hey quick question do u know the technique on how to do u2 right of the ground instantly i would greatly appreciate it
Buffering it. This means you spin the stick or pad while giefs doing something else. You can do this from being knocked down or while jumpin, dashing or into a normal or special move. Then right after the moves over when you start to pop off the ground hit kkk and U2 will pop.
Regarding Training mode, what are some good exercises I can practice with gief in training mode? My routine has been to pretty much practice cr lp, cr lp, lk, ex Gh and a few of its variants (Still working on cr lk links) and cr lk buffer into 720. I’ve gotten both down pretty well and I want to work towards a few new things that are PRACTICAL in a match.
Give me some ideas guys, what do yall usually practice or is essential to learn with Gief?
Walking max range spd. Also be able to anti air any jump attack. Tick throws.
hey guys quick question i’ve seen many zangiefs do far standing light kick into ex green hand is that option select or is it just reactions thanks
Go to pages 1-3, Worstgiefever explains the process very well (in video as well)Helped me a ton gettin that o-s consistant.
thanks man
I’m new to gief and i wanted to know a few things.
- How come when i lariat with geif it doesn’t always anti air, i get beat clean alot of the time. Is there a certain timing i should learn?
- How often should a gief jump, only when necessary or not at all?
- Any tips on how to get the spd shortcut motion and ultra more consistently, i find that when im in a high pressure situation i either get a jumping jab or when i make a good read for ultra 2 it doesn’t come out.
- Should i start out by trying to win with only footsies and combos and then start working in os and spds?
-
You need to crouch and then press PPP as late as possible.
-
It totally depends on your opponent. If you don’t respect their antiair or they don’t respect ranges where they shouldn’t throw fireballs, jump and hit them. The best idea to keep in mind is: Never jump if you don’t have a good idea of what is going to happen, always have purpose with your actions.

Practice. Assuming you understand the 270 shortcut.

OS is perhaps the least important and should be worked on last, but all of those other factors are very important to gief’s gameplan. I’d say if you think you are lacking in a specific aspect play some games or start a lobby focusing on that aspect specifically to improve. Later, just play normally to see how it affects your overall play.
I have seen people follow-up the EX-GH with PPP Lariat… how ? I can only followup with the kick Lariats.
From what i remember gief could meaty 7 frame and up attack. I was not able to do it against gouken’s ex hurricane kick after a knockdown. Can someone confirm it works. Thanks.
Gief’s cr. jab has 6 frames of recovery, so that is the only attack that can meaty a reversal with a 7 frame startup. Rather tough timing to do though if you aren’t going off of a setup in my opinion. Cr. lk can meaty 8 frame reversals.
Thanks…its crazy hard to do it…
Yeah I totally agree, the 1 frame meaty timing isn’t really that worth it in SF4 for the effort if you don’t have a setup like say Hawk.
I cant find a way to put more pressure on my friends gouken after a knockdown. He guess rigth 80% of the time. When i try throw he jump or do ex kick. When i try to meaty or splash i get countered. Etc.
Is there a decent guide to Gief’s normals and footsie potential anywhere around here?
So this place is pretty dead, huh.
A guide? Not that I know of, but it’s not like it’s that hard. Just watch a couple video’s of each of the top gief’s and see how they apply each of his normals.
so after some training experiments i managed to blizzard viper’s dp on block so i wondered…
anyone ever tried to have success with U2’ing dp’s , upkicks , and other attacks that put the opponent airborne?
or do we normally just go off the “if you think they are gonna do it , just beat them to the punch” theory ?
cause you can pretty much U2 any dp or upkick medium strength and up on block if you buffer after you’ve engaged the block.
How should I counter backdashing as a Gief? Smart opponents often backdash after my jumpins, on wakeup, during my blockstrings. I know about jab-sweep option select, but it’s too slow against decent backdashes (or maybe I’m not doing it correctly). Should I just guess with green hand or is there another way?
