3rd Strike General Discussion Thread

I hope they do it proper like back then.

I doubt we’ll get lucky but at least it’ll be on cabs this time and hopefully head2head. That would be sick. Of course, they’ll have the streaming equipment right next to the machines.

first location test is today,if memory seves me well

you
you even “disagreed” with me about my post
something you’re only supposed to do when people insult your best secondary character or your domestic pets

so i ran into cpu white ken again yesterday.
why does that happen.

it’s the event ryu v ken fight.
i started playing as oro i think. got to gouki (oro’s final fight) and then decided to switch to ryu. so then you fight ken as ryu and ken is in white, not red.
and he’s a real dick.

why would it do that, i never chose to play as red ken or even ken at all, at any point.
mystery of white ken.

It was white cherry ken

The art on the side looks 10X better than the DeviantArt shit we got in OE.

I’ve always wondered about the non default colored computer opponents. Ive gotten dark brown urien quite a few times

I’ve never heard of this before. Does it happen on all versions? I’m not one of those people who can play arcade mode for hours, but I’ve played it enough times in OE that I have the crushed over 100 cars bonus, and at least half that in the Xbox version, and I’ve played through it on DC and mame a bunch of times. Do they only appear when you’re doing really well, because that would explain why I’ve never seen them. Are there any videos of it, I’m not finding any on youtube. Is it always HK color?

It happens every time you fight the same character twice in arcade mode.

As Oro you beat Ken, you switched to Ryu who must fight Ken, red Ken has already been defeated so you face a palette swap.

Aw, that’s not interesting at all. I had my hopes up for something cool.

it is cool! it means one of them is an imposter

Can’t comment too much on the societal implications of this too much (I’d think that people would still prefer to play on arcade when possible, though it would depend largely on how good the port is).

I’m not a fan of what’s going on with the wonky graphics. Something up with the way the pixel scaling’s handled? Because the rows and columns aren’t always the same width/height. Same deal with the other three announced games, too.

'…That makes sense!'
Still kind of weird. It’s Ken, whether he’s wearing a different color or what.
I always take switching characters as basically a ‘reset’ of all prior events. Since it isn’t a tournament or anything so that shouldn’t matter at all.

So why does the ‘world’ remember that red ken was defeated. As if there are a bunch of clones and stuff running around.

Trying to get better at Makoto. I wouldn’t say she’s a better version of Alex, she has some better tools such as a GDLK command grab and GDLK air normals and a cr.MP that can be comboed off of, but he has better AA normals, better health and stun, and he can punish shit without using super or Red Parrying. Though, she does WAY better against Twins then Alex. Plus her st.MP is just such a good normal in general.

Biggest problem I have with her is Linking into SA1 off of Hayate. I think I got the timing down, you want to input the super right when she says the “Oh” in “Chestoh!” or so I think. I just can’t get it down consistently. It seems to come out more consistently off of LP Hayate for some reason. Part of me tells me to stop trying to do it and just focus on the other utilities of SA1. Doing it on wakeup, confirming off of a jump in or Axe Kick, do it off of st.MP on their wakeup to beat wakeup Parry nonsense, or do it off of a whiffed jump in which j.MK will often do… Hey that’s another thing, Alex’s j.HP and j.LP will often not whiff except if you’re fighting Twins or Chun.

I can see why more dudes use SA2 in it’s fairly easy to confirm into and even if you can’t do her TOD it still does good damage and it is an option to escape the corner.

It’s a link not a cancel.

You have to wait a super long time.
Makoto just kind of stands there for a while in basically the same position after she hits. So when you’re first learning it, visually its hard to get right because she just kind of holds the position and then recovery ends suddenly.

i think the utility of sa1 really is being able to tack on big damage and take rounds suddenly.

her standing mp is bullshit, that’s what it is. walk into her outstretched arms and then eat super -_-

Fighting a random bad Chun (what few there are for some reason) I was shocked that st.MP beats wakeup EX Spinning Bird.

I don’t like fighting the Shoto’s with Mak though. It feels like every button I hit is the wrong one and they guess right. The instant I try to go in and no, guessed wrong. j.MK? Nope, they walked forward or hit a button and I soar over them. t.HP? Nope, they jumped in. st.MP? Nope, they dash in Low Forward/Sweep. Try to tick into Karakusa? Nope, they do shoryu. Scored a knockdown and try to go for EX Axe Kick? Nope, they Shoryu out.

It’s very bizarre. Players who I could Stomp with impunity give my Mak trouble.

Can someone do a rough translation or even sum up the commentary on this video? Very curious what they are saying about a foreigner who’s kicking butt or just a different style of Gouki. Didnt want to clutter up the Vids thread.

They’re basically surprised at how good he is and also think he’s cool (kakoii). Not a lot of interesting stuff or playstyle analysis. That’s Taihee on mic right? Don’t expect a lot of insight (though his Urien is steadily improving). Good news though, Tokura is finally back after a long absence. Tominaga got his other half back! I’m curious as to the reasons behind the break from commentating and game spot versus stuff. Recuperating after his loss at co-op finals maybe?
