Wednesday, huh. Maybe I can manage it if I get a week with a weird schedule. Thanks. The other place is actually about the same distance, unfortunately. Good to keep in mind though.
Magmax does freeplay Night Warriors every other Saturday, I’ve found, but nothing about any other game. Night Warriors is cool and I like it, but it’s not the game I spent the last year or so pathetically trying to get good at.
Yeah, cashing out on a strong finish at the end is too important to risk dropping the link, though styling is nice.
Anyhow, to amend my previous post: Since it’s possible to get three Jab-MGBs after EX-MGB on midscreen Q if you really tighten things up, an even more damaging followup would be Jab-MGB x3 >> walk up, t+Fwd xx Frc/EX-Shoryu (SSB doesn’t connect, as the stuck-out arm part of air-reeling Q’s hurtbox appears too low for it to make contact).
Also you can end after any Jab-MGB with walk up, t+Fwd/cr.Str xx SA1/SA3 if you want to burn more meter, though if it’s not the third rep you might as well just SSB because of the scaling.
Not that any of this really matters, as it’s scraping for peanuts of extra damage against Q, heh…
Considering you’re already juggling Q couldn’t you walk up do a sweep and then finish out with the appropriate jab mgb combo?
Damage being the incentive, you might even want to not finish with an uppercut after so many mgb’s and so might just defer to a reset instead? just get 'em on their feet with enough ground for you to apply some real pressure rather than giving them all that time to think about what to do next through a knockdown.
Sweet.
I was contemplating going.
I’ll have to try to convince some more people to show up.
Considering 3S (somehow) got shunned from inclusion, I wasn’t sure if there’d be a lot of players showing up but I’m sure there’ll be space in the free-play area.
I’ll have a couple people with me that I know play at least a little bit. They’re all pretty anime nowadays though so I’m not really sure what our setup situation is going to be. I don’t especially want to drag a monitor with me all the way from Michigan either. But there were definitely some guys on 3S most of the weekend last time I went, which was UFGT 9 I think.
But I mean there will be plenty of VSav so I’m good either way I guess.
Had an excuse to go to Mikado on Saturday, so I took it. I guess 4pm on Saturday isn’t the best time? I think there was some Vampire Savior thing going on. I did some Dudley mirrors with some guy whose skill level I had a hard time determining, but I kept losing by small amounts. Then I beat him a couple times, and he switched to default Ken and his better-than-me ness was a lot more pronounced. Was losing too fast, couldn’t spend the money.
I also fought an SA3 white Alex who at first I figured was just messing and was going to switch to a real super, but I beat him like 5 times and then he walked away. Then I fought a YSB color Hugo I also figured was messing with me, because he was good at landing 360s, and did a 720 on me several times when I had almost no health left…but I beat him several times and he never changed, so I dunno. Maybe next time will be better!
Cool place though, I didn’t know they had a sit down Space Harrier.
The gamecentres typically have a specific ‘day’ specified for some type of game. Looks like for Mikado 3S they have weekly tournaments on Tuesdays 19:00: http://mi-ka-do.net/baba/event/
You should also check out Gamespot Versus, I don’t know what days are 3rd but they switch out most of the arcade boards to whatever game they’re running. One night it’s 3S everywhere, the next night ST…
Figured I’d check this place out since there’s (300 yen) freeplay Saturday, and it gave me an excuse to see some of Saitama city (which I basically forgot to do). The mini-map on their website is kind of confusingly oriented and it took me an embarrassingly long amount of time to find the place. Being better at Japanese would’ve helped, but c’mon don’t use Family Mart as a landmark there’s one of those every 8 feet.
I got there like a half hour late and there were only 2 other people signed in (I think an employee was playing too), which was kind of awkward. More people showed up around 4 though. Not a ton of people, I’d guess only like 10-14. Still, it was fun. I lost a lot. I think I won a few legitimately though. There were a few times where I felt like the other guy threw the match, but then he rematched with the same character, so…I mean, why would you do that?
I feel like Japanese players, or maybe just offline players in general, have a different pace than what I’m used to. It’s weird. I fought a default Urien who was really good at blocking, but his offense was super predictable, and I felt like I should’ve parried about 100 things that I didn’t parry because he timed stuff just slightly different from what I’ve come to expect. He barely even used unblockables, it was kind of upsetting. I did better against him with Makoto than Dudley, because you can’t block karakusa. I still suck at CPS3 timing, so I was happy I landed a double. Only one, but I didn’t get a ton of opportunities either.
As badly as I was doing, I didn’t feel TOO overwhelmed, so I’m assuming these people weren’t top level. The only person who I really felt like I couldn’t do anything against was some Yang player. Just felt like I was always guessing with both my offense and defense, and I guessed wrong 4/5 times. One time he tried to reversal SA2, but I jumped over it and got all excited to actually be able to hit him for a change, and I inputted ex MGB and nothing came out and I wanted to cry. I’m historically kind of awful against Yang though.
Went to Game Newton today for freeplay, but got roped into the beginner’s tournament because my Japanese is awful and I didn’t know what was going on. If anybody saw the stream, I was the guy who clearly didn’t deserve to be using pink Dudley. I got a round on that one Elena at least! Kind of by a lot…I hope it was a legit round.
I don’t get why the freeplay ended 2 hours earlier than the site said it would. Kind of disappointing. I think I only actually saved a couple hundred yen.
I saw the brackets but no video. Guessing you’re ジュード (Jude)? I didn’t even know Newton had free play on Saturdays. thought it was just Wednesday’s for some reason.
Yep. You got my name right too! It seems like Japanese people have a lot of trouble with my name / think it’s funny. I have way too many internet handles and I feel like all of them translate badly, so I just went with my name.
My first match was against a Chun-Li who, surprise, thanks to my entire 3S experience being PSN (and losing to Dankah a bunch) I have no idea how to fight. I need to start studying up.
