I believe TFGM brought that TV for the girls to play puzzle league. Now, they were playing on one of my TVs in the beginning, but that was before the CVS2 tournament started so it was fine. TFGM kindly moved Puzzle League to his smaller TV which we couldn’t use for the tournament.
Now as for TVs not being used during the tournament… I can understand how that looks bad, but 99% of the time we can’t do anything about it. You know why? BECAUSE SOMETIMES IT’S JUST TOO FUCKING HARD TO FIND PEOPLE! …but this is normal and expected, especially with a tournament this large in size. People are either in the eating, talking outside with their friends, shitting, playing another game, not paying attention to the person on the mic calling their name, just plain deaf, ignoring the person on the mic calling them so they can watch Justin or a friend play, or (my favorite) actually READY to play but they need to borrow someone’s stick/converter or someone has their stick/converter and they have to wait to get it back…
…and yes, that’s only half the fun of running the brackets. :encore:
Jive, sounds good, but implementing ideas generally is a pain in the ass. Much as I’d like to see things run smooth and new stuff introduced (swiss pairs, stuff along the lines of what Jive posted) it’s just hard to get new stuff introduced to the masses.
I guess ‘shout outs’ are in order.

Of course to the rest of the VCU staff in no particular order: Robin, Billy, Tope, Jacob, Andrew, and everyone else who helped.
Special Thanks go to Rebecca (Moose’s Girlfriend) for letting us use her VW Golf at 2 in the morning to move the plasma screens. Those things are pretty, but they’re a pain in the ass. I vote we just get projectors or more TVs next year. Those things don’t weigh much, but carrying them up stairs after being up for 16+ hours is tiring.
The Commons Staff that helped us clean up. They were good sports about hanging around till the wee hours and making sure all the TVs/Trash/etc was picked up. I doubt any of them post here, but they were a big help.
All the guys that helped out with running tournies. You guys were amazing at keeping shit in line. I don’t think we would have been able to finish much of anything if you guys hadn’t stepped up.
Now on to games:
Lucious: I watch you play K in awe. Moose says we have similar K playstyles, but I don’t see it. Your Geese is top tier.
Pat van Pelt: I dunno what happened that one round with my R2 Mai and your R1 Eagle, but that’s the only thing that won me that match. I dunno why you switched your R2 Blanka for R2 Sagat, Blanka does WAY better against Mai than Sagat does. You still won either way, but at least I got to play a match I’m comfortable with (Mai vs Sagat).
I’m sad, I didn’t get to play B.More Chun, Rugal B, anyone from New York, Kafuin from NC, and I don’t think I had but one match with the Nova kids in 3S (I think it was B1gAzn on the plasma right before HF, but I’m not sure).
I got stomped in HF. I found out why the next day when Robin told me to get the ‘true’ ST versions of characters you had to hold start when you picked them. I was wondering why I wasn’t hitting the stored Ochio vs Bison; I just thought I was messing up really bad.
Joe O: Lets get some live on sometime. Invite me whenever, whereever. I’m sad we didn’t get to play.
Nova Guys: B1g, n-ken, the whole lot of you: We really should have grabbed some matches together. I guess in the long run it doesn’t matter because I should be moving to Springfield shortly. Apartment hunting is a bitch.

I don’t know if he posted anything about it, but Robin’s backpack went missing. It had his Gamecube and about 5 games, a couple of which weren’t even Robin’s. Kevin’s Camcorder got jacked, Tope’s wavebird and ps2 -> dc converter, Moose’s ps2 -> dc converter, and alot of other random stuff.
We did find a black wool jacket laying on a table after everyone left. In the pockets were some cheap unsharpened throwing knives. If this is yours send either Robin or myself a PM and we’ll try and arrange to get it to you.

That about sums it up. It’s been awhile since I’d been to any tournaments, or even really played any fighters. Seeing old faces and playing in the (albeit, somewhat disorganized) tournament atmosphere helped rekindle some of the fire.
Dan: Fantastic finals man, you’ve really got a handle on Potemkin/Bridget.
Good games to everybody all around. Always good meeting new people, and seeing familiar faces. Shout outs to all of the old GT crew, glad you guys are still going strong.
Some suggestions for next time:
Online registration. It’ll help with signups, as long as people do it. Give some incentive for signing up online like proper seeding and bracketing. If you ever need help with setting something like that up, let me know.
Specific areas for games. This has already been mentioned, but #R didn’t even have a casual play area set up until 6pm or so. I don’t think AE ever did, except for maybe 20 minutes before the tournament started. That’s a long time to sit around without anything to really play.
Bigger trash cans. There was junk strewn all over the place, and the trash cans were overflowing. Not sure if that’s something that you all can do anything about, but it’d help.
Excellent work by Robin and the rest of the VCU crew for getting this together, and thanks to everybody who helped make it happen. The facility was really nice, although I was a bit bummed about the parking deck. I wanted to park in there but all of the gates were closed.

About halfway through the day Jacob and I were noticing this problem. I believe Jacob went and request bigger cans/bags and no one listened to him. Someone ganked a bigger can from another room. It was all cleaned up when the Commons night crew came in with bags, I think Jacob and Andrew did most of the trash-picking-up.
I wish I could’ve gone but it was pay day.
Would it be possible next time to have some spare sticks along wit BYO?
