If capcoms idea with AE is to make it a more offensive game than the cast needs more than just buffs. How do you balance someone like sim in an offensive game? Give him 130 damage fierce punches full screen? He would destroy people while playing defensively. Buffing everyone has never worked and isnt going to work here. Yeah, i guess you can give everyone big damage and mixups, but than we’re playing marvel. You basically want everyone on an even playing level and we all do, but its next to impossible.
This is nowhere near the same situation. We’ve been tinkering with our characters for years now since vanilla. We’ve had SF4, SSF4, and now AE. Not to mention we have a crap ton of footage of all three games, endless theory fighter discussions, etc. I’m pretty sure we’re running out of things to discover, if there are anything left.
Even if we buff every character besides Yun/Yang/Fei, how do you plan on going about doing that? You’d have to give every character a major rehaul, as well as giving them good options to shut down dive kick spam. As of right now, not many characters even have a good crouch tech option select to cover dive kicks, nevermind having good, safe normals to stop dive kicks during footsies. And not to mention you have to give each character worthy normals to stop random EX Lunge, but at the same time, not make their normals so shitty and slow that they can be eaten up by Yun’s st.MP all day.
Buffing everybody HAS worked (GGAC comes to mind), and it rarely happens because it takes more creativity to buff bad characters than it does to simply take things away. Nerfing everybody NEVER works; take a look at the rebalanced versions of SFA2/3 and CVSPro. Nobody played them because everybody sucked, so it wasn’t any fun.
Yun is fine. He has plenty of bad fights, and you have to be on point with your execution to take him to that higher level. There are a couple of things that need nerfing, but mass nerfs to the top tier have ALWAYS resulted in a game that’s simply not fun enough to put effort into.
