3rd Strike General Discussion Thread

Check the NBA thread, Katie.

EDIT: Play 3rd Strike, it’s a good game.

Har har.

You sure got me. -_-

Speaking of 3rd Strike, why you don’t play no more?

live ran out

got a ps4

Did the Newton beginner tournament thing again today. Did so, so badly. Yamatora kind of robbed me of being able to get some wins though by going first against a really weak team. I was one of the worst players there today, but fate put two people seemingly worse than me on the same team, and I wasn’t given a chance to fight them on stream. Also their end cap was TAX, who was the only person I got a round on last time.

Oh well. Yamatora seems like a nice guy. Speaks English well.

HK Shoulder into Stun Gun too STRONK!

Spoiler

Did 5Star forget that Chun can just walk under or st.LP to get out of the Stun Gun?

Aaah sorry, yeah I did. Thought no one would use it anymore lol. I have a bad habit of deleting things. I’ll remake it when I get a chance.

That would be dope, thanks!

Are there any interviews about the development of the game? I remember someone saying Ono said that the dev team was worn out by the end and put out not their best work. Maybe it was just gamefaqs bullshit

@Deemo, can’t find that much info on the tourney, do you have some of the times?

If you mean 3S, the only negative Ono has to say about it is that the game tanked because its learning curve alienated a lot of more casual players. Other than that, he’s said in a few interviews that he was proud to have helped work on the game and is grateful for there still being tournaments for it.

Honestly speaking there were a ton of reasons why 3S tanked, but in any case this is just Ono’s word.

Every article I’ve seen from someone in the industry where 3S is mentioned, 3S is considered one of the greatest fighting games of all time.

Watching the evo finals for usf4 blew my mind open. I haven’t touched 4 or watched it in a long time and wow, that game is just a nightmare isn’t it.

The genius of 3S is that defense is as active as offense.
SF4 is so incredibly weighted towards defense it’s just awkward.
In 3S you make every moment either a road to victory or defeat. Every, moment. The game does not stop you from getting yourself killed.

SF4 outright acknowledges its defensive nature. ultras give you a way back into the game when you’re behind in life. you NEED them because the game is so stacked for defense. They make you attack so many times to do so little damage it’s no wonder the game is about running away and mid screen setups.

When i see people talk about footsies in sf4 my eyes fall out of my head. 3s IS ground game/neutral game. at any time you can break from being the defender to become the attacker. there is nothing but the neutral game. what other fighting game comes close to that achievement?

i know we all say we’re past this shit, but even seeing praise for this shit out of the corner of my eye with any regularity makes me cringe.

edit: ‘kids today, get off my lawn, etc.’

Guilty Gear finals were dope, at least.

They weren’t too surprising but yeah.
Nice to see some real high level Faust. I also haven’t touched Xrd at all.

It’s crazy how much most of it looks just like the old games when you’re watching it at a relatively low res. At least looks like how my brain remembers it.

I was watching the finals for MKX and Ultra David or Aris mentioned that MOV is playing both MKX and Killer Instinct. Is that actually true? I can’t find any other info about this.

I saw MOV play MKX and SF4. He seemed to do well in both.

Is the RF who placed top 8 for Marvel the same 3S RF? Was unaware he played Marvel if so.

He’s also pretty good in GG.

Yeah if I rememeber right they said he placed top 32 in MKX.

I think RF beat chrisg at evo in marvel.

that rkf and rf

two different dudes

I thought the same thing, though

RF the Chun player is the same RF. People in the chat were mistaking him for RX.
