Where did you read/hear about this option-select? I don’t really see how it can work.
I don’t think this is true. You’ll attempt a throw regardless of what state they’re in because throwing has higher priority than lk.

If you’re standing then LP+LK = throw.
The option select is LP+LK while holding db. If you’re crouching and press LP+LK then you’ll get cr.LK. That’s how the option select works.
It’s easy enough to test - just get someone to throw you and try it. You have to press it within 7 frames after they grab you though. Too soon and they’ll throw you out of the startup of your cr.LK, too late and they’ve thrown you already…
I know about that, but the OP and the response were referring to holding back, not DB. You can’t throw from a crouching position.
yep it’s incorrect, i’ll go back and fix it

I just made the jump from G3-A to G2-E on PC and feel way out of my league. I think G3 softened me up with the sea of Ryus and Kens where you could dictate what they would do next and watch them do it. I haven’t seen a single Ryu or Ken yet in G2 and I’ve become weaker at countering other characters.
Any training advice or ideas?
Just continue playing. I felt like that too, and now I’m beating people regularly, and I’m at around 3.5k points.
Haha, I’m in the same boat as you. Just entered G2, and I haven’t won a championship yet! I’m loving it though, I finally get to see a bit of skill instead of Ryu’s, Kens and Sagats just mashing DP all day. Characters like Rufus, Fei and Claw beat me hard, but only because I don’t yet fully understand how to play against them. It’s only a matter of time, though…
Glad to have had a part in the creation of this thread. im always willing to help newbies out. you guys are de future. someones gotta be J-money when J-money is 40
well me i have a different kind of question then gameplay. and i cant make a new thread and didnt see anything about (specificly) what i need.
its regarding DDS and EMB
first of all, getting DAT from offzip dosnt work for everyone that easy “dosnt for me”
never the less, quikbms.exe worked like a charm
altho i can get the EMB with ease, i have questions about it
1- i extracted the 4 DDS textures of Gouki EMB"test skin" now they are on a folder on my desktop and havent changed nothing yet. i have both versions in my folder just in case (4x DDS and 4x BMP) of akuma. my question is “wich wasnt on the main tutorial” how do we edit them? i mean how do u change for exemple, is dark blue pants to red? theres browns on the pants wich would change too if i use hue/saturation… lets pretend i dont want it to change…
is there a specific way to color ? or i just use the marquee tool , circle the parts i wanna change and apply colors or textures over the part? i havent found a section that talks about how exacly we color skins using photoshop and how applying textures (designs on the clothings etc)
2- my second question is a little redirection help.
after my 4 DDS have been changed the way i like and saved, since quikbms.exe can only extract DDS from EMBs how to i repack my 4 DDS into 1 EMB? AND since infuser dosnt work with EMBs how to i get to finaly have a GKI_01_01.col.emz without the use of Infuser and offzip ??
3- this question is for people who want to save 20 minutes, and help me fix my offzip prob.
Why dosnt offzip.exe works for me after i done everything correctly ?
why do it tell me 1 file have been loaded (did not say i got errors) when there is nothing but dust in the folder i created? is it due to my windows 7 64bit ? and i checked many many offzip topics and none answered fix to my issues.
id like some help please, i am moding sounds and i wanna start doing skins now. oh and the reason i type alot on this reply is because i want to make shure i give u as much details as possible so i dont get 300 different replys of things ive already done or tried
heres what i did for offzip command:
-added the offzip.exe in gouki folder
-created a folder named gkitest in gouki folder as well
opened command and typed: offzip.exe -m 16 -a -z -15 GKI_01_01.col.emz gkitest 0
tells me that a block as loaded and folder is empty. if i can manage to find whats going on, ill be happy.
TYVM to the persons willing to try to help me. sry for typos
PS: if this isnt a proper place to post this, tell me, ill edit and paste at the right place, tho i think this is (We have one thread where we are free to ask whatever question and we get replies from more knowledgeable people) dont be rude plz today is my bday =P =P
Happy Birthday!
