As an old school unknown player I like seeing old school tournaments like this. Wish they would come back in style. If i win the lottery Final Round will be run on nothing but aracde machines. Now i’m to big to play on one of those small old school cab’s. It would have to be on the showcase cab’s like I have right now. I need my elbow room. 3 with happs ulitimate comp stick with heavy spring and 3 with sanwa sticks. 2 machine with the mix of both sticks. That would be for every game. There is nothing like playing against a person on a cab imo. Nothing can compare.
I run a major console tournament, but I try to keep the old school games on the arcade machines just to keep that REAL old school feeling for the game. Footage like this makes me think back to the good old days. You know the days before youtube, srk, and irc. The days when people had to play to learn how to play the game. Not just look it up on youtube and xcopy some skills.
Scott(Delpino)was the guy who always yelled “THROW HIM!” at random times. I remember when Kuni was at a tourney and asked him in a super polite voice “Tell me please, why you love throws so much?” and Scott looked at him like :wtf:
man those were the days. everyone pimpin mustaches cause we all trying to front that we were older. now we old and make sure we shave!!! lol. oh yeah, and we were all alot skinnier, aside from omni!
I know I was skinner back in the day. whoever is responsible for saving these sf2 tournament tape and posting them up should get free entry to every major event this year. These vids are priceless, because it gives you a small taste of what the golden age was all about. Yo mike, is the guy you played against in the finals back in the day the same guy that made it to the top 8 in ST at evo2k4 using regular ken? I think I remember seeing someone from minn in the top 8 using ken and I was wondering if that was him.
Yep, that was me. I still can’t believe I lost to Justin’s Sagat after I beat him the first game. I’m so glad I was there to be a part of the best comeback of all time - Daigo’s infamous parry!!
