2013 SSF4 A.E. Zangief Change list

Yeah, I bet they’re going to nerf st.mp, take away far sweep but make up for it by letting Gief put on a party hat when he does Running Bear Grab.

Can anyone enlighten me, is Hugo being in this game. a buff or nerf for Gief? LOL

If he’s anything like he is in SFxT he will be garbage. Votrex characters will have a field day with his stupid huge hitbox and his beyond slow normals will make him the textbook definition of FA bait. Even his oki will be just mediocre because his SPD has disgustingly bad range and DP, FADC effectively means he has to take huge risks to get damage. Like Gief, backdash and upback will be strong against him. He has EX backbreaker but he’ll need that for AA because it’s all he has.

Just my 2 cents if they do a fairly straight port from SFxT. I trust they won’t do that though, and will rebalance him for SF4. Regardless, I don’t think it affects Gief too much. He was the better char in SFxT and will probably be in USF4. Only way I see Hugo even being decent is if he gets a good FA. If, unlike Gief’s, it has good vertical and horizontal range and can tag stuff like Bison/Chun st.RH and shoto sweeps, then he could be dangerous. Wouldn’t hold my breath on that tho.

He’s not just going to be a straight port, much like Zangief wasn’t a port of SF4. It’s way too early to say what he’ll be like.

Hugo will suck , lets face it. The real question is who will be worse Gief or Hugo. I have a feeling Gief will end up being the worst of the grapplers in Ultra and that won’t surprise me one bit.

Heard it through the grapevine about Ultra Gief. He’s basically SSF4 Gief with Ultra 2, I know it’s not incredibly specific but can all but confirm EXGH kd is coming back and LP SPD range is getting nerfed.

Am I being childish or does that actually sound quite bad in light of the significant buffs that other characters are receiving?
I’d be very happy to see him get KD back for a start, though. It was ridiculous to watch him get punished on a successful hit.

Wait, they are trying to reduce vortex gameplay but he gets back ex GH kd and loses what started making him even scarier in the corner?

There was no doubt in my mind that jab spd range would get nerfed, too many people bitched about it saying dumb shit like, “Gief can grab you from across the screen now”. Wouldn’t be surprised if they just gave him ex.gh kd again and called it a day while every other character moves right by him in the tier list. Watch them give him ex.gh kd but reduce the damage or some other bullshit like that.

Gief hot ex GH knockdown back, and GH is sped up, and possibly no longer punishable on hit…

We’ll see if this sticks but I’m not holding my breath. I can already hear all the bitching at the future location test sites that Gief is way too strong now and must be changed(nerfed). Hope I’m wrong. Safe regular gh sounds interesting. Hopefully he gets more like damage buffs and normal buffs like st.mk.

SIGHHHHHHHHHHH. Im hearing Gief lost the ability to combo into EX GH off of Shorts and jabs. Why the fuck is Capcom so hell bent on making Grapplers useless?

I seriously don’t understand why they hate him having tools when there are characters like Hugo, T. Hawk and Haggar that have utility outside of their command grab.

They believe that Zangief is fine the way he is, except for vs. fireball char.

Well, Okay, Ryu Dhalsim and Sagat will get easier. Which is really good. because they are very hard now. akuma might get slightly better too. But Juri wont.

The problem is, Rose, Deejay, Guile, Ken, and Sakura etc. are MUCh easier matchups to deal with, than characters like Honda, T.Hawk etc. Its not like ALL we need is a tool through fireballs, and then we are balanced. We are having issues vs. a big part of the cast, even matchups perceived to be Zangief beastmodem atches. They arent anymore. Things have changed.

They will make Regular greenhand safe on hit, But will it be enough + and have enough dmg? noone knows. In addition they will beef up most of the other characters too. So in the long run, not enough…

There’s no way this can be true. They would never do something this moronic, that doesn’t even make any sense.

God dammit Capcom…what’s the point of the move then? How do we play footsies? We’re basically a less damaging T. Hawk without that. Unless they intend on just making Gief combo with regular GH and only use EX for fireballs, which would be only slightly better than what we have now. If the SPD nerf is also true, then Gief will be even less scary and corner =/= death anymore. -_- fuck.

I hope its not true, but It wouldn’t surprise me if Capcom does pull something dumb like this.

Reduced LP SPD range would make fights against other grapplers that much harder.

Making regular GH somewhat more usable, by being quicker to get into position, is a nice plus I haven’t thought about. If they can increase the ability to banish projectiles once you’re established - that would be great.

If regular GH is safe on hit, that means unlimited option select GH pokes coming off the lights. Which would be a buff. Although I suspect with a catch, such as -1 or -2 on hit. In which case, your in a guessing game - although on the lesser end. Depending on how negative, SPD or AS may not be an option. So the guessing game, would go like this: block, back dash, Ultra 1, EX SPD.

If EXGH knocks down, that’s great for the fireball game. Even if you can’t combo into it from light attacks, its still your only use of EX bar, with the exception and limited circumstances of EX SPD, against non projectile characters.

I feel, that EX bar usage against non-projectile cast, would be very difficult. And that Zangief would have to guess with 1 bar, or regular GH a back dash and EX out with 2 bars, or use the whole 3 bars with EXGH - FA back dash. Big Z might find be in a situation where he constantly has access to super?

If we can only combo into regular GH and not EX, then we basically just took a damage nerf and a footsie nerf with LP SPD range decreased. And the tradeoff is that we’re slightly less reliant on meter…

Are there other Giefs out there doing more damage than SnakeEyez and Itabashi that we just don’t know about or something? Those guys are the best and they even get bodied free when they run up on one of Gief’s many bad matchups.

If these really are the changes to Gief, then it’s been good talking tech and whatnot with you guys for the past few years, but I’m done. Z is the only character I enjoy playing with and Capcom seems bent on making his gameplay as one dimensional and ineffective as possible. The patience and reactions that you need to consistently SPD limbs is fucking retarded, and messing up slightly means you eat at least 30%. But I guess that’s too OP. Oh, but keep mashing safe DP’s and FADCing into ultra because that’s some real high level shit. lol, And Chun Li gets a vortex. Wow. We don’t have one move that breaks armor yet that character now has 3. But you know what, she was a good character, not great. So I can hold that. But Cammy? You nerf Gief but buff the character who, for the past year, has consistently been regarded as top 3. sigh

I hope I’m crying like a bitch for no reason and this stuff ain’t true. But those changes definitely sound on par with what they’ve been doing to Gief since vanilla so…

Chief, I’m with you on this. If this bullshit is true then I’m done with Gief for good and going straight to Hawk. For some reason the people making these changes always seem to think Gief is way better than he really is. In reality at high levels he’s not good at all but they constantly overrate him every time.
