10/4/08 - Portland OR - PSU Random Select: Fall Showdown

ideally i want to get down there Fri nite, tourney Sat, return late Sunday night or something

I still have one space in my car for someone not too fat…

Anybody that wants to stay at my place let me know.

hmm almost forgot about this. I’d like a ride or would like to carpool… anyone?

You could join Paul, myself, Alex, and Kosuke if you don’t mind riding with us kids in the STI. We still got room in the car, and an extra hand chipping some gas money is always a good thing.

hey guys- im planning on bringing my camera (video) and shooting the whole thing- I also have a smaller dv cam to plug in and help record matches as well.

I heard some mention about wanting something to use in the future for hyping up other events, and possibly getting sponsors ect. -Im trying to get more experience outside of the snowboard industry, and i want to make something quality- fun to watch whatever…

you guys got advice/ feedback?

Can you be more specific on what you want to accomplish with your recording? Are you trying to get matches or an overview of the tournament? Do you need to plan out your recording blocks to fit certain game schedules, and do you want to catch the most hype moments?

Just trying to figure out what you’re doing. I’m going to be capturing a lot of matches.

Long story short probably not going to homecoming.

SO i need to figure out a ride from Newberg to Portland :amazed:

taxi?

Some advice that I would give is that you should make an effort to interview people or get face to face conversation, cause a huge majority of the tournament will be people starring blankly at a TV screen.

We got a some great pictures at PNWMajors, but probably over 50% (or more) of them were pics of people looking intently at TV’s with little emotion. So while thats true to whats happening, you may have to go an extra mile to get stuff that is worth recording.

Zach has some great tips for recording matches that you should check out on his website. Make sure you eliminate the rolling lines when filming TV’s, announce who the players are at the start of the match, and which side they start on. Those are just a few I know. I always think its cool when you can see the players themselves after the match too, but thats just personal preference.

And make sure that, if any money matches are going down, to record those and any possible human interaction as BrentoBox said.

Not to mention tourney finals.

Heya cloudkap… that would be AMAZING. I always look forward to stuff to use to promote club events as well as the fighting game scenes in general - but I just heard that theres some video advertisement contests going for our club, so I was going to nab a video camera and record some of the hype that happens to use in some advertisements.

It is for our club and basically the prize is more funding to purchase more games / sticks / etc, but I would definitely appreciate someone filming that sort of thing.

im just gunna end up driving myself

I get off work at 11 on Saturday, so if anyone doesn’t mind getting there at 1 or so, I will split gas money. I know Paullee said he had room in his car.

If you guys want to carpool I am down for it.

im not coming back till Sunday night and i had planned to just leave Friday after work.

Trying to work out carpool details with some people, since the mexi-van stratagem went Von Schlieffen. A small car of us are planning to leave Seattle at noon. That is, if everything goes according to plan.

In the event that I don’t make it, I have a request. Would someone on the organizational staff please try to put the brackets and sign-up info (full names of players along with their SRK nicknames) for ST and MvC2 into the hands of a Seattle player so that they might find their way to me? I will be needing that info to input into zass’ ranking system.

If I do make it, will Voodoo doughnuts be provided? It has been many years since I’ve had one of those signature staked-doll confections. Inclusion of Voodoo doughnuts would give this event a Portland flavor.

Also, someone should try to meet up with Jetay (who said that he won’t be making it to the tournament) and try to get the copy of SF:AE that he accidentally left NWM with, and get it back into the hands of XTG. Unless those two have already worked out an arrangement.
