In staring matches, the best thing you can get is a walk up SPD. It will really make your opponent think twice about doing a lot of things. Don’t sacrifice a lifelead for something like this as it’s pretty risky.
As for SPD meaning everything. It just doesn’t, really you should be focusing on footsies for damage and space.
I haven’t really devoted a lot of time to practicing it, but I did get one out in practice. Thing is, I think my arm just twitched because I got these inputs:
:f::df::d::db::u::f::df::d::db::lp::mp::hp:
I’ve never been able to hit a true standing 720 on stick again with any type of inputs though, and I can’t really see going from to :u: to :f: fast enough consistently to be able to use it in match.
One simple question: Is unthrowable lariat still on the game? I remember in vanilla you could cancel the first jump frames into lariat and make it invencible to throws, I guess it´s not the case anymore but just making sure.
Did the unthrowable frames carry over in Vanilla? I was under the impression that you were just unthrowable during the prejump frames before cancelling into a special (ie. as soon as lariat started you were throwable again, but you could have made their throw whiff before it started). Otherwise, it would’ve made all SPD’s functionally throw invincible
Yeah I don’t see how you can remove the unthrowable frames on jump-cancelled lariat without making Zangief’s prejump throwable - which would lead to all types of hilarious abuse - or making his prejump unable to be cancelled by lariat.
Protip: If you’re trying to do a jump-cancelled lariat on wakeup and you see a reversal, that means you didn’t get it. If you lariat on the first frame possible, you didn’t jump.
Is there a compendium of things a Gief HAS to do? For example, matchup specific punishes, advanced execution, shortcuts? Or will I need to sift through and compile this info myself?
is there a list somewhere with the frame advantages on gief’s untechable knockdowns (spd, ex spd, suplex, rbg, universal throws, sweep, longsweep) including chars that wakeup early/late? and how many frames is gief’s jump?
Im having problems aginst people who use neutral jump say like.
(cr.lp cr.lp Jumping neutral Mk) When i try to do my lariat it gets punished or for another instance after i land a ex green hand they do a neutral jump and my lariat gets punished by a neutral jump mk or any attack for that matter. Am i doing my lariat to early? please help
If you do a well-timed EX Green Hand it should be free from that range I think. Far s.hk helps against neutral jumps as well. And if you can get them to whiff you can SPD them as they land often.
On the subject of far ST.hp - has anyone tried to use it as an option select in slow backdashes? I remember in one mirror match I backdashed on wakeup and the other guy did ST.hp and hit me. Not sure if it was guaranteed.
So you guys do cr.lpX2, st.lk to EXGH as a combo. I do it too but I’m trying to get cr.lkX3 to EXGH and cr.lkX2, st.mp, st.lk to EXGH down.
But question is, can you o-s f.cr. hk (long distance sweep) into cr.lk? Because I tried doing it and failing so far and I think it’s because cr.lk to cr.lk is a link not a chain. If not, how do you guys handle backdashes with the cr.lk bnb combo?
