$21,000 MK9 Tourney - Las Vegas, NV - May 14th-15th - 10K first place

Ya, one thing I gotta say, Justin and a lot of the SF players, they just play and they know the rules and don’t complain about formats. If PDP wanted to throw a SF tourney on a DDR pad for 100K to 1st place, you think people are going to complain? They’re going to play a lot of DDR pad SF, that’s for sure…

If it were on a DDR pad the only Competition I would have from the SF world is Flash Metroid lol. OUr DDR roots go way back.

Im in there.

The FAQ says:

“You are only allowed to eat and drink what is provided in the ballroom. All outside food and drinks must be eaten outside of the ballroom.”

Does anyone know if there will be a bar available in the ballroom? I was assuming since this tournament was at a casino you’d be able to have a few drinks, does anyone know what their policy is?

I’m sure there is alcohol allowed at a bar, but not in a ballroom. No different than EVO.

Goofyhand do you have information about what sort of display’s will be used for the tournament? I have recently played on a friend LCD tv after playing primarily on my CRT and there is a noticeable input lag on the LCD display.

…10 STACKS…shheeessshhhh makes u wana drop everything 4 mk9

I’m sure that they’re not going to run the entire tournament on laggy LCDs.

They’ll be Dell Monitors from what I understand, but LCDs (older ones) are the problem, not so much with the new stuff

lol I’m glad i read this thread, I was one click away from booking my flight for this…

I’m not gonna blow 150$ just to get a stick that isnt usable with any other game thanks to its retarded layout. hell my flight isnt gonna cost as much as that -__-"
Good luck to the people running this and everyone participating.

Edit: Nvm just found one on Ebay for 90$ 0.o Guess i am going lol
I still dont agree with this though >__<

I’ve recently played the game on CRT, LCD, and LCD in game mode, and the game plays completely different on all three (fastest and smoothest by far on CRT). It would be nice to get a definitive answer from the TO on what sort of monitors they are using so we can prepare ourselves properly.

I am not playing MK yet (despite the fact that at age 7-8, MK was my first fighting game, and I was actually a local legend and won my city’s only MK tournament with a $50 prize and what is to this day by far the largest trophy I have ever won for anything hahaha) and have no plans to attend the tournament, but I am going to throw in my NSHO…

I am pretty much on board with the stick thing. I understand that people want to play on their own sticks that they are used to, and people aren’t accustomed to being forced to play with a certain stick… after all, our sticks are precious to us, like musical instruments are to their players, extensions of ourselves… BUT, as many others have said - it’s a freaking $21,000 guaranteed pot. I’m sure the stick is at least decent, and it IS what MK was designed to be played on. The guy who designed it says it’s arcade quality. Everyone thought MadCatz was destined to bomb with the SF sticks, and they came up with nothing short of what has proven and will prove to be the community standard, a godsend, really, for years to come. So, give it a try.

If you are seriously FLYING to Las Vegas and getting a hotel room to play in a tournament with TWENTY-ONE THOUSAND dollars in guaranteed prize money, I would have to question your sense of logic if you are truly repulsed by the idea of finding, purchasing, and practicing on the PDP stick.

Finally, I actually think it’s a great marketing strategy. Despite the massive amount of MK hype on SRK and on the streams, I had no earthly idea that anyone was making a Mortal Kombat stick. If I do pick up the game, which I very well might, I will certainly look into the stick, which I would not have done if I hadn’t clicked on this thread (and I wouldn’t have clicked on this thread if I hadn’t heard about an official MK tournament with an absurd guaranteed pot so big that Justin is dropping everything to practice up for it… a lot of good decisions here). Also, assuming that the stick is somewhere between decent and outstanding in quality, it really does impress me that NetherRealm(s?) and the MK producers etc. are doing everything they can to make sure that MK has every chance to be a serious, competitive game.

$21k in prize money, a new game that most everyone seems to be enjoying, and Team Spooky streaming the shindig to boot… What more could you want from an event?

These are the monitors that we will be using: LG brand, model 26LC7DC, 26" LCD integrated HDTV with SRS TruSurround XT and HDMI Out.

Thanks for the info. Can you say if entrants will have an opportunity to practice on the official game setups before the tournament begins? I don’t mean to nitpick but there is an enormous difference in play depending on the actual display speed of the monitors used.

Either way I look forward to buying you a beer in Vegas!

dang I wish this was in SF just like the SF4 national tourney a couple of years back… anyone knows cheap flights from SFO/OAK to Vegas? cheapest I can find is $300

These confirmed lagless? Not necessarily asking goofyhand. Anyone who knows feel free to answer.

I’ll be there to support the event with Potatohead, Markman, and Nate!

Praktice up Kids!

I think the website said brackets would be available today?

I don’t see them yet though.

First time I will see the monitors or know anything about them will be Friday.

People in Pools 1-4 will be able to get about 2 hours of practice on Saturday, Pools 5-8 would have more practice on the monitors. Pools should be announced by tomorrow.

And just so everyone knows ,there are around 180+ entrants and there are a lot of NV/CA players so you’re going to have to fight people in your pools from these areas no matter what, so be prepared…

I should have asked this a little earlier, but spectators can get in free right?

Since there’s no mention of a venue fee I assume this is the case.
