1 frame link combos

That’s timing. If you do a c.lp or c.lk, then plink mp or mk to quickly, the chain cancel takes priority over mk/mp.

If you’re in range, there’s nothing wrong with hitting mp~hp or hp~mp. Since c.hp is still 4 frames and all…

So to confirm; should I be inputting cr.lk, cr.lp, cr.mp, cr.lp (whilst still holdin down cr.mp) and then cancelling into the hado in order link the cr.lp to the cr.mp? And similarly to link a cr.lk, cr.lp, cr.hp > tatsu (possibly hado?) I’d input cr.lk, cr.lp, cr.mp, cr.lp (whilst still holding down cr.mp) and cancel that into whatever special? And is this a 1 frame link combo?

c.lk XX c.lp, c.hp~c.mp XX into special

The ‘~’ typically indicates pressing the first button and then the second button right after. Though with plinking, you must hold the first button while the 2nd is pressed. As the timing and dexterity required to press the first button for one, and only one, frame, then letting it go and pressing the 2nd button on the very next is so incredibly difficult, the distinction doesn’t tend to matter.

Plinking also benefits from possibly allowing a combo even if you did not succeed in the plink. So try not to worry too much about succeeding every single time, but be aware of the right method and feel of how to do it. You get used to the feel of it and you can easily do it correctly a dozen times in a row without trying too hard. At that point you can just start grinding out the timing.

c.lp, c.hp and c.lp, c.mp are 2 frame links. c.lp, c.mk is a 1 frame link. (For reference, c.hk has the same startup as c.mk.)

Plinking gives you an extra frame of leeway on top of that.

Man I still can’t do the OS theli. Why is it so hard for me to practice it? Timing for the dp is way off, I always do the dp when I land.

Just try to hit the button earlier in the jump. As long as you’re pressing the button before you see yourself land, and your jump-in isn’t connecting with the training dummy, it’ll be a valid OS. Then you just carry that same timing over for when you do expect to hit the dummy with the jump-in. Also be sure to release the button either before landing, or a while after. Negative edge can cause the dp to come out on a connected jump-in even though you pressed the button at the right time.

Have you reproduced the OS using the record option with the dummy? If you haven’t done that yet, then try it. It’ll help you better understand how it’s supposed to be done if you see the result of doing it yourself. Might take a few tries. But it should be worth it.

OS aren’t going to automatically make you good at street fighter. But if you’re already good, it could help make you better. If you’re not, then it’ll take some practice, experience, and a little introspection.

Dumb question…

would plinking help with combos like j.mk, c.lk, c.lp, c.lp, c.mk xx hado?

Not sure what the timing is between the last c.lp and the c.mk, but it seems different than if you only do 1 c.lp. Am able to get each combo around 80-90 % in training, but lower in matches. It would be nice to not eat so many reversals in matches. Have practiced the combo for a couple months, but still can’t get it 100%.

Its useful to p-link c.lp to c.mk. Timing just appear different but its the same weather you do 1, 2 or 3 c.lp prior c.mk.

Personnaly I dont get 100% even with P-linking. Dont really care to much since I dont use this combo anymore once I get a hit confirm, so when I use it, It will usually
be in the opponent gard so it wont matter to much.

i see 0 reason why you’d link c.lp to c.mk unless you are way too far and you REALLY REALLY REALLY NEED that extra damage.

more often than not, you wouldn’t even know you needed it and it’s too risky to go for it in most cases. you are already doing 3 shorts/jabs in your combo so it’s already scaling pretty bad to begin with…

as mentioned by shinuza long ago, learn to link into SRK and c.fierce.

only other link you really need to learn is link into c.rh.

personally here are the only links i use.

c.strong -> c.strong / c.forward / c.fierce / c.rh
anything -> srk / super
f+fierce -> c.fierce

i really don’t see a point of any other links

If you manage to get a hit, you can throw in a c.hp in there too for extra damage. So c.lk, c.lp, c.hp xx srk … I have a tendency to do tatsu but SRK is more damage. I think SRK lands everytime c.hp lands. Trying to retrain my brain on this one. I saw my friend doing c.lk, c.lp, c.hp xx ex tatsu and I knew that was a waste. SRK is what you should do.

However, if you’re not hit confirming like on the first hit, say you hit your jab from far away or something, you’re going to want to link into c.mk. Plinking is definitely a technique to pick up. Just hit c.mk and c.lk almost instantly together.

One thing I do, and I don’t know if it helps or not, is when I plink fierce buttons, I use all three buttons. Like linking c.lp to c.hp, I hit HP, HP+MP, HP+MP+LP … It seems like technically that would give you an extra frame and nobody talks about it in that thread the last time I read it. Whenever I check my inputs in training though, it never comes out that pretty =\ Also, jabs might come out which is better than missing it entirely!

Don’t forget that c.mp is a nasty poke. c.mp links into c.mp and c.hk so (c.mp, c.mp, c.hk) is very doable. That is a nasty ass combo for something so simple. If you can hit confirm a counter hit, the c.mp c.hk link is easy peasy. Don’t forget to plink the c.hk!

Oh btw, you’re gonna learn fast that you need to learn your spacing on c.mk xx hado. If you land c.mk and the hado is blockable, that means its also punishable. (ie ultra, fadc forward dp / throw, etc).

You listed crouching strong into crouching forward. That’s the same link as crouching jab to crouching forward, yet you say it’s too risky. I’m assuming that is based on the sole fact that the damage is being scaled more makes it too risky? If you see people spamming dp right here and stuffing your mk. Bait the dp next time.

He’s got a point though, you’re probably linking crouching forward from crouching strong not crouching jab. Crouching jab into crouching strong is easier than crouching jab into crouching forward (by 1 frame) so you’re best doing something like c.lp c.mp c.mk xx hado. If your distance is too far to land the fireball, go for crouching round house instead of mk xx fireball. Plus you get a tasty knockdown.

you are absolutely right. both c.jab and c.strong gives +5 on hit so it’s the same link. however, i listed that for two reasons: 1. scaling as you mentioned, 2. f+fierce, c.strong, c.strong, c.forward combo on chun/blanka/i forgot as it adds a lot more damage/stun and looks sexy as hell.

i almost never use it though, but just thought i’d include it in there as i do use it 1/1000 cases i have to link :slight_smile:
