There is, and in my opinion, it’s super underrated. Every one of those guys I’ve met is a class act and if not great, a solidly decent player. I would highly recommend anyone to at least go visit.
Some of those guys stream every Wednesday on FightCade using Twitch with all levels of competition. I know Denjizz and Kyo stop by occasionally. I’ve got my issues with FightCade, but if it works fine for you I’d at least check their stream out.
And Virtua Fighter 5 FS Complete is $6. Go buy it anybody who thought about it, but didn’t want to spend the money and subsequently forgot the game existed because nobody in America ever talks about it.
I would but no one ever plays longer than a week and then I’m stalled in training mode because I can’t imagine anyone would fall for something as stupid as thing_I_just_made_up_.
What is your preferred A.I. partner to train against? I’ve found that Ryu and Akuma’s A.I. plays pretty close to an actual person and make for good Parry practice.
In arcade mode, I like all the shotos, and Dudley. Most of the other CPU opponents are just irritating. I’ve tried the “just try to parry everything” game, but most of the CPU seems really erratic, I can’t figure them out. And Yun taunts like crazy, I can’t stand it. Chun is probably most annoying of all, and Oro is most harmless. Chun seems to always know what combo I want to practice, and go out of her way to avoid letting me do it. If I want her in the corner, she’s out. I want to be in the corner? She will repeatedly jump over me to get there.
Maybe one day I’ll understand the magic of exploiting the CPU, but several hundred arcade mode playthroughs in, I’m still not so great at it. I know they never block Electric Snake if you cancel it while they’re blocking high, and are in general easily tick thrown. Other than that, everythings kind of a tossup.
I keep losing to Ken’s AI… He’ll whiff 3 Shoryukens in a row, but he’ll also do stuff like f.HK (hold) into throw, which is like the easiest fucking thing to react to but I still get fucked by it every time. He’s also pretty handy with the psychic DPs too, and I can never punish a ground Tatsu that I crouch under.
Dudley’s AI is actually the most predictable out of them all. There are several times when I can read what he’s going to do for the next 5 seconds, seriously (and the other times he’ll surprise me with a c.HK out of nowhere). It’s really memorable how he will ALWAYS do a HP Machinegun Blow after performing a LP MGB (usually after he whiffs it from full screen).
One irritating thing about the AI in this game is that wakeup mixups doesn’t do shit. I mean, of course it won’t - it’s a primitive AI that executes an algorithm, not something that can be conditioned and put under pressure like a human mind.
But anything you perform meaty always gets blocked, be it high, low, mid, safe, unsafe. I actually still don’t know how to do meaty UOH in the corner into 2xLP SRK as Ken because I never practiced that shit in training mode. When I try it on arcade mode, meaty UOH will never hit. It’s the unbreakable rule. Anything after that intial block is up for grabs though.
I find that if you knock down the A.I. and try to throw it will do something on wakeup and if you try to Parry it will either throw you or do a very delayed move (like a sweep).
Has anyone every plugged a 3S board into an HD monitor?
I wonder what the lag is like… If there is any.
I expect there’d be resolution issues but I’m curious what else.
