$1000 Contest: Ultimate Starcraft II Stick Buildoff, Deadline Extended!

It’s basically a joystick that feels like a mouse.

Congrats to first place winner! That is an awesome render and looking forward to seeing the final built version.

My design does seem big but as this was going to be a show piece I decided to make it more grand.

The rest of the images that were presented are below which includes measurements aswell for those curious about the size of the whole thing.

heres a another one i did for shits and gigs if anyone wants to collab lemme know i love modeling in 3d these are my first two fight sticks though

I wonder why everyone has such a thick base when they designed this board. You barely need an inch and a half (probably less) to house buttons + wiring

I’m with you. Sam’s seemed to be the slimmest, and his was the only one with a joystick in it.

I am thinking it is easier to draw and render.

I also assuming that the people’s renders might use a preexisting joystick base

I want to see what AMR can do with the actual build. We all know B15SDM can build what he rendered. but I would hope that AMR didnt win $1000 for a cool looking render of a keyboard. The actual keyboard will hopefully look like what he drew up on his concept design. if he was actually able to build that I know he will get other people requesting for other keyboards as well. it looks really good. I will be sad if its just a cut up TE with a ton of buttons. His keyboard doesnt even look like it has arcade buttons like the other concept keyboards. this will be fun to see.

Meh, for a $1000 he could just farm it out to a pro builder and still walk away with a whole lot of money. I briefly considered it, since I knew I wouldn’t have time to build a stick. However, I thought it would be in poor taste and ruin the spirit of the competition.

I didn’t mean any disrespect but I was just thinking it would suck if the actual build didn’t reflect on the concept art. it is a truly good looking design.

Comments like yours are not disrespectful, and yes, you are right. It would be extremely disappointing if the built version doesn’t even compare with the render. I can assure you I will not let that happen. I am building it myself, with my partner mammoth (on this forum). We have the resources to make it happen. I appreciate comments like yours because they ground me. I know there is pressure and I knew entering that this was the hardest part. I look forward to showcasing and proving people that I can, in fact, build it. It will take more work than just cutting up an existing joystick. This thing is being built from scratch.

We are also documenting the process, with pictures and video, so look forward to that when we release the stick.

Thanks guys.

good luck!

Almost done guys! Just needs a fresh coat of black!

crazy!

Out of curiosity, what is the joystick intended for? I expect that the players will still need their mouse for left and right clicking.

obviously they wanted to use happ competition buttons

only the finest american parts for an american game

But shouldn’t it be Crown or Fanta buttons seeing as S. Korea is the games largest market?

So it has been about a month, and that May 14th deadline is approaching. Any progress? I am concerned because we where only shown a 3d render, but no samples or indication of past experience fabricating real world touchable materials.

Here’s a low quality teaser pic I took just two minutes ago. Enjoy

You only have 7 days to get it to the competition organisers!
