How popular are games like 3s and CvS2 in Japan? Are they as niche as they are in the rest of the world?
I’m guessing games like ST and guilty gear are the most popular old school fighters
3s is definitely more popular than CvS2. I love CvS2 but I know most the top players don’t play anymore besides d44Bas and the tournaments are infrequent and not as well attended as 3s tournaments.
CvS2 gets play sometimes, but I don’t hear too much about it. D44BAS probably still plays(or at least it’s still his favorite game) but I don’t know of too many people that still do. I’m sure Nuki still likes to play it too. 3S is still popular, though. Not as big as it USED to be, but it still has a fairly large, dedicated playerbase.
P.S.- Accent Core’s only like 5 years old, how is this old school… 8(

Nuki didn’t participate MANIAX Vol 3 because he joined Topanga Charity Cup volume 2 on the same day and did the commentary there. Nuki will come back to EVO this year for Tounament of Legends and (maybe) AE so he shows up in mainstream events a lot recently.

i would say that ,in tokyo, II X is pretty popular
3rd strike is popular,very popular
gg…not so much (mikado is the only hot spot)
cvs2 has been virtually dead for years
in 2009,the only 3 setups i saw were @ kaikan
bas and a few other players would go there every friday night or something like that,i was told
i went back to kaikan in 2010 and 2011 to play 3rd strike and i frankly don’t remember if cvs2 was still there

It seems like Kuroda wants to ‘master’ these characters and challenge his own skill set and perhaps he has not achieved a level of satisfaction with Necro yet that he has with let’s say his Q or even more recently his Oro.
Where is TM lately? I check all the East vs. West and SBO quals and he is nowhere to be found.
