Work on fake telegraphing your actions. if you’re like a majority of the players I’ve played in 3s, you might have a stance you go to before grabbing. Like, JRod does this thing where he grabs you once, walks back and then blocks low. Once you wake up, if you didn’t uppercut he does karagrab. Many a Ken player will do this. Chun players do this a lot in the corner.
This will help gradually introduce you to sggk, warning.
Jumping in reaction to the throw itself… sorry that isn’t happening. If they are not guard jump’ing, SJ os’ing then they are either holding up (possibly covered by an instant air parry) or they are jumping in reaction to a predicable throw setup. As I do not know who you are playing and have no examples I cannot tell you want they are doing or what you can do to counter.
Personally, I always expect them to go the routes I do. The general games, compared to mine, tend to be really bare bones where you go straight to the 50/50s instead of working your way to them and the general poke game. Then again, I think maybe that’s just because I’m always trying to pull them out of their game and have the general knowledge required to do so. I would wager a guess that I make it possible for them to go for 50/50s all the time.
Would make sense considering that the few chars whose 50/50s I’m still not entirely familiar with are Q and Twelve. Maybe Sean. I would’ve added Remy to the last but Tebbo has been a huge help in that area.
Depends on the character a lot.
Some characters seem a little ‘meta’ if you will, in that they have normals and other functions which have good use usually against the shoto types/sizes.
So like Remy - Remy is just kind of ugly and weird.
but Ryu - Ryu doesn’t even seem like a mirror match.
I don’t mind Gouki mirrors mostly. They can go really fast though, as Pherai pointed out. If I can’t punish random tatsus for any reason then I get pissed quick. Depending on the type of player there can be a whole of fly around the screen which can be fun to watch. Yuki Otoko vs Uraken is one of the most entertaining matchups I can think of.
I hate playing Urien mirrors. It’s either super random/retarded or quite dull if both players chose to play safe (which is actually the only consistent gameplan for the mirror in my experience). Fat hitbox means cHP lifts from farther away than in most matchups but of course it’s a huge double edged sword
regarding secondary characters, I love playing ken mirror. I’d play ken mirrors alone for hours and wouldn’t get bored of that.
