10 years ago the greatest open world game of all time was released

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is an open world action-adventure video game developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games. It was released on 26 October 2004 for the PlayStation 2 console, and on 7 June 2005 for Microsoft Windows and Xbox. It is the seventh title in the Grand Theft Auto series, and the first main entry since 2002’s Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. It was released on the same day as the handheld game Grand Theft Auto Advance.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is played from a third-person perspective in an open world environment, allowing the player to interact with the game world at their leisure. The game is set within the fictional U.S. state of San Andreas, which is heavily based on California and Nevada.** The state of San Andreas consists of three metropolitan cities: Los Santos, based on Los Angeles; San Fierro, based on San Francisco; and Las Venturas, based on Las Vegas. The single-player story follows Carl “CJ” Johnson, who returns home to Los Santos after learning of his mother’s murder. CJ finds his old friends and family in disarray, and over the course of the game he attempts to re-establish his old gang, clashes with corrupt cops, and gradually unravels the truth behind his mother’s murder. The plot is based on multiple real-life events in Los Angeles, including the rivalry between the Bloods and Crips street gangs, the 1980s crack epidemic, the LAPD Rampart scandal, and the 1992 Los Angeles riots.

Upon its release, the game was acclaimed by many reviewers who praised the music, story and gameplay. It became the best-selling video game of 2004, and has sold over 27 million copies; it remains the best-selling PlayStation 2 game of all time. The game, like its predecessors, is cited as a landmark in video games for its far-reaching influence within the industry. The violence and sexual content of San Andreas has been the source of public concern and controversy. In particular, a player-made software patch, dubbed the “Hot Coffee mod”, unlocked a previously hidden sexual mini-game.

The next main entry in the series, Grand Theft Auto IV, was released on 29 April 2008 to critical acclaim. San Andreas has been ported to various other platforms and services, such as OS X, Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network and mobile devices (iOS, Android, Windows Phone and Amazon Kindle). In October 2014, the game was taken off the Xbox Live Store. It was later announced that the game would be re-released and enhanced to celebrate the 10th anniversary.

And to think that Shenmue was released 10 years ago…

No san andreas fans?

I thought this was a Shenmue thread ugh

San Andreas sucked. That shit was TOO open, resulting in boring.

I tried to install it on Linux to play it in Wine, and it ran slow as hell, which is obviously my system telling me the game bores it to the point of running slow.

Booo, San Andreas. Booo.

That is not how you spell The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.

But seriously I didn’t think San Andreas is worthy of such praise.

Way I saw it, it is not that the game was too big or too small, it was too ambitious.

Yeah there 3 huge cities, but the actual cities have very little content. In comparison Shenmue (which came out 15 years ago not 10) which was a smaller single city, but every shop and building is brimming with rich details and things to interact with.

There’s a possibility of the remastered version coming out to the 360.

MOre than just a possibility - http://www.t3.com/news/gta-san-andreas-hd-version-coming-to-xbox-360-tomorrow

What a minute. This isnt a thread for Hulk Ultimate Destruction.

WHY!!!

Let that awful game fall into obscurity. There so many other much better games to remake.

ya’ll are wack, san andreas was the truth. best ps2 game not made by hideo kojima

San Andreas the best open world game LOL

Have you played anything since San Andreas, or…?

Why is there a fucking Wikipedia article on the front page? And why is more than half of it bolded? Kinda makes the point of bolding redundant.

Something about a dreamcast games that make me want to play it once in a while and Shenmue is no exception.

San Andreas was alright.

I hate all the “gangsta’” pandering all these games do to cater to all the wannabe suburb thugs with too much time and money on their hands. Shenmue though, plays with a character I could identify with.

MvC2 came out more than ten years ago damn your math way off my dude
