I’m sure there will be some casuals before the tournament.
Gamers may be broke but they always have more than one stick it seems these days and this is a pretty good investment if you think you have a chance at the top 8 since it’s a big payday.
DrDogg: I don’t know where the PDP MK9 stick will be, I am just doing running the tournament stuff, I know as much as everyone else does, the stick comes out April 19 and there were a lot of pre-orders for it. I am sure more will be available as the Mad Catz stick had the same thing happen to it for the first couple of weeks. Tournament is strictly 360, though. You could pre-order this at Wal Mart as recently as a week and a half ago I believe.
Matty: I feel ya, if PDP wasn’t spending an ungodly amount of money on this event (you should see what setup costs and getting everyone over there is costing) I would be there with ya; I can’t afford tickets to Vegas almost ever (Nashville to Vegas and hotel costs are always expensive for some reason) and I own a business and have 2-3 jobs, LOL
This is fairly important information. Can you ask someone at PDP?
Wal-Mart has the 360 TE available, but not the PS3 version. PDP has also stated that only the 360 version will be available outside of the TE bundle. I’m sure I’m not the only person who will be getting the game on PS3. The availability of the PS3 stick is a concern right now.
Also wish I could make it to this. Good luck on your tournament GoofyhanD. As a TO, I think it’s a smart marketing idea. As a gamer, I’m really excited for the opportunity this provides for MK gamers across the nation. I would like more events like this to happen in the near future (preferably closer to me haha).
? Just wondering, what does this have to do with the tournament, though?
Tournament is 360 only.
PS3 stick they probably have an issue with the amount made on first few weeks already being sold out on pre-orders from the various companies. I’m not the right contact for something like that, it has to go directly to customer service/operations and I know that none of the guys handling product management stuff would have an answer for you, best answer to your question is on the regular Performance Designed Products Accessories and Controllers for Wii, DS, XBox 360 and PS3 website.
I didn’t even know there was a new Tron controller for 360 that was limited to 350 (Icy Blue) until I subscribed on the site and I HAVE a PDP email address, LOL
The tournament may be 360 only, but I assume the game and sticks are identical on both consoles (aside from the console exclusives in the game), so the console choice of the tournament shouldn’t matter in this case. I planned on getting the PS3 version long before this tournament was even brought up, and I’m sure many others will be getting the PS3 version as well (last I heard it had far more pre-orders than the 360 version).
Obviously, if someone wants to do well in this tournament, they should be practicing on the PDP stick. You said everyone would have time to practice on the stick since the tournament is ~3 weeks after the stick becomes available. However, since the PS3 TE is pretty much sold out everywhere and PDP isn’t selling the PS3 stick separately, people who want the PS3 version of the game and didn’t pre-order the TE when it was available have no way to practice on the stick.
I would think that half the user base of the game not having direct access to the stick is fairly relevant to the tournament. But, if PDP is making the PS3 version available separately (like they are with the 360 version) then it’s all good. That’s why I asked about it.
Well, I am not the person to ask about availability of 360 sticks vs PS3 sticks but it’s a 360 tournament, therefore the game should be practiced on 360 with the stick on 360. I don’t suggest practicing on PS3 for a 360 tournament. There can be many problems with that (see any SSF4 tourney or people not used to frames dropping in combos on PS3 for MVC3) as fighting games are known to have timing differences or input lag or other stuff.
My first MK game was Deception. I play on pad period. This tourney is on a pdp stick only. Its a shit ton of money. The rules have been posted for everyone to see. I mean, I only ever play with pad. I NEVER used the original layout for anything ever.
I think I’ll have to just deal with it and take a shot at that money.
When can we expect more tournament details? Right now I don’t see any mention if the tournament will be in the 2v2 tag format or the 1v1 style (although the some of the sample rules sound like they are meant for 1v1). Since MK9 is only 1 day away and the tournament is soon after, letting us know which style is played is VERY IMPORTANT in regards to practicing and training.
Also, can we get more exact times on tournament start/finish?
SF Punker - Yes, you can change your button configuration…but I don’t see why you would.
Big_marcus86 - This will be a 1v1 tournament. I wish that I can give you more details on the time but that is still dependent on the amount of entries. Just so long as you are there by 9AM on Saturday, you’ll be alright. I cannot see this tourney going any longer than 6PM on Sunday but don’t quote me. I will be sure to update you with the details as they come.
Tim Static - No, tournament set ups will be basically like EVO. 22 in. ASUS on a table and 2 sticks. We will have a few of those PAX cabs on the floor which will most likely be used for marquee and semi-final match ups.
