2 PCB's in one stick - Possible?

I am attempting to create a 2 PCB setup in my custom stick.

Xbox 1 (wired) http://www.slagcoin.com/joystick/pcb_diagrams/xbox_diagram4.jpg

Xbox 360 (wired) http://www.slagcoin.com/joystick/pcb_diagrams/360_diagram3.jpg

I redesigned a past diagram to fit my current needs:

My questions:

  1. Obviously there is no guide button on the original xbox - do I leave the button disconnected or connect it with a dummy connection (I’m not sure).

  2. Are all the connections correct?

The single USB connection will be connected to the 360 via the USB, and the original xbox via an adapter that I will create that will be swappable between the systems.

I have read all of the thread and others and think I understand. Both controllers are common ground.

Hey i got a question, i got a Psone “h series” gamepad and a xts wireless “late version” (marked like that for slagcoin) and recently i tried to make a dual mod, the thing is i solder the ground and 3.3v point from psone pcb to the ground and 3.3v points of the wireless xts pcb, and also solder the signal wires from psone to the buttons and directions of the arcade stick (at the same time i solder the wires from a strip barrier to the same buttons and directions of the stick coming from the xts pcb of course, also i’m using a universal ground for both pcb’s) well it only works once and now nothing is responding, but if i des-solder the wires from psone pcb to the buttons and stick xts system works perfect… what i’ m doing wrong?? (i will try to make a little drawing to explain better)… well it’s my first attemp to make a dual mod hack… so i really need a little help to keep going… thanks srk lovers!

Toodles, please help…

Question for Toodles:

I am about to put in a Madcatz 360 wired PCB to my recently acquired Pelican Real Arcade Universal. I am unfamiliar with this PCB. I got a few of questions regarding dual PCB setup.

Pelican Universal PCB front view:

Pelican Universal PCB back view:

  1. Where do I connect the +5v from Madcatz on the Pelican board? I found the red wire coming from the cable is supplying around 3.1 volts.

  2. I also noticed that the pelican PCB has a voltage regulator on it, and it has 5 volts on one of its legs. Is this a 3.1 to 5 volt step up, do I connect the 5 volts from Madcatz to this or the 3.1 volt source from the cable?

  3. And then I found another 3.1 volt source also coming from the wire, the wire is colored red with white stripe on it.

So right now I am a bit unsure as to where to connect the +5 volt from Madcatz on the Pelican Universal PCB.

Bump, anyone else worked with Pelican Real Arcade Universal PCBs?

Reading a little back messages i will be able to know that wireless + wired dual mod will never work fine (or neither work at all)… thanks!

Does anybody have solder diagram for the HRAP3 PCB? I’ve dual modded mine and I’d like to connect the XBOX Guide button to the PS3 Home button, but none of the solder points on the PCB are labeled with anything that makes sense.

Thanks in advance

Is it possible to wire a stick for project boxes while also keeping a PCB (or two) inside it?

By project box, I assume you meant another external box outside of the joystick case? If my assumption of what you meant is correct, the answer is yes you can put the PCBs wherever you like, but you might need to run a connector with at least 14~16 wires (6~8 buttons, start, select, guide/home, 4 directions + ground) between the joystick case and the project box. A DB15 or DB25 connector can be used to link the 2 boxes.

Yup, that’s exactly what I mean. I want to have a 360 PCB and an MC Cthulhu inside my stick, but also have a connector to add other external PCB’s in project boxes. I’ll be doing the 4 directions, 8 buttons, start, back, home, and ground so I’d need at least 16 wires. It seems like most people use DB25 connectors so I picked up a couple DB25 connectors at Radio Shack, but I can’t find a DB25 cable anywhere (besides printer cables that don’t have the full 25 pins). Anyone know of a store that carries such a cable? Also, would one of the pins be carrying voltage from the Cthulhu and 360 PCB’s to the external project box PCB?

Monoprice.com my friend is your solution to your cable problem (Best on-line store for any types of standard cables).

The reason I didn’t mention the +5 volt line is I assumed since the PCBs reside in the project box, the cables to the console will also run from the project box, so no need to run 5 volts into the actual joystick box unless you want to do LED mods or putting in Sanwa Flash/P360 sticks which requires +5volts to power up the optical sensors.

I want to have two PCB’s inside the stick though, so wouldn’t the power lines from those PCBs need to be linked to the power lines on the project box PCBs?

Edit: Does this cable carry all 25 wires straight through (i.e. is it right for project boxes)? http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10210&cs_id=1021001&p_id=380&seq=1&format=2

On a side note, does a longer cable cause any lag between when you press a button and when it registers with the PCB? I ask because I’m wondering how long the DB25 cable should be, since I want a comfortable length but I also don’t want any lag.

Ah I see. In that case, yes, you need to run the +5volt line in the cable/connector so both PCBs are linked.

As for the cable, I assume the wires should be straight but I can’t say for sure. Best method is to use a Digital Multi-Meter (DMM) and buzz the cable end to end to be absolutely sure.

I’ve heard any cable length less than 15 feet total you should be OK, but again I’ve only heard of this, may not be completely accurate.

Anyone here have pics of their DUAL MODDED PS3 TEs?..I’m planning on doing the mod soon and was wondering where you guys put the 360 PCB? headset jack? 4-led button?

Thanks!

Quick question, is there a certain type/brand of usb hub that I should use when I want to connect a Madcatz 360 pcb and a Cthulhu to it or will any kind do ?

The thing is, that sounds like a dangerous setup. After all, if a system was plugged in and someone touched the exposed 5V pin wouldn’t they be electrocuted?

By 5V ?

What kind of diode would limit the current to 5V?

check it out i did a tutorial for the mad catz 360 se + cthulhu

I also hacked a 360 pcb and put it in my ps3 SE. I put a switch in this one

hey Any suggestions how im suppose to solder, the tiny little metal mole, labeled LT,

i cant be leaking, touching the other two, should i put some sort of plastic, and remove it later ?

Also to solder over the black bits [black on my pad] do i need to skrape some off to show the metal plate?

I’m not expert but what I did on my hack when I had small areas to solder was tin the wire with solder then apply flux to the point to be soldered. Pressed the tinned wire onto it then applied heat to the top of the wire long enough for the wire and contact point would both head up. THe flux helped the solder already on the wire flow.

The wire did get rather hot to hold, and the connection probably isn’t that strong, and it may not be prefered soldering procedure, but it worked for me.
