Did anyone read the changelist on Ehubs? Zangief is now a Mid-lowto Lowtier character. It seems he is destined to become the absolute WORST character in the game. This is rediculess! LOL Capcom is SERIOUSLY, not just whining. But reading all character changes, CLUELESS as to what is going on in their own game. Il enjoy SF until Ultra comes out, then move on about my life.
SPD from 1.75 to 1.60, Thats 0.05 LESS than in Super.
No frameadvantage on hit from Light GH, no comboes on any gh. EX-Hand SIXTEEN frames startup.

Honestly I’m thinking these changes are like this to get us all fired up just so they can change it after loketest feedback. Then capcom goes and destroys matchups with all kinds of ridiculously stupid changes. I don’t know what kind of drugs thr capcom staff has been snorting but zangief is not broken in his current state, which all of these nerfs imply.
He’s broken to online warriors which it seems Capcom is basing these changes on.
I will never understand why casual players care so much about certain matchups when they don’t even play the game correctly.
I was just saying, Capcom must be smoking crack with aids!! Zangief is now Mid-low to Lowtier. Really strong footsiecharacter who suffers some really tough matchups. I play many characters, but regardless of who I pick noone comes close to the feeling you get when moving forward and trying to get in the right ranges with Gief. Hes so unique, and such a great character why would you want to remove such a great aspect of the game? and create less diversity? What I am seeing with theese changes is a Bad version of T.Hawk. Its crazy if you ask me. They are finalising the touches that make Zangief from “Get the right Bracket in a tournament.” to “haha Im meeting a gief, whats he gonna do? he cant beat me even if he is god”

Absolutely worthless. I must have missed all the tournaments Zangief was tearing up with his amazing LP GHs.
I’m really glad I got to play vanilla SFxT and Super SF4 because someone in Capcom clearly got spat on by Putin or something, they seem to hate Zangief that much.

I like the idea to the changes which they have purposed but for Gief to become a good character with them, this HAS to happen.
LP-Flats sped up, but same on hit/block
Medium Flats, same speed, but +1 on hit, -13 on block.
-Why? Because Light flats does not nearly cover enough range to be able to be used as EX-GH is today. And I dont see why we shouldnt be able to play Gief properly until we have one stock of meter.
EX-Han Knockdown, 14frame.
Lp SPD, Same range(1.75), 160dmg.
This way, Zangief would have become a better version of himself. Instead of just beeing torn apart…
I had a feeling, LPGH .would be -2 on hit.
but wow, EXGH being 16 frame startup. I would only take that, if it gets improved range, armor break, and always hits twice. By knock down on first hit and juggle on second.
What that also means is that, effectively once you close distance, you practically have no reason to use EX meter. As you can’t! Thus, up close, Zangief needs his EX moves buffed to the point where he can actually use EX meter tools in close combat. I was hoping for a low penalty EX Atomic Suplex.
And nerfing far MP is just wrong, he’s got no viable footsie tools any longer. All one could do is counter poke them with LP or LK for 30 damage, and that’s it.
So far, the listed changes aren’t even balanced. Not enough compensation.
Suddenly AE 2012 Zangi is looking godlike.
Looking at the guessing game after the hit confirm into LPGH.
Apart from the obvious 1 and 2 frame punish.
If you stock Ultra 1, after a combo into LPGH. YOU ARE DONE! At -2, you can’t stop up-back. There is nothing you can do to punish jump back!!!
At -2, I think you lose the ability to hit them with far MP, even for an air reset.
At -2, you lose the ability to safely walk back and LP SPD
Thus the match-up will look like this:
- You have to naked EXGH whiff punish their heavy or medium pokes to score your knockdown. Some pokes aren’t even possible on reaction.
- Once you hit confirm into a combo and end with LPGH, you lose momentum and are at HUGE risk. As the threat of a combo or Ultra is always greater in damage than SPD.
- Once you hit confirm into LPGH, you get no safe low risk option.
- THUS, you never want to hit confirm into LPGH. Just don’t do it.
Areas Capcom needs to address:
- EX meter usage for when Zangief is up close. A buff to EX running bear grab or EX Atomic Suplex HAS to happen. The alternative is to buff EXGH hitbox vertically to catch opponents in the air as they land from their jumps. In non projectile character match-ups, I can see many Zangief’s sitting on FULL Super bars with absolutely no opportunity to use meter.
- Ultra 1, LPGH on hit -2, free jump back escape for the opponent. None of Zangief’s normals are fast enough or have the range to tag the jump back. Buffing the EXGH hitbox would take care of this. But I would consider, allowing any normal to hit in this spot to be, too good!
- Zangief has not yet been compensated in his footsie game.
EXGH may never see the light of day. Zangief may become the one character, where having meter might be useless.
They might as well make SPD/Ultra 1/ Atomic Suplex whiff recovery EX FADC cancellable. Just so that we have something to spend meter on.
Zhieeep said Zangief can’t even combo into any strength of green hand (he alsoplays Gief aswell. So unless Zangief is getting a extra 500 hp or his fierce spd does 400 damage then Zangief is dead.

