3 Tickets to Eurasia: Strider Team Building Thread

been trying to think up a team for a while now with strider on anchor, maybe you guys could help. I currently use Jwong’s wolv team but I am pretty bored of it, but a problem I usually have is I can never decide on who to use, so why not try asking around. These are the characters I can/enjoy playing: Felicia, Frank, Wolv, hawkeye, nova, sent, haggar, spencer, doom(really dont want to use doom if possible)

Felicia gets conversions off Vajra for about 650K…Hawkeye, Nova, Spencer and Doom all get piss easy conversions off of Vajra as well. I honestly suggest just trying each character out.

Quick question, how well does spencer go with vajra assist? What’s the overall synergy between the two?

Not great. It’s alright I guess. If you have another assist, like Wesker, then you can always end your combo with an up grapple.

Sometimes, I feel like Strider is just not as good as an anchor as he used to be to people. I feel like Strider’s worth goes right down the toilet once you burn x-factor and those 3 bars. Then he turns out to be a really average character in the back. Anchors like Vergil can still hold it down without x-factor. Phoenix/Dark Phoenix can hold it down too. But Strider I feel like he can’t without pulling some teeth. Honestly, I feel like he is way stronger as a point character than he is as an anchor.

  1. He has a problem doing damage, yes, but with TAC infinites running rampant, damage is not a problem anymore for Strider. He has a TAC reset after a regular bnb using Vergil assist where he can do j. L, j. H, j. S xxx L Excalibur, land, j. M, j. H xxx Excalibur L, land, S, blah blah blah. His bnb does 400k, the excalibur extension adds another 400k. If you super, that kills Wolverine. Have the right DHC, you kill 1 million health characters or more within a reset. So Strider has 4 ways to go. Up, side, down and tac reset, and they all lead to death. All this game is now is getting a hit and getting them to the corner, which Strider has.

  2. Health can also be a problem, but it shouldn’t matter at this point of the game because a. Everything dies in one hit anyway. and b. movement has became so advanced lately that you can almost avoid everything if your movement is crispy enough and your character has the ways out. Strider has some of the best movement options in the game with his ridiculous wave dash, excalibur, wall cling, and teleports.

  3. Even if you don’t know any TAC infinites (you should by now but if you don’t), he has a plethora of resets SOLO to kill you with. With an assist, the resets can double and they turn into another mixup.

  4. People can hardly block him as a solo character. Imagine him with assists.

  5. Strider can handle every single match-up. He only has like 4 non-favorable match-ups in the game IMO. Even those are winnable situations provided that you don’t fuck up and the right team composition.

  6. His confirms are really ridiculous solo. Due to him having assists with him, he can turn those random hits into more damage or even death by TAC if he can get them in the corner.

I think point Strider is how he is gonna have to be played in the future, especially due to how the game is now. I sincerely think that anchor Strider is good, but point Strider is OD with the right team composition.

The teams that I really really want to play is Strider/Magneto/Vergil or Strider/Doom/Ammy, leaning more towards Magneto/Vergil. Both are really strong teams because they have what Strider needs (lockdown assist and beam assist) and it has creative extensions with assists.

I respectfully disagree.

The problem is that most people don’t understand how to play him. Strider, in some ways, is probably the best anchor in the game. Let me go over what you said.

  1. Strider does good damage if he starts a combo with a Satellite. Even midscreen, you can go for Gram Loops to get 500-600K meterless…
Strider’s main problem is he doesn’t build meter. He barely builds a bar even with a completely optimized combo. Damage isn’t an issue if you want to play him on point since you can DHC into stalking flare, sougenmu, swords, etc. Or just go into an infinite.

  2. Health is definitely a problem. If you get touched, you will die without a reset/tac needed. He can be chipped out very easily. A big con to running him on point.

  3. Agreed. Strider has very strong resets.

  4. Strider is VERY difficult to block. Most Strider aren’t abusing his double jump instant overheads which if you learn how to properly jump while keeping his momentum you can overhead people from midscreen.
His mixup game is very strong. Also, nobody uses his frametraps. st.H, Activate Satellite, st.H, Gram L, shoot satellite, mixup your opponent. Rinse and repeat.

