Create “Mike Z’s thread - yes, we actually have lead designer talking to people in proper english - how’s that, Ono?” and it’ll be okay =]
The way I understand it is that usually after a push-block, your character still has to compete the guarding animation before they can act. With push-block cancelling in place, as long as you *aren’t *still holding block, your character will snap into neutral without completing her blockstun animation.
As for the new push-block change… I have no clue. I’ve been goofing around in the lab, and here’s what I’ve checked:
Pushblock changes?
–> cancel into Stunt Double? Works, but apparently not a new feature
–> gains tension? Nope.
–> reduces chip damage? Nope.
–> cancels into other attacks? Nothing besides Stunt Double.
Edit: I turned hitbox display on, and… push-blocking, then changing stances (high/low) changes my box’s color to pink? What’s that mean? Pink is also the color for jump/block, but I don’t know if this is significant.
EditEdit: Apparently, it’s just mid attacks that don’t trigger the pink frames? Confused.
Try a high low mixup and see if it auto blocks or something?
Does the hitbox color change depending on your initial stance? In other words, If you pushblock low vs. pushblock high does the hitbox always turn pink?
(^.^)
Try a left/right mix-up too, if possible. That should help with the auto block testing.
This shit just reminded me of Blue’s Clues for some reason…
>_>
Perhaps, but that doesn’t mean that having an official forum is "the worst thing ever for any game."
Starcraft 2, WoW, and League of Legends have official forums and they’re some of the most popular games anywhere. Smash Bros. has its own dedicated forum, separate from SRK, and I don’t see them in any trouble. The smash bros. community probably even grew because it had its own hub; Melee is still hosted at major tournaments and that game is 11-12 years old.
What do I want?
I want to not have to use SRK for SkullGirls because NOTHING else brings me here. The only reason my account creation date is so early is because I wanted to post in a local tournament thread to ask a question for another game that SRK doesn’t care about (smash bros.). Otherwise, I’d probably have an account dated 2012 April XX.
I want to not have to rely on a forum where the majority of the users, mods, and generally the people who run this whole website, don’t give a shit about SkullGirls and just keep pushing Capcom like it’s the best thing since sliced bread.
The forums also frequently lag, take forever to load, or don’t load at all and I’ve never see this kind of behaviour with any other forum.
Push-blocking does NOT auto-block high/low mixup. Tested w/ Parasoul j.HK(5), c.LK, blocking the 4th hit of j.HK to prevent Parasoul being knocked out of c.LK range. Gonna check cross-ups, next.
So you’re on the right track…and now I’m just being a jerk. :^)
Ya suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure?
The other thing I would try would be whether the pushblock prevents you blocking a high/low.
That’s got nothing to do with the forums and everything to do with Melee being super fun and Brawl being crap, IMO.
Whatever else you have to say about SRK, it gets traffic.
Ask Chibi to add a forum to his site, maybe?
I’m guessing if you pushblock high, the high blck state continues even as you block low, thereby allowing you to block high and low simultaneously. I
Does pusblocking, going neutral, then blocking again block high or low, regardless of stand or crouch?
It only goes pink when push blocking with downback and putting the stick somewhere other than any back direction.
j131901 might have it; push-blocking, then changing block stance, will continue blocking the first attack height.
Tested with Parasoul / Cerebella (Cerecopter). I had Parasoul call Cerecopter assist, then move in with c.LK c.MK. I pushblocked the c.LK, and stood up for the c.MK, and didn’t take a hit. This might be fun, eh?
So, makes reversals and guard cancels easier?
Yesssss. More interesting: what if parasoul went high after the pushblocked. C. Lk?
And which of these games is an indie game and part of a popular genre which has a massively traffic catching general board with a subforum for said game?
The thing is, a lot of people like it here (me included). It’s not like we have no room or silly rules to follow (we got char subboards and even our OTT back), and most people liking SG also like other FGs for which this forum provides a platform. If you create an official forum, this here isn’t going to disappear (at the very least it’s gonna stay to draw in players who happen to find this subforum and wonder what this game is).
That means: The community is split in half. That means: One has to crosscopy each and every sensible post, or one of the forums (this subboard vs official forums) will ‘come out on top’ and everyone will emigrate there with the other side dying.
If the offical forums die, they were senseless to begin with. If this SRK subsection dies, we become a hyper closed-off community with little to no fresh blood ever.
Single forums are good for games which are “too big” to just be subboard (see SC2, WoW, etc) or ones where you’re a closed off community to begin with and/or there simply isn’t any overlying genreforum for whatever game you’re playing (so you have no choice). Neither of these is the case here.
You severely underestimate the effect of the “random factor” in regards to community growth. For AAA titles or very specific games it is indeed irrelevant (nobody with a console that is interested in shooters will go to an FPS forum and then think “Call of Duty? Haven’t heard that one before! Let’s check it out”; and neither will a GC owner not know what Smash\Melee is); indie games thrive off getting a bigger community via ‘leeching’ it off big general forums.
I’m very thankful for this subboard and am confident SG wouldn’t have had half the sales if the devs had gone with an “official forums” solution from the get-go, rather than settling here.
She can’t, c.LK s.4HK is too slow to connect during the pushblock. I can pushblock a high and block a low with this tech, though, so I don’t see why it wouldn’t work the other way.
Off topic, but this!
