3rd Strike General Discussion Thread

Never was released in Europe on PS2. Japan and USA had 3S releases for PS2

2004

More and more points to my stick being a root cause of additional input lag which throws me off. Which is I guess nice to know but sucks.
Because going from FBA/ggpo to cps3, i do almost everything to soon and mess up timings constantly for quite a number of games before i adjust to cps3 again.

OE (360) on CRT was the easiest transition to cps3 for me. That felt the best/most responsive for my stick.

What is your cps3 setup? And the stick maybe madcatz ps3?

If you have a Qanba Q4, they have noticeably more input lag on PS3 than 360 (relative to the fastest reference pcbs, at least). So maybe you use the stick in PS3 mode for GGPO, 360 mode for CPS3/360? Might also be that the board that polls your stick in the CPS3 setup ignores the stickā€™s requested polling interval and enforces a 1ms polling interval => Better response time.

Does CPS3 even have a polling rate, really? A lot of older hardware (think PS/2 keyboards and mice) are interrupt based instead.

by cps3 i mean versus city cab. so i donā€™t use the stick there i just mean that the difference is pretty huge for me and i used to think that was just the norm, but over the past couple years iā€™ve thought more and more it might just be my PC and stick combination does not like FBA.

i have an original run modded 360 madcatz stick. on pc itā€™s always felt off to me but i thought it must be the slight monitor delay + any usb. But it might be those things in addition to the stick itself not working quite as well on my PCā€™s setup.

Madcatz definitely has lag.

Adding in monitor lag plus pc emulator whatever probably ends up as Frankenstein 3rd.

360 versions significantly less if Teyahā€™s measurements are to be believed.

completely botched my post and the video/text didnā€™t post. Didnā€™t use to be this hardā€¦

Either way the point is you can buffer both jabs for a raging demon during an air parry, land and then finish it.

not that it explains me not being very good at the game.
but it definitely helps me understand why ggpo/fba is way more frustrating for me than 360 OE (or obviously VS cab CPS3)

I was looking at houses in Austin TX. noticed every house has some kind of hard floor. no carpet to be seen! is this a Texas thing or a lower 48 thing? maybe Alaska is weird but Iā€™ve never been in a house that wasnā€™t like 90% carpeted.

Austin is full of weirdos, that will probably explain most of your questions about the city.

Also, prepare to die. Iā€™m a lowly Finn and can barely handle the summers here up north. Canā€™t imagine Texas. Iā€™d probably just melt.

Carpet is needed when the floor tends to get cold a lot. Hardwood floors are an icon of style and Austin seems like the hippest place in Texas, maybe the whole USā€¦except Portland.

Hardwood floors for life. Carpet is gross.

Iā€™m in Houston and the majority of houses here donā€™t do a lot carpeting. Most houses Iā€™ve seen go for hardwood, tile, or a combination of the two.

Apartments are almost always carpeted though. I can only guess as to why this is, but Iā€™m going to guess it has to do more with the weather than anything. Lots of floods in Texas, probably easier to just re-tile than have to put new carpet in.

As for Austin being weird, while thatā€™s true, a lot of it is being weird because thatā€™s their thing. You get used to it after awhile, but it makes living there interesting. Are you looking to move down here?

donā€™t they use the same catchphrase?

ā€œkeep austin/portland weirdā€

i wonder if thats a bone of contention between each city. hipsters can sometimes be prickly!

As a fellow Scandinavian, I feel your pain. Anything further south than Germany and I catch fire and die horribly. =[

Also, warmer areas tend to be less carpeted afaik, even though none of my apartments/dorms for the last five years have had carpets.

Isnā€™t there a 3S scene in Texas at Arcade UFO?
