3d Fighters need to be completely revamped

Hi, I’m a fighting game fan, mostly 3d to be specific. I noticed 3d fighters have really dropped the ball to be honest. With the advent of 3d gaming, more and more people were hoping for truly realistic 3d fighters, games that feel like a real fight. Instead what we get is some of the most retarded bullshit imaginable. Yes, I’m looking at you Tekken series, and Virtua Fighter to a lesser extent. These games are all bad, for a special reason.

Juggling. Juggling was a bug that was in old 2d fighters that got overlooked, then became a “feature”. Why is this shit still in 3d fighters, and worse, why do 3d fighters revolve around this nonsense? Tekken is one of the absolute worst games for this, it’s even worse than Bloody Roar for fuck sakes. Play Tekken, and this is how a typical game flows:

“Block enemy attacks, do launcher, keep enemy in midair by punching their feet/ass, do this til they hit a wall, keep hitting them some more”. The retarded Bound system made it even worse, since you can now bounce people off the fucking floor. Seriously? Wtf was Namco thinking? I’m sorry, but I want to play a fighting game, not a fucking clown juggling simulator.

Here is Tekken in action:

Now compare a REAL fighter, like UFC 2009:

Notice the difference? Which looks more like a real fight, and more exciting and fun to play and watch? The King of Juggle Fist Tournament, or UFC?

Virtua Fighter has this same problem, although not to the intense degree Tekken has it. Tekken is even worse than Bloody Roar, and that game had stupidly broken juggling. It also offered air recovery, air blocking, and air attacks that let you counter that shit at least. Tekken offers you the ability to roll your ass off the ground in a different direction after being bounced off the floor like a fucking super bouncy ball. Wow, how deep. UFC also has a much much superior indepth grappling system than Tekken’s “press this button to stop a throw” bullshit. I love how Tekken tries to sell itself as some hardcore fighting experience, yet the fighting isn’t even realistic at all. 90% of all fights end up on the ground, not one guy punching the other guy’s ankles as he stays suspended in midair. Come the fuck on.

3d games need to be more like the UFC series, those games are showing the true evolution of 3d fighters into something realistic and interesting, not jugglefest. And I’ll tell you something else, I’m sick of the characters in these 3d fighters too. They’re always either goofy as fuck, or these weird “Lol look how hardcore i am” characters. Look at Bryan Fury, he’s just a poor ripoff of Rambo and that demon guy from Melty Blood for fuck sakes. No, he doesn’t look “cool” or “badass”, he looks like a goddamned tool. “OMG look at me, I’m some guy wth short silver hair and tattoos and six pack abs and I wear an ammo belt and laugh when I punch people!!!”. Then Kazuya, another tryhard character, stereotypical japanese gangster bullshit, looks like he belongs in a 2 Fast 2 Furious remake or some shit. Then Hwoarang, everyone knows TKD is garbage as a martial art, yet I’m supposed to believe this wussy looking jrock biker fuck can beat Marduk one on one?

And Jin… he turns into a fucking DEMON. I’m real sick of fighters having fucking nonhuman demon characters. Look, Evil Ryu and Gouki are ok, but that shit works in 2d games. How fucking stupid does it look fighting a fucking demon guy with wings and tribal tats shooting lasers and shit as he flies around? Even worse, his design was directly ripped off of Illidan Stormrage from WoW, just he doesn’t have hooves and he has feathery wings instead of bat wings.

Also I’m sick of these stories. I just want to see REAL MEN fighting in an arena, not all these fucks fighting because some evil jap is gonna nuke the Earth or summon a devil god or whatever the fuck the stories are in these games. I want people fighting in real arenas, like UFC. Not people fighting on fucking rooftops and falling off and shit, or fighting behind some alley as there’s a thunderstorm outside, wtf kind of shit is that? DOA was the worst for that, having you fall off fucking buildings then fight in streets, wtf?

I really hope 3d fighting game developers take a good hard look at the UFC games and try something fresh and deeper, and not these boring, insipid juggle fests which cater to casuals and have retarded character designs.

