10/01/2017 Las Vegas Strip Shooting

Who the motherfuck invited Damned back to “moderate.”

We don’t need your fruit loop ass. Pertho is enough.

I’ll take UltraDavid or Po dimpus over Pertho for moderation. The Damned does a good job although he tends to post 600 words per post unlike you who post every other minute. Your job must be great

He’s moderating what needs no moderation. The thread was left to rock because no one was being overly assholeish or antagonizing. Yeah, this gun discussion rarely leads to conversion to a side, but at least we have been speaking respectfully to one another. There’s no reason for Damned to come in here and try to change topic simply because he doesn’t like where the topic led.

terrible tragedy :frowning:

Sigh. I’d ask if you must always be so acerbic and confrontational, but we all already know the answer to that. This is ironic given I agree with most of the points you have been raising with regards to guns.

For the record, I’m “fine” with gun control discussion in general even if it makes me roll my eyes. So my problem is less where it went and far more than it tends never goes anywhere. Additionally, as is too often the case, talking about gun control pretty much always overshadows what has happened to and what is still happening to victims of the various shootings that we are all too used to in America at this point, which is already an issue when the mass-shooter pretty much always gets more attention. I just think it’s pointless to talk about in here even if it makes sense, especially since you know that literally nothing is going to get done to improve this situation yet again given how fucking corrupt Congress is.

Ultimately, it was a polite request than a moderating demand that you stop talking about it at all; otherwise I’d be threatening infractions and bans and such. If everyone wants to keep talking about it in here, then so be it; I personally don’t think it will do any good, however civilly it happens, but I will refrain from commenting on it again so long as it remains as such. I just ask that (at least one of) you also update with news about the victims and/or shooter where possible, especially since you apparently have such free time and it shouldn’t be difficult given everything you personally have linked to already. I apologize for being overly cautious about potential political discussions around here even when they start civilly since it all it takes is one troll to derail a thread, though I don’t plan to be as forgiving as Pertho about that it should it happen in here.

Anyway, it seem that I was slightly mistaken earlier unfortunately: we are up to 59 people dead, though I’m still unsure whether that includes the shooter–it probably does.

No one back then envisioned people walking around with what they do now. The whole point in the law was to keep the government honest as well but that was before the government had Abrams battle tanks and F22s. It’s ridiculous how hard gun nuts want to cling onto their ARs.

I don’t get the people that think gun bans would suddenly stop terrorist attacks. not to mention, make them (America) “safe”.

I’m fine with people owning guns even if I don’t get the whole gun culture fetish, but let’s not act like if martial law ever went into effect, these little AR15s would hold a candle to what the US military has.

Actually one of the articles I read said they found gear to convert semi autos to fully autos. Apparently this guy was also a millionaire real estate investor as well.

No one thinks that. But you have to take steps in the right direction. Cant just sit still and do nothing. Law changes are a proper step.

Also I have a hard time thinking youre going to injure 500 people with knives or even a car.

The Nice truck attack killed 86 and injured over 200.

There hasnt been any mass shooting by one person that injured 500 people till now I think. Thats the benefit of having a fully auto weapon, 22000 people to shoot at, and the time to spare.

If you drove a ~20 tonne truck, like in Nice, through that same crowd, I would actually wager the results would be worse.

I agree.

If you search on YouTube then you will find a huge video list about guns. Lots of people have gun no doubt about that. But, they use those guns for hunting, shooting, etc not for killing people.
Actually, you cannot control 323 million people’s minds. Some people are mad and they do whatever they think. comment from.

I guess by putting the gun inside something inconspicuous.

Take the gun apart, put it in your bags and check in.

Hotels dont have metal detectors usually.

I like guns and I hope to purchase one someday but I’m willing to do what it takes to register and show I’m not a threat if I buy one. Accountability needs to be greatly enforced and it’s something we’re not doing.

He had a stablizing platform.

The rate of fire sounded like burst mode. He was firing indiscriminately from a good distance, but still needed control

Fuck this is fucked

Hotel security could change

Just wondering about getting into his texts and e-mails leading to this

I have no problem being in a database

Why the nra hates that one caveat is beyond me

Mad person decides to stab some people he doesn’t kill 50 of them. You can defend against a knife a hell of a lot easier than a bullet and you need to be closer to use it, not from the 30th floor of a hotel.

I’m not against practical firearms. Shooting for sport is one thing but people don’t shoot targets with LMGs. Shooting for pest control on a farm is necessary. Sustainable hunting is as ethical as any meat. Those activities don’t need ARs. People want ARs because they’re fun and they watch army films but they’re an unnecessary danger in society. If that loon had a bolt rifle or a shotgun he wasn’t killing all those people.

Again, it’s easier to set up bollards or put a barricade of patrol cars around an event than it is to stop every last possible sight line for a gun. Trucks are dangerous but no where near as flexible as a weapon of murder as a firearm.

If someone wants to commit murder it’s practically impossible to stop them. You can make toxic gas out of things in a grocery store. People need to cut food. Those things are no where near as easy to kill people with. Gun you point and shoot. Knife you need to have a certain level of physical competency, be in arms reach and hope they can’t defend themselves. Last I checked cars don’t work in hallways of school corridors.

UH…
but bears tho.
bears.
i know in NY state alone about a hundred bears are hunted and killed each year.

Because the usual anti government gun nut doesnt want to be in a government database. That gun nut is the NRA
