I have never, and will never do 70/20/10 for a decent size tourney. Might as well say winner take all. Now I have done 65/25/10 and 60/30/10 before. I’ve been using this payout since I started running the tourneys @ c3.
60/30/10 is pretty much the the 10-20 people payout.
Above that, and 1st place loses, what… 7 bucks? Not that big a deal when you’re walking out w/ over a 100.
Keep in mind the ONLY tourneys that consistantly go over 20 people (and thus payout 4th) are SSBM and 3S. This tourney may be different, since alot of people are traveling, but really the only 4th place fininshers for capcom tourneys that have been paid are in 3S. Hence the whole sliding scale rule.
DSP I see what you’re saying about a “slap in the face”, but that’s really only if you had aspirations to win and fell short. If you never placed before, that money’s awesome. You broke even! Yay! I know at NC i wasn’t expecting to get any prize money, so whatever I got was a bonus…
After I won it i was like, man… should have been 10$… and man… 70/20/10 is whack.
I didn’t want it to seem like I was crying when i brought this up, especially since it doesn’t really apply to me… I just thought it was something that needed to be exposed and now I can see from the response, it probably was. Sometimes you can just say what you got to say and it hopefully it can help make things right… whatever though, we can drop it for all I care… sometimes thats all you can do…

to what shawn said. i didnt make money in the tourneys at evo but i did make 200 betting on sanford. that was either my free room and board or free ticket. plus the poker winning = free evo!!

Well my whole point was and is it’s not even about the money. Nobody is trying to eat from these tournaments. it’s just like dsp said, a simple smack in the face. Maybe everyone else out there is wrong and this is the way we should payout. Or maybe the guy that comes all the way out here and wins 1st place deserves to get an extra 30-40 dollars, and maybe they’ll actually come back to the next one. Or maybe for anyone who needs validation(lol) they should get a door prize for coming in 4th or 6th placedoing the jerking off motion whats a good door prize?
At any rate if i get fourth place again I’m going to say to myself im pleasantly suprised with my play and this $12 shows that today was a good day. SCORE :tup: then Ill say, I wasnt going to come to the next one, but hey,this $12 made spending 12 hours in a building and a 3 hour trip all worth it. Yep thats what I came for.

I made my money at the blackjack tables, not on the convention room floor lets just put it that way.
I brought 500 spending cash, another 500 for flight, room, tourney entry, food, and I came back with 600.
But really, if you count all the free drinks and the girl I slept with…I broke even or was slightly ahead of the game…a free trip basically muhaha…ok not so much, but it beats my friend who lost over a grand on roulette…oh, roulette, what a worthless game…
