So that’s why VA players won 6 of the 10 tourneys… including the biggest ones there.
riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight…
ok… you can shut up now.
Where is the love in this thread lol?
I can’t believe after all this time VA and MD are still fighting…comedy.
Fuk yea, I owned and shiet!

Kikin: You weren’t even there! So stfu! >.<
Fun tournament. Thanks for hosting it Robin. Props to everyone who helped out in one form or another. Could have been anything from running a bracket to bringing a TV. Whatever you did, thanks.
Tekken 5 was mad fun with good comp all around. Shame I couldn’t play in SC2 or Fighting Jam. Too late for SC2 and Fighting Jam never happened unfortuntly. Nothing you can do about it though.
Props to Lucious and Moose in CvS2. You guys do not deserve to have single round matches. They are to fun and exciting for that. Wow I can’t belive I said fun and exciting when talking about CvS2. I must be sick.
Great talking to Koop again. I forgot just how funny you was. Once you get the place finished up NC will have to try and make a trip up.
Shamy that was me outside. Ya it was good talks. I fucking hate Illinois. GAWD why did they win.
It was good seeing Fayetteville again as usual. Jive Turkey quit beasting in that TMNT Tournament Fighter. You know you and your character are to broke. Also why are you such a pimp lol. James good match in T5. Maybe next time we can play at 3 out of 5 rounds. Congrats on getting top 10 in CvS2 as well. Eddie H good job man. You keep getting better and better. Tooty (not sure on the spelling, sorry man) sucks how you lost in CvS2.
I know Faye doesn’t like console tourney’s. Hopefully you can get better adjusted for console for the next time. Jive you probably need to get like a snack table or something so you can place the stick on it. James D. you need to just use your stick more lol. I myself hate console tourney’s but what can ya do. if that’s what is being played than you have to play on that.
On to my hommies in Durham. Endris, Lucious, Rob, & Roski you will do better in T5 next time. I assure you of that. So will Chad and myself as well. No worries though. Lucious good job holding it down in CvS2. 5th place is damn good. You could have went further to. Oh well though I guess. Rob good shit in 3rd man. Roski you are way to good. You always seem to fluctuate between tournaments. You won the last one so this is your bad one. That just means you will win the next one man.
Tenk it was great seeing you again man. Been so long but it was great seeing you again. Boo to you picking Magneto instead of Spiral. Next time you talk to BLT let him know I said what’s up. OH ya I just realized that I forgot to give you the case of Cheerwine. There is always next time hopefully.
Sorry to the folks there playing Naruto 3; that I didn’t get to own you guys up. Just to much other stuff going on ya know. The guy who was running Smash told me there was one other decent Naruto player there. I would have liked to play you. Come to animazement this year. http://www.animazement.com There should be some really good comp there in Naruto 3. Well actually in all the games really.
PSP is an awesome road tool. All I gotta say about that. Couldn’t belive we were there already.
I know there are some people who I missed or people who I would have liked to talked to but never got the chance to. Sorry for that folks.
I’m not sure when animazement is this year, but I remember Anime Mid Atlantic was the exact same weekend last year. AMA is held in Richmond, AZ is in Durham… so we can drive 5 minutes and go to a con, or drive 4 hours and go to a con.
If they’re not, I’ll see if Andrew wants to go beast on you guys in Naruto. He’s crazy good. But he can’t stand up to the broken tier that is my Chouji.
Chouji > All. Being fat is where it’s at.
lol ya Chouji is hella nice. Good and fun.
I can understand entirely about going to your own instead of ours. I didn’t know that yours was being held that weekend though. Otherwise I probably would not have even presented the idea.
Well I know AZ is being held May 27th - 29th.
I think AMA is in June this year. Last year both were in April, I think. Or something like that. We’ll let you know if we’re heading down either way.
Hey pete, I didn’t get the money match with you. I bet you forgot on purpose because you knew your low tier just couldnt handle it . Next time make it your low tier vs. any of mine for 10$.
Awesome tourney, good job Robin for running this. I had a really great time at this place. I will definitely come back here next time you guys run another one.
Robin, Moose, anybody… happen to know the name of the paper those reporters represented? Can anybody get a copy of the paper, I would like to see the interviews.
Jive Out!
damn where to start.
first off let me start by saying thanks to all the richmond people who are trying to keep the scene alive. and to all those who helped run the tourny.
Koop, good match we had and yes i do not like your athena especially against a chang who cant even keep up with her running around. it was tough just getting in those hits i got in. and i know you hate rc blanka. i had to make a tough comeback after what athena did to my first two characters. but it was a good match and cant wait for more.
Excrement, good shit in poker. you got lucky everytime you won except for the last hand which i got wreckless. and you finally learned how to bet after a while. you can learn a lot from playing a person who knows what he is doing. o and i still own you in 3s. until you get that win over me VA will always be over you. and it was kinda funny how people thougt you were the yun player when you were the ken. scrub.
Dave, i owe you. thats it. i owe you.
Moose, so um what place did you and Dave get in cvs2. im pretty sure you didnt place higher than me. especially with all that shit talking you were doing. i know i got 5th and i know you were lower than me. just let me know who backed up their talk. dont talk anymore unless it is positive or about how good i am.
Denny’s at 3 am was kind of reservoir dogs. with joe o not being the one who tips. that shit was too funny. good stories and just a good time. need more like it.
Pat P, yeah i dont know y i switched. i did that earlier out of no where. its just a reaction thing cause i used to put sagat as my ratio 2.
Overall i think i did well in cvs2, considering i have no competition up here in nova. 3s i kinda bumed out to a chun player and an oro. i have never played an oro. that kinda sucked for me. i have no idea how i did in tekken. but playing on a plasma wasnt too fun. there was lag and i dont like. next tourny no more plasma tv’s
shout out to all the others i forgot. you know who you are.
just some ideas for next time.
dont do the mixed pot bs. make it every tourny has its own seperate pot.
no laggy tvs or projectors.
people who help out need to get more in return. like david fuckin fenell.
start shit on time.
to the people who stole shit. FUCK YOU and FUCK OFF
Oh and I am the BEST IN VA. and NOVA is above NC, MD, Richmond. bet it kids
Did Rockman own you in cvs2 and 3s during tourney?
is this true? you beat me one match in a tourney that was advertised as like more rounds than round robin. im pretty sure id’ve scraped you afterwards, so we can 3/5 for $20 or something if you want.
I was at the tournament and saw a nervous kid with a notepad and an ID card on his belt. Right away I knew it was the newspaper intern who had been sent out to dig up some news on a slow weekend. Being a student of journalism myself with a few internships at the Baltimore Sun under my belt, I thought I’d introduce myself to this enterprising young reporter. I chatted with him and suggested he interview Jwong, which he did after I pointed him out. I also said he might talk to some girl gamers to find out what they were doing in what’s usually an all-male hobby.
He talked to Jwong for like 20 minutes at least. Below’s the story that was printed in the Richmond Times-Dispatch, but it’s plain to me a lot of his stuff was cut, as happens to copy written by interns.

