$1000 Contest: Ultimate Starcraft II Stick Buildoff, Deadline Extended!

The case seems to go well. Painting is the most time consuming task now and electronics get done pretty quickly. I guess they are OK with the deadline.

Hope my fellow TechTalkers don’t get me wrong, but only because TT members have never seen their work on a custom stick, doesn’t mean they don’t have the means/skill to achieve it.

Seems to me sometimes - and I hope I’m being simply mislead by the lack of intent and emotions written word usually offer - that some people are not cheering for their success, but pretty much the contrary.

I am cheering for their success, just like I would for anyone else, and of course I’m eager to see this baby up and running when it’s done.

I do not think it is unreasonable to ask how the progress of the SC II controller is going.
Also it is not that I want to discourage anyone or cheer for their failure, but I am highly skeptical by nature.
And being skeptical I did have to ask where is this project was going, hence why I agree with rtdzign’s statement.

Then again I felt the time scale everyone had to work on there projects, and the rewards/pay off being as little as it is isn’t worth the effort.
Also no offense to the contest participants but there are little verification of each participants qualifications other than pretty 3D renders isn’t a grantee of a finished product and each participants known history. Do not get me wrong I am ecstatic that the underdog is getting first place and if he delivers what he promising it prove to us the guy is worth is sauce.

Don’t get me wrong, but they respond to the organizers only. In seven days a LOT can happen, for good or bad, but the deadline is not even close to end.

I’ve been rather curious myself. Even more anxious to see it all WORK… I mean, you’ve seen the APM videos of SC players… Can you imagine all of those keyboard buttons that they are hitting so fast be ARCADE BUTTONS?!? Thing is going to sound like Dolce from IIDX just got on a cabinet.

Hey guys

So it wouldn’t be true to the Starcraft/Blizzard style if we released the joystick at the stated time. Some modifications are taking place currently to ensure that this controller responds and acts like a superb keyboard and mouse gaming alternative. As such, it will not be finished the May 14th deadline, but progress is basically there. Since it wouldn’t be fair to leave you guys dry (especially after waiting this long), I uploaded some photos. I made an album so please enjoy! Currently only the LED’s and the acrylic w/ decal are missing (both to be finished by mondey). We need to rework the mouse and that’s why we require the extension.

If anybody has any questions we are more than willing to answer them. Thanks!

good stuff guys~
so the mouse IS just for show lol

It will act as a mouse with left and right clicking, it just requires a modded joystick for the mechanics

My original thought was that 45 days was way too little time to ask to craft something like that.

I hope this includes using an actual analog joystick.

Bingo

that looks AMAZING. If that ever hit the market i’d definitely buy one, and I don’t even play SC2! Just to turn some heads at an arcade lol. would be pretty fun to do an led mod with the buttons. I actually want one lol :frowning:

But isn’t that a jlf inside it? Those are digital…

If that is the joystick being used, It does look Sanwa…

Unless it’s a modified Ultra Stik 360 or some other random analogue brand.

How did you mod the buttons!?
Looking great btw!

The stick you see in those shots is a sanwa. I recently requested that they swap in an Ultra Stik 360, which is the main reason for the delay.

Ermm… what’s the progress on this stick?

Trying to import an Ultra Stik 360 could take up to a year in some parts of the world.

I wasn’t sure if you guys could replicate your design irl, but you certainly have me sitting here shocked.

Can’t wait to see the completed product!

That’s one fucked up device and program you got there.
