Dam that is awful lol
i was playing a bison today and my c mk was eating him up when ever he try to do kick shenanigans to keep me away…im going to test this out on more bisons and see if this works on chun…
Absolutely, that is the way to build meter…But not as jngyuynenen75278782 suggests, which is getting a precious knockdown and then walking away to spin around for meter.
@Macarratti- Thank you, my troll-dar was going off but I ignored it just because I had to voice how stupid that suggestion was. Almost legendary.
@Metrokard- I am finding against Bison c.mk is pretty ok as a meaty too, alhough it isn’t safe and that should be noted. OS s.lp/c.lk xx EX-GH is absolutely worth throwing out there for if you can tag his s.mk or s.hk.
Jnguyen. you can call ME ugly, you can call ME a bully all day long. I don’t care, since I have been the one to reply to many of your posts. I will even admit that I have been a little hard on you at times (internet fuckwad theory applies to everyone. that includes me).
But if you sit there and make a gross and insulting generalization of ANY group of players, then you sir have lost any and all mercy that you might have recieved from me. there are good, GOOD people that play Hakan and Zangief, and any other character for that matter. I have met some salty/ rude kens and akumas in my time, but you will NEVER hear me claim that those characters’ players as a whole are any less respectable than any one else.
so you can argue, insult and troll ME all you want. I can and I will take it. but you shut your mouth about everyone else.
I wash my hands of this silliness.
Is there any way to cross-up deejay? i feel like he’s pretty much impossible to crossup due to his ridicolous auto correct bullshit.
I haven’t played this matchup recently but I remember with meter he seems really un-jumpable on wakeup because his EX-Upkicks are great against Gief. I found that pressuring him on the ground with GH to c.lp or c.lk or even meaty c.mk worked really well.
Pick u2 keeps him from doing it if they know what’s up but they all use it the first time for sure. So u2 good wake up option vs dj. I also empty
jump full screen sb’s they can’t punish with slide.
Anybody else been able to solve Honda? I play against StreakSRM pretty regularly and he has imo a solid Honda and when I win I don’t feel like it’s me earning the win I feel more as though he’s making mistakes kind of like unforced errors in Tennis. I played MR SNK yesterday and got handled big time.
I know the simple stuff like Lariat beating headbutt trying to time standing roundhouse underneath nj. fierce (which isn’t as reliable as I’d like). It seems like Honda with nj. fierce and jesus chop can wreck my shit.
What are you guys doing against good Honda players to secure the W? Even when I build some sort of life lead it’s always in jeopardy it seems cause Honda is one good normal or a little bit of pressure away from stealing the lead back and then it’s back to climbing the mountain.
The match feels like a worse version of Gief/Boxer. Where it’s all baiting the person into doing something punishable then running away only Honda’s pressure and offense to regain the life lead is stronger and arguably so is his defense. It just seems like Boxer is much easier to punish.
You should use standing HK vs NJ fierce. That said, I very recently got raped by LordDVD. Worst drubbing in recent memory.
Alot of hondas do nj fierce too close to you you can AA lariet them out of this. I have trouble with henery cen’s honda but he’s much better than me so I would have trouble with his dan. I feel you can really mix Honda up really badly and throw u2 into th mix and short fake cross kness if you don’t think they are going to butt slam. If you do meaty splash then block spd the butt slam.
How do I keep peope grounded? All day neutral jumping and jump back over and over. Everyone character has a nj attack that stuffs lariatt and I feel like everyone knows it and beats me so FUCKING LAME!!! I can’t keep anyone from jumping around all day long. What do I do. roundhouse only seems to work ever so often. I whiff it and get punished mostly. Gief is fun but frustrating the crap outta me right now. Some one please help
If you’re whiffing Lariat you’re crouching and throwing it out too Early. Wait and it should at least trade which gives you the knockdown and forces your vortex 50/50. If people repeatedly bunny hop you can time it so that you hit them with stuff like EX Hand s.RH j.RH and time their descent for a j.FP into combo. In general if people are doing nothing but bunny hopping while it’s frustrating to look at you should really sit back and just remember that if they’re that predictable you have the advantage. One knockdown and they should start jumping again which makes them easy prey for headbutt on wakeup also.