You’ll probably have more luck if you re-post your question in the modding SF4 for PC thread since it’s specific to that topic.
Great thread, Ive been having issues w/ this and was wondering if anyone has a video of someones hands doing the piano key motion for quick rapid fire like whats used w/ gen and chun for quick fingers/legs for combos. Can’t seem to get the timing right maybe watching someone do it would help?
what’s the frame difference between blocking while crouching versus standing?
If I’m looking at a chart that tells how much block stun is given on a particular move, does this apply to crouching or standing?
or is it the same? I think I’ve seen posts that suggest blocking high versus blocking low in order to reduce frame advantage against certain moves. Is this true?
There is no frame difference between blocking while standing or crouching, the block stun is the same regardless of your stance.
Having said that, certain moves may hit you later in the active frames if you block low rather than high, which is analogous to hitting someone with a meaty on wakeup. Since you are hit later while crouch blocking, this would increase the frame advantage in your opponent’s favor. Any type of move with a hitbox that goes high to low, such as a dive kick, would exhibit this type of behavior, but I am not aware of any cases where the change in frame advantage makes a difference.
Also, in previous games such as cvs2 and 3s, it actually took you a frame to stand up from crouching. In some cases, that one (or however many) frame(s) was enough to make certain moves only punishable while standing. An example of this in cvs2 was ken’s f+s.hk vs a blocked blanka ball.
Thanks! That makes a lot of sense.
The thing I had in mind was using Sagat to punish Blanka’s EX-Ball. If you block the EX-Ball standing, you can punish with a EX-Tigershot. But if you’re crouching, you can’t.
It just didn’t make sense to me why this was the case. Thanks for the explanation. Also, you mentioned that in the old games, it takes 1 frame to stand up. Does that apply to SF4?
General question: at what point do you pick up a secondary character? Should you even do this, instead of learning your main inside and out?
Japanese players for the most part pick one character and stick to it, are there any good JP players that use multiple characters?
Momochi’s an Akuma and Ryu Grandmaster; Kindevu’s a Viper and Rufus Grandmaster.
Don’t worry so much about what Japanese players do though.
It’d be reasonable to assume it does, but I am not completely sure, so that’s why I didn’t mention it. The easiest way to test is to see if you can jump out of Gief’s Ultra post flash, from a crouching position.
A Gief player would be better able to tell you.
I need some assistance.
This has been going on for awhile now, but now its just frustrating.
For the past few months everytime I have been able to upload a replay in G1 it won’t actually save it to Capcom’s server.
Example. I won a championship today… clicked upload. UPLOADING flashed on the screen. I went to leaderboards to see if it uploaded and it didnt. My old replay which is lower in championship points by 50k is still attached to my name, but even then I can’t view that one. It says “unable to receive data” or something like that.
However when I go into my Championship data screen to see wins/loses it shows my highest championship point win.
So… I think I am bugged… has anyone ever experienced this? If so… how did they fix?
I wasn’t able to post this in general SF4 discussion because I need a min of 50 post first.
I figured since I was a fellow ken player I would be able to get some answers. If anybody can please help me with this it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
p.s. My Original replay was 600k… my new champ win was almost 700k and it did give me the option to UPLOAD… I accepted the upload and it flashed on the screen per usual.
Went to the leaderboards to check my new replay and it wasn’t there…my old replay was there and even then I can’t watch it. Gives an error. I am running on xbox has anybody seen this before?
what you don’t wanna play when you are 40?? I’m 25 right now, already too old to be playing video games as far as I am concered but I still do it! Why not when I’m 40? I wonder if my old hands will be able to do dash cancels.
there is no such thing as too old. I am 28, and I have been told by fucking 14 year olds that I am an old man, and shouldn’t be playing games…wtf???
I’m gonna be 70, wearing crazy virtual reality gear, and throwing real life fireballs at people.