VCU tourney features hand-to-hand combat among video gamers
BY SAMUEL SPIES
TIMES-DISPATCH STAFF WRITER Mar 27, 2005
It was March Madness of a different sort yesterday at Virginia Commonwealth University.
About 200 gamers hacked, slashed and leapt their way through the Virginia Mid-Atlantic Video Game Championships in the VCU Student Commons.
Gamers both hardcore and casual huddled around 20 consoles and televisions in the darkened, windowless room. The rapt competitors’ fingers danced over their controllers as images and colors collided on a giant projection screen. Spectators cheered and gasped as digital gladiators were crushed, impaled and thrown from heights.
The championships featured tournaments in 11 games, including the first-person shooter “Halo 2” and football simulator “Madden 2005.” The other nine games were fighting games, the most popular genre for competition play. Gamers paid a $5 registration fee and a $10 fee for each individual tourney.
Paverick Nicolas and Kevin Ahn - together “Team Gabriel Cash” - moved steadily up the tournament bracket in the “Super Smash Brothers Melee” team doubles event.
They drew a first-round bye and then won their second-round bout in the fighting game that features Nintendo characters. Neither of the VCU students expected to win the tourney, citing stiff competition.
“We just watch out for dudes in trench coats and ponytails, because they’re the ones who spend long hours in the basement preparing to kick our [butts],” said Ahn.
Competitive gamers often spend serious amounts of time practicing. That is because there is serious money to be made in the world of video game championships. The first-place prize in the “Tekken 5” competition yesterday was expected to reach $300, said Robin Palm, tournament organizer and VCU Video Game Club president.
Justin Wong, the four-time national champion of “Marvel vs. Capcom II,” said he makes $10,000 to $15,000 a year playing in tournaments.
The 19-year old graphic arts student drove from his home in New York to compete in six tournament events, including “Tekken 5” and “Street Fighter III: Third Strike.”
“I expect to win most of them,” Wong said.
Though Wong is renowned for his prowess at “Marvel vs. Capcom II,” he said he is developing his skills at other games in order to win more money at tournaments. When he started competing at age 14 he spent every waking hour practicing, he said. These days he limits his practice time to one hour every evening at the Chinatown Arcade.
Video game championships have long been the domain of young men such as Wong, and the crowd at yesterday’s event reflected the typical demographic. But as video games gain popularity among women, more and more are competing in tournament events.
Jodi Russell is one of them. “I love fighting games,” she said. A piano performance major at VCU, Russell has been practicing tae kwon do and other martial arts for seven years.
“A lot of games are accurate with the moves,” she said. Russell was planning to enter the “Soul Calibur II” tourney, but described herself as a comparative newcomer to the tournament scene.
While waiting for the “Tekken 5” tourney to begin, veteran tournament gamer Mike Haller spent some time with an old favorite, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters,” published in 1993.
“I’m reliving my youth,” he said.
Haller is 24.

Forgot on purpose?
You should’ve said something, homeboy… I did forget, but not on purpose.
Oh, wow, I forgot to add this!!
Some dude walked up to me while I was on the phone with Crystal, and he asked me…
“Are you Justin Wong’s brother?”
I said, “No.”
Then he said, “Oh, did you come with him?”
I said, “Nope.”
I wouldn’t want to be Justin’s brother… he might try something with my sister.
Damn, this Vicodin is ill!! :wow:
