it’s ridiculous how people cry about this watered down version of Rolento
he doesn’t even have his original non-height restricted walldive or scouter jump

Kk I’ll add this to my gameplan
everything whiffs against asuka’s cr.mk… lol
=( I trusted you! Vega jHK and jHP hits…
Not that I am trying to debate your position much. I can agree with parts of it. However, as I recall, it was shown several times through out the SF25 Tournament that Cody does poorly against Rolento. No?
Damn, making me want to play SFA2 + 3 so much right now. Two of the few games that if Capcom were to do an OE edition I’d buy no questions asked.
How is this list produced? Where are the tournament wins for Alisa? Where is Heihachi?
I’m really baffled by your match-up stuff. How is Rolento threatened by Cody’s crouching light kick, why would Rolento ever be in a position to be attacked by it.
You guys keep bringing up scenarios that really rarely occur when Infiltration is playing Rolento. And when I point this out you guys say “oh that doesn’t count because it’s Infiltration”, but isn’t that the exact opposite? So I’m only allowed to reference the results of average players? Tiers are supposed to reflect how strong a character is in the hands of a top player playing to the best of their ability, it’s a measure of a character’s maximum strength. “Infiltration makes Rolento look top tier” IS a valid argument, because the point is what a character’s potential is. Close to flawless defensive Rolento play looks nearly impenetrable, and the onus is not on me to prove that it is when it’s clearly and repeatedly dominated international tournaments.
I mean I don’t know how you can possibly accuse me of making specious claims when you’re saying “Oh Ryu-Rolento is 6-4 because in my imaginary matches against Infiltration I come out on top”. Good lord. Or producing an Alisa-Rolento match-up number as if that’s a match-up anyone has a clue about.
edit: I admit that I’m just playing devil’s advocate, I’m mostly in the “nobody knows what real tiers look like” camp and my gut feeling is that Rolento is over-rated, but it’s so weird to me that people in SFxT scene are willing to declare with such certainty that certain characters are or aren’t top tier in complete contradiction to actual high level tournament results. It’s almost like there’s this perception that the highly visible tournaments aren’t “real SFxT” and don’t count because a lot of the people that win aren’t specialists, and the only SFxT that counts for determining tiers are people’s tiny local scenes or online sparring matches. Which is like the exact opposite of what it should be, but whatever.
Tournament wins alone aren’t the metric by which you measure balance. I am basing my conclusions on my experience, game knowledge, and the opinions of other similarly skilled players. In her current state, Alisa has the best conventional zoning in the game. The majority of the cast stands extraordinarily little chance of getting in on her, and she has excellent tools to mitigate characters with similar playstyles to her own. As for Heihachi, he has been considered one of the better characters for quite some time.
I was tired and didn’t feel like writing a complete rundown for the match up. Rolento sources damage from mid range poking. Cody really shouldn’t ever lose that sort of fight. If Rolento has a life lead, yes, he can run away with some amount of effectiveness, but Cody is quite capable of regaining the lead. It was overzealous of me to state matchups in FT10 format so simply. My thinking with regard to those relatively arbitrary numbers is based on a point v. point match up. A character’s strength can change depending on their team position and the game state they enter the much under. The game is too dynamic to label things as cut-and-dry as I did in that post. I was merely trying to give you a brief outline of how Rolento compares to commonly accepted top-tier characters.
Do you realize how many casual players have insisted upon seeing my Ibuki that she is “clearly overpowered”? Many people say the same after seeing JiBbo’s Sagat and I’ve seen comments overstating Steve’s strength because of Ryan Hunter’s play. None of these characters dominate their matchups. In top level play, Ibuki and Steve are mediocre at best. Sagat is solid, possibly A tier, but certainly not overpowered. This is the effect you are falling prey to. I could pick up Asuka tomorrow, play twenty matches online and post the video to Youtube and I guarantee there would be plenty of scrubs speculating that she “might not be so bad”, and “perhaps even top-tier”. A player winning with a character does not mean that character is top-tier or even qualifiably “good” for that matter.
Ryu undoubtedly and irrefutably is favored against Rolento. I’m sorry you can’t wrap your head around the fact that a player can make a judgement on the likely outcome of a match based on analyzing a potential opponent’s play. I used that hypothetical because I think many players respect my skill, but think Infiltration is probably better and that seemed a good way to give readers an idea about the standing of the match up without going into gratuitous detail.
I’m glad you realize that it is uncertain what an SFxT tier list would look like. I personally feel it is overtly obvious at this juncture which characters are clearly very strong and very weak, but that many underplayed characters may be better than currently thought (Ogre for example). You see alot of dismissal of tournament results because honestly, the highly visible SFxT play shown thus far has been a poor representation of the quality of games overall. Balance in fighting games is not ascertained by tournament results, and frankly I feel tournament results are a very poor way to judge character strength. Sethlolol won with Kuma. That does not mean Kuma is OP or even necessarily good. Additionally, tournaments introduce factors beyond the strength of the characters played and skill of the players using them. Nerves and distraction.
Alisa isn’t as good as you claim her to be. I’m not going to do a long write-up on why she isn’t because I’ve already stated why to you in Jibbo’s stream several times over and it fell on deaf ears. That is all I’m contributing for now.
Looks like Rolento is on speed. God, I forgot how fast he was.
And every argument you made was refuted by myself and Ike Takeda. She is not just good, she is borderline broken. You are not accustomed to the level of competition we are. You watched a room full of very skilled players get swept by her repeatedly and still insisted she isn’t exceedingly strong completely nonsensically.
EDIT: To those wondering. Songi’s claim is that Alisa is offensively lacking and therefore one can simply hit her and run away for the rest of the match. If you can’t understand why this is a dumb argument I have no time for you.
I’m sorry, I’m not going to argue with you again. I’d have more luck talking to a wall. As for saying I’m not accustomed to the level of competition you guys are is just plain ignorance. Man I respect you and your play but I gotta say you’re approaching the match-up in a completely incorrect manner. That is all.
That’s all I was getting at lol so at least we agree there xP.
And after losing a bunch with Asuka I find Lars,Elena, Juri, Rolento and Lili sooooo much more refreshing. I might take a break from Asuka for a day lol.
it’s the poke hit-confirms isn’t it? ;___;
Yes, come join the Lili Army. Discard that brute Asuka Kazama. Become a Paragon of Grace.
It’s the everything xD. Man I’m used to being a scum bag, but this character requires honesty and confidence… Oh and b+mp xx mk misses alllll the time makes me sad. But I’ll keep trying.
Lol I was already in the Lili army xD. She was my sub for a long time now. Love that gurl~~ Especially vs Blanka Take away all his options with counters. xD
Yea… thankfully thats one of the fixes she gets in 2013. Until then b+mp xx d.mk CADC works better as a way in (despite giving them a roll option on hit).
…and as a side note, you can also take away all of blanka’s options with launcher. Seriously, he’s so free to it… lol
Wow really even blanka ball, up ball and electricity? If so then I need to start abusing that lol… I feel no pity for him after his SF4 incarnation.
you can tag full screen balls and electricity flat out loses… not sure on up balls actually… lol
How do you guys feel Abel will fare in 2013? Would like to hear your opinions he’s not a character you see often, but I’ve started messing with him.
