Akuma? What??? If you are playing Akuma on point you are definetly 100% playing the character wrong. Haggar is nowhere near ideal or optimal of a character on point either.
IMO top 6 point characters in no order with optimized teams behind them:
Wolverine, Magneto, Morrigan, Viper, Zero, Vergil
Modok isn’t the only one who gets out of the start of the round gambit for free. ChunLi and Viewtiful Joe do too, but V.Joe can turn it into a very safe start of the round 50/50 with Red Hot Kicks + assist.
point haggar has a lot of merits. he gets his very easy and damaging 2 assist extenders combos, has a big life pool, has best start of round vs. wolverine, spencer, magneto and a lot of other characters, has assists to help shore up some of his worst matchups (usually still disadvantaged but one hit and he’ll kill em)
he can’t DHC in very well but he can DHC out extremely well, and once he is there he can put in work as an assist
Probably because Dormammu has nothing to capitalize off Vajra with. That and Dormammu wants meter more than Strider, so when Dorm dies you don’t even have the means to make an Ouroboros comeback.
Best walk speed in the game alone is enough to make him one of the best on point. Morrigan and Wolverine have some of the fastest walk speeds also which makes them start for round start also.
Yes, lets ask one of the most naturally talented fighting game players ever who is capable of almost beating great players with random teams of ruby heart and such what he thinks of team comp.
Magneto/Dormammu/Doom is arguably optimized for Dormammu, but neither of the two other characters. Very rarely is a team fully optimized for all 3 characters.
It works, but its not dorms best assist by a long mile.
Vajra doesnt cover him as good as other assists but every time Vajra comes out sucessfully, dorm gets a slight momentum shift and/or breathing room for spells, rushdown or to reposition yourself.
Once you’re in control, the assist is great for locking down the opponent. Like all tracking teleport characters, dorm gets a 50/50 mixup from anywhere on the screen with vajra.
My team is Dorm/Wesker/Strider and I usually start Dorm first since both dorm and strider are meter hogs. strider, less so but its nice to have ouroboros/ragnorak stocked and x-factor in case something goes wrong.
For several reasons, for real life application see Chris G’s Akuma put in work, but for other reasons Akuma is a much bigger threat with assists behind him. His walk speed is crazy and his damage output is sexy enough to murk most other point characters without breaking a sweat.
Viewtiful Joe I believe is good, really good. I just don’t like his damage output. There’s also some really ambigious overhead shit most MODOKS don’t do involving his “new” movement after a blocked attacks. Also if you want to COMPLETELY avoid the beginning gambit viewtiful CANNOT get as high as MODOK.
Haggar in other news is a beast, but imo he needs 2 assists to keep his opponent on his toes. Also early on in the match the fucker might live through an unoptimized combo giving him a chance to DHC out and be viable threat as an assist. Point Haggar is not to be underestimated imo. His primary strength is against rush down teams granted.
