This is just my two cents. But all in all, strider seems most potent when being used as an anchor. Strider level 3 xfactor with orbs is almost equally as bad as defending against phoneix in vanilla (maybe overstatement) but still. Hes pretty much unavoidable, and you cant even run from him in that state. Its almost a gurantee he will kill 2 characters everytime in level 3 xfactor. Again, this is just my opinion after one day,im sure things will change.
So basically I almost treat him like phoneix…build a team around him…that can do damage and get meter quickly,Ala-doom,dante,zero etc.
I was playing a Hulk and I don’t see how Strider can deal with Gamma wave over and over. Doom beam as you said may help. I will try Doom instead of Zero as you said.
Pointman or Anchor isn’t really the way to do it, he’s best served in the 2nd spot IMO.
Pros: Still has an an assist or two to work with, Has the meter for Oroboros, less vulnerable to getting murked at the start of the round or by an enemy with full meters like in the 1st or 3rd slot.
Cons: Only level 2 X-Factor for Orob.
I mean, I run Dante/Strider/Doom, and just build hella meter with Dante and play him like a resetmonster. Then Strider comes in, gets that roid rage and dem orbs and fucks up whoever’s left. It’s been working beautifully.
constant pushblocking fucks up orbs pretty good. There is no way to orbs, teleport for a mixup. dark phoenix in vanilla had soooooo many abusable tools and her projectiles actually had durability on them which isn’t the case here. Also, dark phoenix’s traps from vanilla would save her when she was doing her bullshit. Striders orbs don’t save him, the machines that throw the rings used to be a rotating hit box in mvc2 and they could save him from dumb shit. Now he just gets hit for free.
I’m sure there is a mixup during orbs where strider can get in for free solo but I haven’t seen it yet.
strider in the 2nd slot is meh. I also thought that was how he would work but think about this. Say your first character was doom on point and he dies. well, he was striders primary horizontal assist and now you will have to fight w\o one. in the 3rd slot, strider does absolutely nothing until someone can figure out some orb mixups that are actually good.
we need more strider technology to figure out his placement in a team build. I’m sticking him first\second but its usually first. Since he has some problems, I just beef him up with 2 solid top tier characters that can fight even if he dies. If you stick him second and your first character dies, its 1 less tool strider has to use and he certainly needs them in this game, AGAIN!!! =*(
I found with Hawkeye’s poison assist you can heavily abuse normal ouroboros and juggle the character and get one or two free poison arrows. Also formation B after a team hyper combo is a nice addition to damage. I’ll probably post some more stuff when I find how abusable this is.
In training mode I find you can input the teleport and the button press will both fire orbs and port. Sets up its own 50/50 if you stopped mashing for about a second or two before hand. Maybe something like mash, call jump blocking assist (drones) pause, port is a 50/50 full screen. As long as they pushblock they are making their way to the corner.
Right now my strider is a fraud .Shoultzula, work your strider magic and make him broken!
I’ve been trying out allot of Strider teams. The one i tried the most was Zero/Strider/Vergil… it’s pretty decent. Strider is very good on point, he’s super fast and you can always do ariel exchange to build meter fast.
Right now, i’m liking the chemistry of Strider/Wesker/Doom. Wesker sets up nice OTG stuff with strider, easier OTG’s! Strider’s orb fireball OTG is pretty tough to do for me, and wesker makes it easier. You also have two strong class S character with good stamina at back.
Still don’t have this GAT DAYUM GAME, but first thing I’m trying is Dante/Strider/Doom. Vajra assist for hard knockdown into cold shower sounds so good on paper.
I have my anchor Doom team (Strange/Vergil/Doom) and my pointman Doom team with Strider second. probably gonna be MvC2 Clockw0rk Doom (beam)/Strider (vajra)/Sent (drones) in the meantime until I find a better non-Doom anchor. dude does everything so damn well in this game and I need my fill of tridash offense to fill the Vanilla Mags hole. I hear Vergil on anchor is really damn stupid and I may have to try him out on that spot.
Strider, dante, doom is my main fav. Strider/dante is such a good duo. You can do effecitve mixups, just by a basic aircombo series endind in S, then call dante, wallcimb, land… This is pretty effective in corner.
Strider, vergil, dante is another good team.
Imo, the top 4 teams ive tried so far is:
Strider, dante, doom
Strider, wesker, doom
Strider, vergil, dante
Strider, sent, doom.
Sents rocket punch assist is very good for strider. It sets up that otg of his very nicely. Imo, otg assists are great for strider because his bnb’s are very tough.
I’m currently experimenting a Strider/Frank/Nemesis team.
Frank will help keep a lockdown with his shopping cart assist, while still usable with left/right teleport mixups. A TAC with Strider starting and Frank ending could net some good PP points. Easy LVL3 or LVL4 Frank after a combo by Strider.
Nemesis for his +1 armor launcher slam assist to catch opponents off-guard or to keep them rushers at bay. It’s also a nice combo starter with the ground bounce.
Im trying to make strange (eye), strider(vajra), doom(beam) work, it seems to have good synergy the only downside being that strider will probably not have enough for ourabouros if strange does well… but strange doing well is a bad thing so idk its seem really good.
Quick question. I haven’t really played MvC since the original and I don’t have very much time to practice, but what little time I do have, I’d like to spend on Strider. So when picking teammates for him, I’d like to go with the cheapest, most fraudulent, no skill required, characters possible. Which are those? Wolverine? Ghost Rider? I see the poster above me might be going with Strider/Dante/Vergil, which sounds cool, but those other two characters look like they take time to learn.
I realize my question sounds like trolling, but I’m not.
dante builds him the meter and gives him a free DHC in, gives him an assist that covers superjump height, and if dante dies oh well here comes strider with 3-4 levels and xf2 + doom plasma beam.
Wesker is an ABCBBCS monster. Doom takes a little work, but honestly he’s the best anchor in the game. He’s got braindead corner loops and easy OTGs off of jump S.
