3 Tickets to Eurasia: Strider Team Building Thread

Day one Team

Strider/Dormammu/Hawkeye

Can’t wait to get my hands on these three.

Striders dive kick assist seems too god like for me to use him on point, definitely going to use him as an anchor, or user if XF ouroboros spam doesn’t prove to be a reliable anchor method. Someone who can abuse his hard knockdown, like Zero/Dante/Doom etc, any strong characters with self OTGs

Yea I hope the assist lives up to the hype, it seems really good on paper and should work well with sentinel and maybe even storm if elemental rage > HSF still allows for some substantial damage. But so long as its useable ill be glad, I hate it when a characters assists are all terrible, its really upsetting. And it looks like it might allow for some sick incoming character mix-ups as well.

im running wesker/ ???/ strider anchor. need help deciding who to put as a1 dormammu or strange.

I’m in training mode with Zero, Strider, Sent. Feels disgusting for Strider. I’m feeling gram assist for now, but could very easliy use vajra.
Zero Shippuga assist is fantastic for 50/50’s, and Drones are Drones. Do a combo, knockdown, call drones, and call Dog covers the whole floor. No where to run  .

While I do believe Strider can be a very good pointman I feel he is better as Anchor. If the team is down XF3 and chances are you will have enough bars for Ouroboros and unleash Light Blue Orb Death upon thy foe. Not to mention that amazing Vajra assist

I do put Strider with Nemesis and Dormmamu, since Nemesis is a slow character and needs help to control space Vajra is the perfect lockdown assist for the job. Dormmamu gets the benefit of being able to create even more tricky crossups with teleports. Strider benefits from both of them as RL slam can help Strider extend his combos (that of which i’m still testing) and Dormmamu’s purification tower acts as an anti-air , you know if Vajra H wasn’t already a good enough one. As well as a and semi-useful OTG.

Sadly I hardly ever get to use my teammates assist because I only get to Strider through the death of Nemmy and Dorm. Someone has tried to snap back Strider in, but thanks to Excalibur I was able to get away easily.

However if Strider IS on point I feel a team constructed around him to make the ultimate crossup/mixup god is in order. It’ll be just like MvC2 in some ways Strider IS the team, but because of how good he is in this game with mixups, adding assists to the mix will only make him more dangerous. Say Hidden Missiles, Drones, Akuma Tatsu, Daggers of Denak, Bolts of Balthaak.etc. Still though its very high risk, Strider won’t be able to ToD people without select assists and or XFC his damage is just too low to do it solo w/o a level 3 or such.

I need some opinions on Strider as an anchor. I’m looking for an anchor for my team of Viewtiful Joe/Phoenix Wright and I’d preferably want it to be one of the new characters.

From what I’ve thought of

Pros
Ussually will have access to Ouroburos and XFactor for clutches or comebacks
Good assist for lockdown/pressure
Nice DHC options.

Cons
Low health so cannot call assist often
Assist hard knockdown can’t be taken advantage of really with my team, my team could use an OTG assist…
May be pretty useless without X Factor and/or meter

I’d like some dedicated Strider opinions on his spot as anchor, and how I should play him (or this team, if theres a better order.) If Strider doesn’t fit on this team, I’d like some other suggestions. I was personally also looking at Vergil, Firebrand, and Frank West.

Im in debate between Zero/Strider/Task or Strider/Dante/Vergil (ignore this order).

What assist should Zero be in?

I’d put Zero on shippuga.

Yea Im considering strider on anchor, he seems like he has enough options to control a lot of match-ups, he can switch it up from rush down to keep away like whenever it favors him and he has a lot of uses for the excess meter your other characters might have built. Plus he appears to have a really good assist, which is always nice for an anchor. Sure he has very low health, but when your the anchor you might be going up against a character who has x-factor in the back pocket and as such might die in one hit anyway, plus ammy was one of the best anchors in vanilla despite having 800k.

Whats the word on vajra though? Does it cause a hard knockdown? Cause I’ve heard conflicting reports.

Vajra assist is good for anti runaway but so far not much else. I don’t see him making a good anchor. His assist is not stellar enough to risk losing his ridiculous orb mixups. Vajra is a hard knockdown only on airborn targets.

I’ve tried strider on anchor but didn’t know what to do. I’m playing him on point for now to figure him out. At the end maybe he’ll have stuff that works alone (good enough alone) but he is starting to look broken with assists.

I’m playing Zero/Strider/Sent. Build meter for safe Orbs for strider, while Zero makes use of Vajra to prevent super jump runaway (only call strider for that). This is a good Zero team. Zero can win this alone. Use sentinel for mixups, and get strider in safe.apply pressure with orbs until they crack. Now you can guarantee a 50/50 mixup using Sent assist and dog/bomb and teleport. Hit, and finish characters off. Mixup on incoming character with teleports/birds/bombs.

fellow striders, i need some help constructing a decent team. i like using strider on point and so far it’s been working well. but i feel my team depends too much on meter. i use strider, vergil, and hakweye. and rapid slash and quick shot is doing pretty ok so far for my wall cling, formation B, teleport mix ups. but i was wondering if maybe somebody can recommend me a better anchor/bettery character that doesn’t depend so much on meter? and yes i know of wesker but is he really the only one?

When in doubt pick Doom. Meterless damage around 650k builds two bars still. Meter can dhc. For a million.

Also Zero.

It might. But not in the traditional sense. Orbs were a much bigger threat in MvC2 than they are in Ultimate (I refuse to call it a MvC Game) and Doom Rocks aren’t as potent in Ultimate.

Orbs in MvC2 were for chip damage, positioning, setting up throws that set up combo’s. Doom’s rocks helped with this with cross overs, guard breaks…etc.

Orb’s in Ultimate only seem to be about getting in. Not to mention the fact they take 3 bars to use which is pretty dumb considering how bad the super is.

Strider is likely going to be a character everyone bandwagons until they realize how bad he is. Aside from a few neat tools he has (Hard Knockdown dive kick…I can’t think of what else lol) he is a pretty meh character, which is a shame.

Shut the fuck up

I’m trying Strider/Dante/Magneto, considering putting Strider second though.

I’m trying Nova/Wesker/Strider. Feels good man.

Thank you.

i’ve tried some combinations for strider. The whole zero thing is a bit weird. Most people would probably start zero because he has a better tool set to use. Now when that is the case, its fine however, there will be a point where it will be strider\zero sooner or later and zero better NOT be your projectile. It doesn’t beat anything and he will have a hard time sneaking in and strider’s AA is so good he doesn’t need zero shoryuken assist.

doom beam works fantastic and so do drones. doom\strider\sent works very well currently considering how much doom got buffed but it can be hard to land some of his better combos on this squad. Also tried hawkeye arrows and those worked pretty good too. hawkeye might be overrated though but time will tell.

and yea, strider is the current bandwagon character. He does have some severe weaknesses that hurt him a lot and orbs aren’t nearly as strong as they were in mvc2 currently. we’ll have to see how orbs play out. Strider could play reset style in mvc2 because there was no tech direction, here in mvc3 those tech directions are fucking up his reset game pretty hard but again, its only day 1.

from my EXP, he needs a dominant horizontal assist. Its one of his biggest weaknesses right now

I feel you are right about the horizontal assists. He does need something to help him out.

I’ve been using Magneto for that but Weasel/Cold Shot could be pretty cool too.