Specific counters to bunny hopping are character dependent but your should really practice AA lariat if they do it while you’re in range. And if nothing else you just punish them for being predictable. A large part of playing Gief is that people will play in ways that they typically don’t because they’re afraid of a command grab. To counter that you have to learn to play Gief without the grabs and use the threat of them to make people do things they don’t want to do to set up your vortex. Training mode could help with this. Have the bot repeatedly jump and practice your counters. Eventually it will become almost second nature and you’ll just grin and lick your chops when you see an idiot jumping up and down wildly.
ok thanks man. So if I’m trying to AA with lariat it needs to be from a crouching position? Do i use ppp lariat or kkk lariat?
Do Giefs use his double knee press(down+lk) to crossup? The timing is pretty strict compared to splash. If I see it, should I expect it to crossup? It also seems harder to combo.
Do Giefs even really use it at all?
Ha do giefs use knees I love knees so much it hurts there is like 0 block stun from knees so you can command grab really quick afterwards. Also knees stuffs almost everything.
For jumpers you need to get good at aa lariet. This means crouching till there in hit range of the lariet and hitting ppp. This beats or trades with all jumpins and nj attacks if timed and spaced right less a very few exceptions. Also after the trade ex green hand for extra damage. aa lariet is key to getting to mid level with gief if you don’t have that down your a sitting duck.
Yeah I got it now, just kinda scary at first cause you have to wait to they are almost hitting you. njers though I usually just block once and if they jump again I c.mp them. and once they stay grounded if they nj I block then SPD. Is that right? Or should I just be trying to trade lariat? By the way thanks for the help.
If people are neutral jumping, just stand there and build meter with kick lariat. You can long sweep under the nj nonsense.
You can AA lariat most neutral jump attacks. Some though, like Adon’s and Sakura’s nj.HK, are tricky (Actually, I don’t think it works on Adon at all) so you gotta be aware of which characters you’re fighting. Like BP said, you gotta get AA lariat down. It pretty much stops people from jumping at you altogether, and if they do it’s most likely a safe jump attempt to bait a lariat. And if you’re expecting it, free SPD.
I can’t speak on the match-up as a whole - not really qualified -but I usually c.rh against honda’s nj.fp…I have a MUCH better success rate than with s.rh.
- :bluu:
I probably have more experience v Honda than any other character. My strategy against nj.Fierce includes the following:
- Blocking (duh) in part to get them more comfortable with landing closer to you. It’s fade away nj.Fierce that really ruins your day.
- cr. forward>spd (any flavor)
- Sweep.
- Early(ish) ex GH to catch them just before they land.
- AA.lariat rarely works if they’re any good at spacing/timing but sometimes I’ll chuck it out if I feel they’re too close.
I’ve occasionally had success with very early air-to-air fierce or roundhouse but it’s basically a guess and is only worth trying if you’re sure they’ve got no charge.
Fade away nj.Fierce beats pretty much everything I’ve listed but it doesn’t put as much pressure on you as they can’t follow up with hands safely so if they insist on doing fade aways I’ll let them and slowly work them towards the corner with cr.forward or similar (they’ll have charge if they’re fading away though, bear that in mind).
For a while I was convinced that ultra 2 was the pick for this matchup. Technically it should stop nj pressure and it also shuts down headbutt/buttsplash anti airs. Lately I’ve been using ultra 1 more because it’s depressing as hell to do a near-perfect ultra2 to anti air their nj only to have them fade away from the miniscule hitbox, and using it against headbutts etc is mostly a guess.
Once they’re knocked down I think gief has a pretty big advantage so long as you’re good at timing safe jumps (auto-correct headbutts suck!). I’ve developed a fondness for nj.Fierce safe jumps as revenge.
Of course this is my first post so feel free to take it all with a grain of salt
