Watch the last 30 seconds or so of the first video. They’re talking to Jake (the kid playing Fei) about how he did in the tournament. He had to play Mike Watson in game one and Jesse in game two (Jesse got knocked into the losers early and came back thru the losers bracket). How’s that’s for a bad draw? If you ever feel bad about your draw at a tournament, think about how you’d feel if you drove 6 hours to get beat by your friend and the one of the best players in the county.
well a lot of people had to play against Watson and Jesse, more over since Jesse was in losers the people he was beating he was eliminating. Like that one guy that said that there’s life and sf who drove 14 hours just to lose in the tournament (not to say that he lost to either of those two but other people came from further away than MN only to lose.
Good shit with that ken. I was a witness to the beast also. Best sf moment I’ve ever seen with my own 2 eyes! That and TOMO raping with geif in ST. There’s a black kid from minn that came to Final Round named tarkanX. Do you know him? He’s a pretty cool guy. Anyways, are you responsible for this footage getting out? Because if you are you get a free badge for FRXII(FinalRound11) from me. You just need to make sure you remind me if you plan on attending frxii next year. I’m old and I forget shit. ST is on 3 arcade setups 2 cabs, 1 supergun and NKI is going for the 3peat. Old school fo life shawty!
i still have my ST trophy from FR!!! ARCADE4LIFE!!! console sucks… btw, cant believe you changed trophies after i won 2 at fr… i aint got no pimp cup son!! WTF
True, but did they get the 1-2 knockout punch in their first two games? Not quite.
Yeah, I know Tahir. He still plays regularily with the crew here and is a bit of an anomoly in the fact that he’s so young but is a ST disciple.
People have been flipping their shit over this footage that we’ve been thinking about dusting off some more old footage we have from various tournaments including the '97 (I think) MWC. Would you cats be interested in seeing any of that?
I’m totally going to hijack this part of the thread as it is a good story although like 9 people take credit for it (including myself)
So Super Just Games 1997 rolls around and I drive to Chicago and meet up with Seth, the Cannons, Choi, Sirlin, Valle, Rob, Acero, etc. Keep in mind this was one of the (if not the first) first times players from all over the country actually came together to play SF. I know B3 had some people before and so did some other gatherings but in my opinion this is perhaps the most important tournament in Street Fighter history - no joke.
So while we are there everyone talks about Jesse and his Fei Long. After a day or two someone finally realizes there are 2 Jesse’s that play Fei Long! This screwed everything up and no one could keep track of who was who. So…we had to figure out how to differentiate one from the other. I (see I’m totally taking credit for it) go, ‘oh - that jesse? that’s jumpsuit jesse’ since he wore a jump suit the entire tournament. Thus the nickname was born and is still kept alive to this day.
To be honest - that shit was 11 years ago and I really don’t remember who came up with it. I could have, so could have sirlin - hell so could have Mr. Cardenas himself but I like to believe I did hahaha. All I know is that SJG 97 is where the name was born and put into the SF dictionary for ever.
It is really difficult to get younger players to get into ST seriously. I tried to do so with my younger cousins, but they’re all about the Mvc2, Sc, and T5dr/6. Which theres nothing wrong with that(I love those games too), but they don’t really care about the other gems out there like ST, A2, A3, cvs2, 3s, etc. Oh well.
Of course. Seeing classic matches, the old arcade environments, and reactions from people back in the day is priceless.
What gets me is that it was 1994 and people still thought throwing was cheap I still remember the day roger chung came back from hong kong with tick throws on SF2. Bastard jumped in with guiles short kick and threw…over and over again. Had to learn timing the hard way :bgrin:
You need to make a return to the “A” to defend your old man title son next year! NKI been running wild on fools since you been gone. He’s going for a 3peat in ST next year. : :smokin: I will be announcing FRXII very soon!:bgrin: Every game has pimp cups now!:smokin:
Jesse, FR is in Atlanta. Definitely hitting that up next year!
Not sure what your point is. We drove 14 hours for the experience. All 3 of us knew we had a very low probability of winning anything due to lack of a player base where we lived. Hell, I remember a specific conversation with that guy on the drive out about not standing a chance in hell, but a planned road trip to a huge event, out of state, for something we all loved to do, was well worth 14 hours to lose to people like Jesse and Mike.
All 3 of us won a decent fair share of matches, had an absolute blast in the casuals, got out of our lame ass town, were part of what I consider a very monumental occasion in SF history, learned an absolute TON, and got to meet people we never would have met had we stayed in our po-dunk town, playing the same 6 people over and over.
Damn. I sound like I should be defending something, and forgive me if I sound condescending, since I am not sure what your point is. But all 3 of us had an absolute BLAST on one HELL of a road trip.
You never heard of FINAL ROUND?:wtf::wtf::wtf: I guess I need to get the word out more. FinalRound is a tournament i’ve been throwing in the ATL for going on 11 years now. Next year will be the 12th Southern Classic. It’s pretty much the Southeast major.:bgrin: Here’s some links to this past years event.
Work permitting I’d love to go. I feel bad I’ve never heard of it. My extent in the gaming scene isn’t what it used to be, and for quite some time. I still love SSF2T and Virtua Fighter but I just don’t seem to have the drive that I used to. This definitely added to my diminishing knoweldge of the entire scene, although I have always been aware of MWC and EVO. If I can make it I’ll be there!!
One thing I know for sure - someone come ask me when I’m 90 years old how to do a Dragon Punch and I’ll be able to answer!
Old footage is wanted because it’s rare as it is. IN this day and age, there are STILL very few videos of all of these older tournaments up online. I used to have a bunch, and sold everyone of the, but of course, I would like to see them freely available on YouTube
It’s cool man, I just thought I did a good job promoting FR over the years, but there’s always room for improvement.:bgrin: Hopefully you can make it out next year. Alot of big time EC players come to FR every year now.
