiii3n.zip in C:\Program Files\GGPO\roms\

Does anyone know what I can do? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I don’t mean to sound rude, but have you tried google and searching for somewhere that has that “sfiii3n.zip”? You just need to download that file and put it in the folder like ggpo is telling you.

/captain obvious

No, its cool. I have already done that. I have tried that several times. I put it in there and did exactly what it told me and it still gives me that message. Man, I want to play with you guys so bad on GGPO. I just got a new joystick and everything!

I made a ROMs folder in GGPO in Program Files. I dragged sfiii3n.zip to the folder. Am I missing something?

Try running ggpofba (or something named like that) it’s just the standalone emulator, after the first time it runs it should create all the folders iirc, see if you can run the game from there.

Also on the issue of playing better players it is the best way to get better but there’s nothing bad or wrong about wanting to mix in some players within your skill level. Heck, every sport does it and for many it’s still a better way to learn on a curve rather than just jump in the deep end. All depends on how you learn.

I know a thing or two about the game… I just can’t properly execute anything or play smartly in it anymore, lol. So yeah, anybody who’s willing to break me back into the game I’m all for it.

practice practice practice practice practice practice…OH…AND MORE PRACTICE

we talkin bout PRACTICE

Screw practice. Just play tekken and be MYK.

No, you’re supposed to load the rom from your legally-purchased copy of Street Fighter III :nono:

when i downloaded ggpo the roms folder didn’t show up. what do i do about that?

i’m a scrub too. add me hong2221.

I don’t think playing against noobs is going to help your game at all, nor does it make it any more “fun” if you start crushing them and play someone decent and get crushed. I’m not a good 3S player by any means, but if I had a choice between playing a handicapped guy who can barely fireball or getting my ass kicked by Kuroda, I’ll pick Kuroda every time.

Look at it this way. You learn more from losing than you do winning. For sure. When you lose, you can look and see “why” you lost. When people win, for the most part anyways, they tend to ignore the big flaws in their gameplay because hey, they’re winning right? Don’t fix it if ain’t broken. But that’s a huge misconception.

As far as “fun” goes, it all depends on how you look at it. I can walk away from a 40 game set and I lose all 40 games, but I still had fun playing. I’ll use GGPO as an example. Ac-Slayer challenges me out of NOwhere. I already know he’s really good and I’m pretty bad. AC stuck around for about 40 games and switched characters. I had wanted to quit at about 25 games, but he pulled me back in and said “Look, if you want to get better, you have to lose before you can win. You’ll get better just by playing me.” And I did. You have to play the game because you enjoy it, win or loss. If your sole purpose of enjoyment from playing games comes from winning, then you’re doing it wrong. Sure, winning is fun. Everyone loves winners. But the thing that separates winners from the rest of us is that they lost before they could win.

Hope that makes sense.

you have to make it yourself.
also I think you need sfiii.zip and sfiiin.zip

How are you supposed to know what you’re doing right when you’re going to get crushed anyway?

i play on GGPO under Oneder, my Dudley is scrubby at best. Feel free to hit me up

I got you on the A3. Just try to find me in the ST room, since i’m there 98% of the time.

You make a new folder call ROMS and put your roms in there.

To fucking easy!

I don’t know if you are joking or not, but I have the game for Xbox (the anniversary collection), is there any way to load that and maybe it will work? (sorry not a noob at 3S but a complete noob and this kind of stuff)

I did all of that but when I go to GGPO and click on SF: 3S it says “You must have the game ROM to enter this room. Put sfiii3n.zip in C:\Program Files\GGPO\roms”

But I did this already. oh well :frowning: I dragged the sfiii3n.zip and sfiii3.zip into the folder. Did them each seperately and then together. AAAAHHHHH I want to play so bad.

Seriously?

Ask questions. Get feedback. Watch videos. Practice combos. Play a lot.

Too many people go in with the loser’s mentality of “Oh shit, I’m playing (insert good player’s name here)” instead of the mentality of “Ok, I’m playing Ryu. What can I do against him? What can he do? How can I stop him from doing what he does?”

There’s no simple formula to winning. Like some others have said, playing scrubs will not open you up to high level strategy and play. You have to play the best to become the best.