TL; DR.

I’m fine with Tekken myself - T6 is a great improvement into the series. Balanced enough to give each character a chance to win competitively (except Zaf). Unless you suffer wall carry, combos don’t do half of your HP - and this only applies for top-tiers characters, like Bryan or Lili. Don’t forger the damage scalling too.

No one cares about plot/story on FG on a serious level, so your complaining is just irrelevant gameplay-wise. Kangaroos, bears, dinosaurs, robots and stuff are the stuff which makes Tekken have the weird feeling about the game.

Also, I’d rather have fun than playing anything “realistic”, if the latter is boring as hell.

VF only fails to attract casuals - since the game isn’t flashy enough. :frowning:

Maybe they should put Steve Wilkos in the next Tekken.

Too bad half of it ends up in some “mash X to not lose” struggle.

Last I checked, in a real fight people don’t punch like they’re covered in molasses and move around like they’ve got sticks up their asses.
Then again I don’t really watch MMA and I don’t keep up with what dudes are putting up their asses or whatever’s hot in the streets right now.

Play Tekken. Juggle like a clown.
Play VF. Feel lonely.
Play UFC. Stick somethin up your ass.

Then why go 3d then? People wanted stuff that was more “real”. People play 2d fighters when they want wacky shit, and 2d fighters are fantastic for that. But why should 3d have to be stuck in that? Games like Tekken and Virtua Fighter haven’t truly evolved. Why do they still have juggling? Juggling is just a really outdated system that originated as a BUG in old 2d fighters before companies decided it looked cool and made it a feature. In 2d it looks fine and works(GG for instance). In 3d it just looks retarded as hell. Picking some guy, and punching someone’s feet as they stay in midair? Come the fuck on.

You obviously have never been in a real fight before. Unlike your precious Tekken, real fighters don’t spazz around in jerky badly done animation and doing katas and stances while lunging at each other trying to punch. It’s called pacing and spacing and looking for the right moment to land a solid strike. MMA is real fighting, not this “OMFG look at my electric wind god fist” shit Tekken has.

I can tell people who been in fights from people who haven’t, because the ones who haven’t always try to make UFC look “gay” as their argument. If UFC is gay, Tekken is even gayer since every guy is some ripped dude with six pack abs glistening with sweat and shit, not to mention prettyboys like Jin, Hwoarang, and Lee running around in tight leather fetish clothes. UFC has real men fighting, not some sissy ass bodybuilder like Jin with his hair all slicked up trying to be pretty in his fucking leather pants lol

Real life has random knockouts, unexpected shit happens, deal with it. random knockout sure beats “omfg watch Lili ballet kick you into the air for 15 seconds as she juggles you like a bowling pin”.

Maybe, but his design from T5 and up has been ripped off of Illidan. He started out as just himself with some wings and those tats on his face, after Burning Crusade came out, the fucker was covered in tats, had bigass claws, his wings looked bigger, he suddenly had horns, and he was shirtless with leather pants and chains, I guess to make him seem “badass”, like Illidan did.

Real life knock outs aren’t random, there is a reason why a punch to a sepecific spot would knock someone out. There is no way to emulate this digitally unless you implement random chance.

If we’re talking fight games vs. simulation then that’s a possible debate but saying 3D fighters should strive for realism just because they’re 3D is completely ignorant. That’s like saying every 3D shooter should try to be Arma or Operation Flashpoint instead of the fake shit like Halo or Call of Duty.

It’s not just because they are 3d, it’s because 3d has stagnated and hit a wall. Does every 3d fighter really need to have juggling, seriously? The only 3d fighter recently I can think of that had no juggling was Fight Club, and sadly the game had poor gameplay which ruined that.

Man, I just saw a Chinese schoolgirl kick a grizzly bear 10 feet into the air the other day and push him 25 feet in the air with a series of jabs until the bear hit a brick wall.

On-topic, somewhat. This is probably what the FPS peeps thought about fast-paced arena shooters like Quake, Unreal Tournament and now the popular ‘realistic’ FPS like Call of Duty.