  5. He has some matchups that are incredibly difficult. Zero, Taskmaster, and Spencer come to mind for point Strider.

  6. Certain assists let you activate a Satellite within your combo. This guarantees much higher damage.

Though, he CAN be played on point and is definitely viable having him in anchor position is his best spot. Without assists he’s incredibly Strong. He doesn’t need any assists to establish a safe rushdown, he has really strong resets, and has triple layered incoming setups. Strider in general is ridiculous, but Dark Strider is OD.

His benefits over the other Dark anchors are:

  1. He has a doublejump during incoming. This is huge…This makes him MUCH harder to kill on incoming and lets you start your bullshit much more common than not.
  2. He provides an S tier assist.

I play Strider/Vergil/Magneto as my 2nd team and it’s really strong. Most people have no idea what the fuck is going on half the time. If you’re going to play him on point, he pretty much NEEDS Disruptor. Disruptor gives him retarded mixup, lets him charge a satellite without scaling, gives him slide confirms, and gives him Mag infinites. It’s his best assist by far. Doom Beam is way too slow. Missiles are actually better with him. Strider’s zoning is underrated.

So since Disruptor is his best assist, his best teams IMO are Strider/Dormammu/Magneto, Strider/Magneto/Doom, Strider/Zero/Magneto, Strider/Magneto/Sentinel, and Strider/Vergil/Magneto.

Legion into Swords is amazing.

I am trying to use Amaterasu (Cold Star)/X-23 (OTG)/Strider (Gram)

My former team had Deadpool with otg assist in the place of Strider, and X-23 was with anti-air assist. I decided to put Strider because my former team had no neutral assists for Ammy. But I don’t know if Gram will work well as a neutral assist because it have a lot of startup time, making it easy to be interrupted by faster assists. But I didn’t see it happening yet in the small time using it.

I prefer to use Gram over Vjara because Ammy don’t have a good OTG to combo after the Vjara.

The main assist for Strider in the team is the Cold Star. On the first page of this topic it’s written that “Ice Shots” is a good assist for him, so i figured out it is Cold Star.

Another feature of this team is that Ammy and Strider allow you to do a safe cross over attack. Strider can do it by using Formation C and Ammy can do it by using Power Slash. So you can chose witch character will be on point depending on the match up:
-Match up for Strider: I chose him when i mess with a flying match up like Trish, Doom, Magneto, etc. (He have the same task of Deadpool of my former team)
-Match up for Ammy: I choose her when I mess around with those cheap Hulk rushdown with sentinel assist. Her Devout Beads can easily break the armor of his Gamma charge and of his fierce punch. I planned to use her against Morrigan and Doom match up trying to reflect some projectiles, but some peaple said it doesnt work.
-Match up for X-23: All other characters from the cast.

Does this team work?

@Truzen Hilpom

Not it does not. You’re all over the place. If you’re starting Ammy, she has no neutral assist. Also, Vajra is his best assist. His other assists don’t seem to be worth it to be honest. Strider and Ammy have decent synergy, but only for a point Strider team. Something like Strider/Doom/Ammy. Though I feel that Strider to be successful on point needs either Triple Arrows or Disruptor.

If you want to play X-23 with Ammy. Try X-23 on point with Ammy has an anchor and a character that gives her a strong neutral assist 2nd. Someone like Strange/Doom/Dante/etc.

could someone help me out with some strider synergy stuff?

  1. What characters make the best use of Vajra?

  2. What are the best assists to back up Strider when hes on point / why?

I would really appreciate it

From all the playtesting I’ve done, these are those that have the best synergy with Strider.

Amazing synergy - Dante, Wesker, Viper, Deadpool, Vergil
Great synergy - Shehulk, Doom, Nova, Felicia, MODOK, RR, Chris
Decent synergy - Nemesis, Jill, Captain America, Zero, Strange, Dormammu, Ironfist, Frank

Everyone else doesn’t really use him well.

What are Strider’s best assists to back him up on point?

In my opinion from the playtesting I’ve done, he needs either Disruptor or Triple arrows. Reason’s behind this are that using either of the assists lets you activate a satellite within the combo to increase your damage. Not to mention the teleport mixups you get using them. St.H + call assist, teleport is a legit 50/50 that’s very hard to block. Not to mention it sets up another mixup upon block. Assists that also make Vajra H safe are recommended. Rapid Slash, Bolts, Arrows, etc, since they set up a high low 50/50 right after.

He also really benefits from assists that let him extend his combos even further. Missiles, Drones, Bolts, Cent Rush, Slant Shot, Rapid Slash, etc. Strider doesn’t build much meter so this is a requirement to allow you to DHC.

