and to all the denjin players! good to see so many of us there and to do so well. if i forgot anyone sorry.

Best moment of the tournament:
Paul vs. Christian. Mike Ross and I betting on how many tigers in a row Sagat would throw. First Paul threw 22 and blew everyone away…then he threw 24 and broke his own record. Too good. I’m learning Sagat.

Also, if we’re going to have this kind of turnout with only 1 machine we’re going to have to go to more 1 game sets. I got peaced out pretty early and left like 1 minute after I got beat and I still made it home at like 11:30. I know everyone doesn’t have to drive as far as I do or wake up as early for work as I do, blah blah blah, but still. I know at least 10+ people who were thinking about coming/could have come/just decided not to go when they woke up Sunday morning. So we could have had an even bigger turnout.

I think if we have around 32-48 people, going double elim 2 out of 3 in winners, 1 game in losers is fine as long as we start on time. Once we start getting into 50+ people, I think we should go 1 game the whole way through until top 8 or top 16.

Thoughts?

Who’s Paul? And which Eric? Also can you list the characters people used?

Good stuff Steve, rep Denjin!

Paul and Eric are AI locals who show up early and beat everyone. They got 4th in the team tournament a couple weeks ago.

Damn that was a long ass tourney. Good shit to everyone who played yesterday. Anyway there’s something on my mind that I need to express.

Sometime during the middle of the tourney Shoo went outside to record and ask what makes a successful tourney. It didn’t occur to me at the time, but there is one thing that needs to be addressed.

In one of Rockefeller’s old podcasts he mentions how the fighting game community is a pretty small niche. He makes a point about how it’s bad enough that we get shit for being nerds playing videogames by everyone that’s not apart of the community, but do we really need to be making fun of each other too.

I completely agree with his statement. I understand the whole getting hype, that’s cool with me. But some of the shit talking that’s starting to take place is getting out of hand. There is absolutely no reason mid-match that someone has to say “WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT THAT?” But no one says anything about it because we know the guy, so we let it slide.

What if some new guy shows up beats one of the well known members of our community, and at the end of the match says “Yeah that’s right! I owned your mom the same way last night, bitch! Fuck you!” and walks away from the machine. People would be fucking pissed off because we don’t know the guy.

Rules need to be set about excessive trash talk and need to be enforced on everybody, because this shit is ridiculous, is completely unnecessary, and just bad sportsmanship.

This is an issue that really bothered me about the tourney last night. Too many cliques and sides being taken. Everybody wants the SF4 scene to be big and continue to grow, but that’s not going to happen if we act like that. We’re a small enough community as is, and with all this shit talking going on were alienating all the new people that want to be apart of the scene.

Anyway that’s my two cents.

I get where you’re coming from but everyone knows its just during the tournament and all in good fun.

Like when sanchez was playing tatsu and yells at him “WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU GOING TO DO” yeah its harsh but in the end everyone shakes hands and gets along. No one really (truly) hates anyone. If they do its probably old history. We <3 all the new guys

lets not be oregon plx

dragonite it is still a tournament, people play to win and do whatever they can in order to win. u can either dish it back and/or let your game do the talking

YO MIKE… you played the best you can! haha

i’m tied with the mike ross :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

we got this next time…

VIDEO 94 STAND UP! :stuck_out_tongue:

The community is supposed to grow so let’s just shit talk each other all day. New people aren’t going to understand that. Who the fuck wants to join a community that is so hostile with one another? We know it’s all fun and games because were apart of the community, but still sometimes people take it too far. there’s a difference between getting “hype” and taunting.

If we want this to be big we can’t have outsiders seeing us as little kids playing a game talking shit to each other and getting mad when we lose. because that’s exactly what it looks like.

That shit happened to me too at the first AI tourney btw. While I was playing people were talking shit about me, and rooting for their friend. After I pulled off the victory I turned around and “got hype.” guess how that shit turned out? i hear a bunch of fools mumbling to themselves “who the fuck does he think he is?” fuck that shit! So it’s okay for you to talk shit to my back, but when i stand up turn around to all you fools and defend myself, that’s when you guys take it all personal?

I’m just making a point. That is not going to help make this community grow. There is no way to justify that kind of behavior even if you’re joking bc one of these days someone isn’t going to find it funny.

What if some top tier player said what i just said? what if instead of dragonite you saw alex valle or ed ma’s name i’m sure you guys would feel differently about the point i was trying to make because everyone likes to just dick ride top tier fools anyway.

@Dragonite
you got a point, there should be rules for this, and there **are **rules for trash talk and etc. But those are usually more for National tournaments, and when overseas players coming in, like Evo. I think for AI though, and most local tournaments, we’re actually all friends- especially Sanchez, who is a lover, not a fighter. He’s a nice guy. Ken, the AI owner is a nice guy to talk to. Gootecks is a nice guy. Luca is a nice guy.

I haven’t heard from Tatsu, but i’m sure hes ok. i think all the yelling and drama and etc is good to make people more excited about the game. And it can attract new players too.
