Oh yeah, how could I forget one of the best things when zoning with Vajra? Those well-timed Vajra calls force your opponent to sit back and take all that chip damage from Flares and Purifications. They can’t even teleport or super jump because that damn dive kick tracks them! And yeah, there are crossups using Vajra with Dorm but they don’t feel that good to me, especially if Vajra accidentally HKD’s your opponent (unless you’re going to Flame Carpet xx XFC). If you do have more tech about this duo (or about this team in general), please do tell. I haven’t explored much since I don’t have a console.
I’m still trying to figure out some tech since other than controlling space, it doesn’t help Dorm that much (unless you have powered up Liberations). I do agree Vajra teleport crossups are iffy with Dorm when compared to someone like Wesker. It seems like all you can do with Vajra is control space and sometimes that’s the most important thing if you want to create an obstacle course with Dorm. If HKD happens, just re-position yourself further away or put a Flame Carpet to prevent them from rolling forward towards you.
…I never thought about getting further away when I get a HKD from Vajra. I always went near, put an OTG Flame Carpet then resume neutral. With my opponent right in front of me. Ugh. I thank you for enlightening me.
No problem! I was thinking of replacing Dorm with Wesker instead. Wesker/Doom/Strider is surprisingly not played a lot. I’m placing Dorm with Dante/Akuma to make the “Great Wall of Dormammu”.
If I may ask for a bit of advice(I’m still trying to be good at this game). I’ve used Strider as Anchor on my Spider-man team for a while but am considering putting him second. If I am to play with this what would be a good choice for anchor. My first thought was Virgil, but since I has a slight aversion(though I’m not entirely against it) to playing characters I constantly see if I can avoid it so I was wondering what options I might have before resorting to the madness that is the azure clad son of Sparta. Thanks in advance to anyone willing to throw a few tips my way.
Perhaps Magneto? Who’s your second character by the way in-between Spider-Man and Strider?
At the moment, Iron Man. Not the best Synergy choice I know… But for some reason I felt comfortable using him… Plus repulser blast is pretty freakin’ amazing. I can’t claim to be great at this whole fighting game thing, but I’m trying… Of course being the fanboy I am if a character I feel attached to or at least like I’d prefer use them if they fit my team and playstyle(Strider is the only one who has broken that rule because he’s kinda freakin’ awesome). But I don’t think Stark would be the best Anchor in the world for some reason… Mind you I already said I’m not great at this and I could very well be wrong about that.
For strider he likes assists like Mag beam, Cold Star, Sent drones, Dante Jam session. Anything resembling those could work. Try to avoid high hit count assists. Other than that play what appeals to you.
So any assist that offers lock-down and some form of horizontal control. This works will with how I play Pete. Cool, thank you so much for your advice.
Iron Man isn’t that great as an anchor. He’s usually strongest at the 2nd position. And yeah, try Strider out with Ammy.
That’s what I thought, and lucky for me I adore Okami and have been interested in fitting white wolf into some team I use. Thanks for your input. I appreciate.
I’m trying to make a team in which point Hiryu uses his two assists to put his reset potential to the maximum. So far, I’m looking at Hiryu/EMD/Drones but learning Magneto is such a pain in the ass so I’m trying to find another assist. Any other suggestions?
Strider gets a lot out of mag beam. Beyond obvious teleport/assist punish stuff look up Aztec Odyssey’s raw tag combos video. May give you some ideas.
For resets? Nothing beats drones, dog is a clear second. Beam also is very good for knockdown teleport tricks. Doom rocks/missiles have some interesting reset potential as well though with a high hit count.
Fun: I came across a pretty gimmicky Vergil reset I’m playing with right now. LM call vergil H f.H summon dog, vergil hits, summon bird. vergil carries them full screen, they bounce on the dog and air recover. The bird will always connect out of combo, so you can teleport for a mixup.
You can also throw the zoo at them, call your assist and wave dash in for pretty ambiguous stuff.
You could also just teleport kick after the summon dog to continue the combo but where’s the fun in that?
Yeah I know Hiryu gets a lot out of EMD and the Mags/Sent shell is too godlike but Mags is too complicated for me. I do realize that learning him will up my game to an extent so I’ll give him a try.
And really, Mags can combo out of Gram H raw tag? I GOTTA SEE THIS. You have the link for this video? I can’t seem to find it on YT.
Aztec’s strider raw tag stuff.

Regarding mags, he’s actually not too bad. I’ve been learning him recently. As long as I stick to baby combos I can play and learn how to get hits. I get a lot of mileage out of tridash H for overhead/throw, sj tridash j.L/c.L ambiguous high low. I also play missiles and zone with magnetic blasts a lot. Honestly the practice that gave me the most payoff was magblasts. learning when to use it and when not. spacing so I dont get dashed under and punished on my fall. Dashing forward and getting it come come out reliably to cover me.
I’m searching everwhere cuz I know its there butbI cant fInd It lol but I’ll ask anyway. Doom + Strider. Can somebody layout how I should be playing these two together? How should I rush down? How should I zone? All help would be appreciated greatly
Doom with strider is good but not like dog is. Strider mainly keeps people honest by taking away air options.
Strider with Doom is very good. almost every assist is useful to strider for some thing.
Someone recommended this team to me, but I’m not really seeing it as a great combination. I’m curious what Strider players think:
Morrigan (Dark Harmonizer) / Dormammu (Dark Hole) / Strider (Vajra)
Team order could potentially be changed.
I’ve seen a Japanese player have a team like Morrigan/Wesker/Hiryu and it really works for him because Hiryu keeps his opponents on the ground where he can easily throw Soul Fists all over the screen. I think his name’s Jeo? You could watch vids for Morrigan/Hiryu synergy there.
For Dorm/Hiryu, Vajra as you said in the Dorm forums doesn’t do much for him aside from keeping your opponents grounded and IMO I don’t think Dorm like his opponents being grounded. Maybe I’m playing Dorm wrong but I like my opponents up in the air when I zone with him where they can’t do Bionic Arm derp.
Maybe Morrigan/Hiryu/Dorm? Or, Hiryu/whatevercombinationofMorriDormyouwant?
Might as a well switch out strider for hidden missiles. That is probably the best assist for morrigan and dorm. Good for zoning, combo extension, and godlike TAC combos.
Vajra will do none of those but help only help with the zoning. You won’t get any good combo extensions, his DHC suck, and his TAC combos suck. The only upper hand that strider has over doom is that he is a better anchor.
Also you have a team of 3 meter intensive characters. Morrigan wants meter, Dorm wants meter, and Strider wants meter. Doom doesn’t really care about meter that as much.
