I’ve done better with both doom and dante in my team in tournament then I have with zero and viper, therefore they are better.
Disclaimer: I’ve never played viper or zero in tournament.

The reason I think Zero is so good is because I’ve watched Sam play. There are results to back it up he just doesn’t go out much~~~~~~ deny till you die with mihe all you want until you play him.

There needs to be a theory tier list, and a tournament tier list. Characters like Wolverine, Wesker, Doom, Vergil will always be better in that environment than technical characters like Zero, Viper, Dante, Morrigan, etc

I must be new here, but when you guys say “No one is playing Viper to her maximum potential” what exactly do you mean? What are all the things a viper should show in a match (assuming optimal team construction) for you to consider that player to have a fully realized Viper?
As a marvel scrub who enjoys watching the game but doesn´t play it that much, how is doom not considered straight and without doubt the best character in the game? He has the best assist in the game (just put doom in your team and it works, doesn´t matter) , he can zone well, he has insane combo/infinite potential with TACs, he has good sinergy with many characters(ammy thc) and good (and damaging) dhcs with most of the cast. His level 3 xfactor seems to be awesome if he kills one character in the corner, his meter building is insane and he has derpfactor with footdive.
As i said I don´t know shit about this game but he was played in how many teams? Like 85%? If we look at the big picture and on point/assist/tools/etc isn´t just doom the #1 in the game?
- Holding a button down at all times for Optic Laser charge, charge buffering for Seismo xx Laser with jump cancels
- Rapid Seismos
- FADCs with Seismos
- Staircase loops, both for added damage and SJ height conversions (which are quite difficult to do midscreen)
- BK feints in the air for added mobility in conjunction with double jumps/airdashes
- TK feints + assist in blockstrings for pressure
- Unblockable setups
- Plink dashing
- Viper Ball
- EX Seismo (must be mentioned)
Basically, you’d need to be a robot with 5 hands or an octopus to play Viper at the absolute highest level.
Optimal Viper teams would have some permutation of Dante, Strider, Doom, Ammy, Vergil, or Strange.
It depends on how you define “best” character, because Doom does have a lot of bad matchups and when you see a Doom player having to fight Magneto, Dorm, Hawkeye, Nova or Morrigan you know he’s in big trouble. But he’s a great character to have in any team so he’s probably not #1 in sheer brokenness but he’s definitely #1 in support value.
FADC, FFF combos, abusing H TK

FFF is kinda pointless tbh. Looks dope as fuck though. I’ve only pulled it off like twice.
Doom isn’t #1 because there are retardedly designed characters in this game that offer more than he does. For instance, Vergil. Vergil has THE best normals in the game, even better than Zero. His S is a huge sword normal that destroys projectiles, anti airs, hits behind slightly and can easily be made safe on block. He also has helm breaker, which is super fast, safe on block, very large and hits behind because Capcom is stupid. Vergil also has a TELEPORT, leading to easy mixups and resets for 0 effort. You don’t have to chase your opponent around the screen. One QCB and you’re already in. Even if they do block, you can put them into a very long and SAFE mixup string. All this, and I haven’t even mentioned Spiral Swords yet.
tl;dr Doom is fair compared to retarded characters like Vergil. What were they thinking?
But he isn’t that good of a point character, and people use him more as an assist. He has many bad matchups, and he isn’t actually a anchor that people are alright scared about.
Whereas Morrigan, Wolverine, Vergil has gotten people to rage quit in full out angry due to how stupid their tools are. This game is very complex the most versatile character isn’t better than the most effective character. I don’t believe that Doom is more effective than Wolverine is right now.
Vergils normals are stupid but he doesn’t have the best normals in the game, especially considering you can’t whiff cancel them ( I used to not think that was a big deal until I realized I whiff a lot of normals to bait people, plus the whole thing with pushblocking and making you whiff normals at some point since you cant read every pushblock perfectly ). I think Zero/Task/Mags/Morrigan have the best set of normals.
Agreed on Task. Magneto also has sword normals for a character who doesn’t even use one, and are superb for everything that he does, which is mostly air-based rushdown.
