Looking for more people like myself that want to play 3s on GGPO but are at noob/beginner levels. The competition on there is just fierce so I’m looking for other noobs like myself.
I would say try to find someone above your skill level, but not too high that they just wipe you out. Keep in mind if you are ever going to get good at this game you need to be playing people better than you. Taking those losses are always beneficial because they force you to grow as a player.
Also, you could simply ask this in the room itself.

Yeah I don’t play 3rd Strike often but there really are great players on GGPO. Even if your opponent is way better than you, it does help to keep fighting him over and over again. It also helps if the guy you’re playing with actually chats with you. It makes it more fun and exciting. They’ll also tell you what mistakes you’re making.
I had a long 3rd Strike session one night with a random dude who kept owning me but I eventually got to his level after like thirty matches. At first he was just whooping me all day but then I started realizing things like I would see his attacks coming so I could parry them, react with something and my throw-teching reactions got better. My execution also got better in the process and my confidence in 3rd Strike rose overall.
After all that, I challenged a friend of mine (who has always whooped me in 3rd Strike) in 3rd Strike on the PS2 and I actually had a chance against him this time. He even told me, “You got better”. I said, “I know. I practiced with this dude in GGPO, that’s why”.
Whoa, I’m glad to see all the responses. My real idea was to get a thread database of a bunch of noob players. There’s GG/BG threads for every game on the site so there should be a NG thread or something. Just a thread that has your location and you can explain how noob you are. The 20 pages of all skill levels is hard to sift through.
I understand playing better players makes you a better player but christ, I get my ass owned on GGPO. Everyone I’ve played on there has been cool about it. I just want someone who’s a little better better than me, not some 1337 G0D 7 year 3s vet. It makes me feel hopeless, lol.
I’m going to work on my Ken a bit more and then I’ll look for some of you folks on the GGPO’s.
I don’t have a PC but I play on my friend’s computer as jflash1 sometimes. I’ll probably make my own account sometime, but until then look for me under that name. I’m a US east player so if you’re nearby hit me up.

I’m just starting out, too, I play on 2df rather than GGPO, though, but I’ll go on GGPO for a couple nights, gladly. I’ll be hanging out late nights/early morning EST until December 12th, coz I’m moving that day and no internet where I’m going for a while.

Well yea, to get better, you have to play someone better than you. Its just like any other competitive sport in the world. But there’s a limit to that. If someone is significantly better than you, they have to pull it back significantly or its just no fun.