Besides that he needs something to deal damage. Infinites, raw tags, or strong DHC’s. Swords, Stalking Flare, Bionic Maneuvers, and Sougenmu are some examples.

Thanks a lot Marvelo.

What do you think of Strider backed by Weasel Shot? How about Ammy Cold Shots?

Both are very good for lockdown, which lets him easily mix you up. However, Strider’s scaling isn’t great.

Hey guys, the team that I’m using right now is Wesker (B)/ Dante (Y)/ Strider (Y). Am I better off using Dante in the long run? Or should I switch to Vergil/Doom?

Just hopped in to thank Marvelo and that 721 guy for all their posts, this is actually one of the better character sections.

Very hard to get into marvel at this point, so i’ve been scrubbing it out and theorizing trying to decide for a team lol

If you want to continue playing Wesker then Wesker/Dante/Strider is a better Wesker team. Dante/Strider is S+ tier. Dante/Strider has a longer learning curve than Doom/Vergil, but it’s up to you.

Thank you man, I appreciate it. I get bored at work and sometimes pass the time on the forums.

So, incidentally, it took until last night before I really gave Strider a shot. I’ve messed w/ Vajra a few times, but it was just never really what I wanted to be doing and never lasted longer than a day. But one of the 2 things I currently “want to be doing” is Morrigan, and last night gave serious consideration to Morri xxx Strider and xxx Morri Strider ideas. And obviously, they worked pretty well, since Doom, Dante, and Vergil all go pretty nicely with both.

So first and foremost, in the above list, did you forget Morrigan? or do you not feel that Vajra is one of her better assists? It seems like Missiles, Jam Session, and Vajra are widely regarded as her 3 best. But if you disagree, certainly I respect your opinion enough to hear why.

Now secondly, and this is the last thing I expected to be posting about in the Strider threads,

the OTHER thing I’ve been “wanting to be doing” lately is xxx Dorm Mag! And have been struggling to find a suitable point for it (and as we’ve chatted much about Nova, this is no offense to him, I just figure Disruptor isn’t really Nova’s beam of choice).

aside: Did I just apologize for possibly offending a Marvel character? /aside

As many people like to learn an anchor character by sticking them on point and seeing what they’re about, and all that fun stuff, do you think Strider Dorm Mag is a viable squad in general? Or just one of the better teams relative to other Strider point teams?

There are a lot of things I like about Strider as far as neutral tools (like air qcf+A and B for movement and trajectory changes), and if disruptor - teleport is **near **as good for Stridzy as it is for 'mammu, then this could be very pleasant for me. lol Worth a try it seems at least.

Now, I have to go and look up combos for him now (or at least A combo, Im literally at square one), but I was wondering, when you’re talking about using assist to cover a satelite summon, where in a combo does that happen and how? I’m not gonna ask you to type out a full BNB or anything, but since I’ll have disruptah at my disposal, and you’re talking about its uses, I figured asking, “how does that part work?” would be safe to do.

I also wrote down that frame trap from above. I just love all these great tactical tricks and ideas, I’d read 50 pages of it thrice if you were inclined to write it. lol Thanks for all of it!

EDIT: after messin around in training and rewatching some of that intoxicating Chou play from like 2 yrs ago (that I watched live at the time, hell yeah!), unless you know of some really sick stuff with dark hole, it just may make more sense to just run strider mag vergil. Safe confirmable ambiguous rapid slash into H vajra is just too hot. If strider dies, shockwave into an install and go nuts with disruptor vergil… much as I’m in romantic love with disruptah-dorm, that team would have to offer something truly stellar to choose it over the versil vergion.

Ah! Forgot Morrigan. Yeah Morrigan/Strider is pretty decent since he helps keep them where she wants them!

You want to call Magneto during f.H when you’re doing st.H, f+H+Call Mags, activate satellite, st.H, Gram L, shoot satellite, combo of your choice. Strider mags is very strong.

I run a Jill / RR / Strider team, why do you consider Jill to have decent synergy w/ Vajra? All I ever get is IGetToStandNextToYourBodyWhileYouGetUpInFeralStance.

Also, I’m the worst Strider player ever, I still don’t know what to do with him except frantically run around fishing for stray hits.

Jill struggles vs characters at superjump height. Strider helps nullify that. Also, he’s good at extending her combos.

What’s the optimized team for strider on point.
Damage wise for strider and overall as a team