I guess these changes are to make his matchups less polarizing but not being able to confirm combo into any GH is… wrong?

Pffffft. What made them blast Gief with these many nerfs? What’s the point of buffing lp GH if we have no way to combo into it? W Ultra can’t be the reason considering that Hakan can shut down the same options in a safer fashion but still got buffed like a crazy motherfucker. They gave us a worse EX GH than Super with a worse SPD than super, and they also nerfed our best poke for good measure, all of this while Makoto got buffed. Fun shit
Less polarizing how? Really, what/how many characters does Zangief beat as bad as Sagat, Akuma and Dhalsim beat him? These changes make absolutely no sense. What was the point of buffing LP GH if we can’t combo into it? And why did he lose his combos at all? They didn’t do any damage and he didn’t even get knockdowns. How do we play footsies? No buffer into ANY GH, and we can’t even grab limbs as good because they decreased the range of LP SPD to be worse than it was in vanilla. Guess we’ll have to rely on st.MP…oh yea they nerfed that too.
And then…THEN they give Seth back his j.FP. My condolences to anybody that started playing this game with AE; you never had to deal with a literally, a 10-0 matchup. Looks like Capcom wants you guys to join in on the fun, too. I know I’ve said it before, but if these changes stick, I’m fucking done.
Sad thing is I only get to play infrequently and I have been playing with kara lariat to catch jumps after current exgh “mixup” (after lp spd too). -2 means no go at all for that
I am so tierd of hearing Zangief “destroying” characters. Really, WHAT characters does he destroy in this game? Outside debatably Dudley, Guy and Yang? Which I think are strong 6-4s and not 7-3s(they cannot be compared to what Gief puts up with vs. hes supposed 3-7s eg. Juri, Sagat, and maybe Sim/Gouken). He goes even or loses to most of the cast. Its even been agreed upon by a community tierlist, which is odd because the average player usually hates the living shit ouf of grapplers because they themselves can not play the games.
IMO, Its better to just leave gief as he is NOW, than go ahead with experimenting with new changes, if theese changes are as terrible as the ones suggested.
Im gonna say this again. Even if LP-Flats was +1 and comboable, There would be TONS of pokes and ranges you could NOT whiffpunish or c.lp-Stuff-Buffer into Greenhand because of the short range Light Flats has. Try to whiffpunish Rose sweep with s.lk into LP-Greenhand and see if it hits. Or stuff her sf.rh with c.lp XX LPgreenhand at far range…
Someone also said they secretly nerfed hes air normals AGAIN. Like he needed nerfs… I guess thats what you get when old-tourney players with a grudge against certain characters like COmbofiend get hired to work with the game. He said he thought Zangief was overpowered or really strong. And look at the buff lists for Fuerte and Oni xD
