Zangief has some rrally strong stuff, but I think he needs every last bit of it

I’ve been using it myself a lot as well.
But when u think about it, it’s not all that useful (except for ex imo):

  • It’s reactable with practice
  • It’s interruptable
  • It has a lot of recovery and is easy punishable by back jumpers

If you’re going to tick grab, u might as well follow up the st.lk with an LP SPD. They’re unreactable and safer from back jumpers.

Sorry if this has been answered someone else in this thread, but can anyone tell me what attribute buffs, if at all, does Zangief get when he’s in V-Trigger mode?

For example: Does he have higher stamina? Does his attacks deal more damage? Etc. Etc.

The only buff he gets, as far as I know, is that he can absorb an unlimited amount of hits while doing his V-skill.

Crazy idea. What if his V-Trigger acted like a health bar? It still drains slowly but damage taken is deducted from the timer instead of his normal health. Makes you want to start parrying with V-Skill and bulldog your way in as much as possible and goes along with the “Iron Body” theme.

His VT should give him faster walkspeed like Birdie. I think that would make me less salty when people just backdash and jump back all day -__-

I haven´t seen an accurate frame data yet, do we know how much is his V skill flex on block?

About the lp spd being too good if you could get a heavy mixup/crossup I dont know, I´m not even asking fot that to be the case just to be closer and having more options. I was playing Birdie up to rank 100ish and every single Zangief I faced had to lose 40% of his life bar and suffer a lot to get in. The moment I got spd’d it was more a relief than an actual punish because I could just recover and control the neutral game again. Maybe this is going to be a matchup specific issue but it feels terrible that you can´t even dash and press a button when you land one.

You’re thinking about this the wrong way. If Gief’s V-trigger was ‘move opponent to the corner’, it would be awesome. In its current state, thats exactly what it does.

There were some kara-throws, but they removed them all.
Kara-throws= exploits, and exploits shouldn’t exist in a competitive game.

it’s entirely possible that useful kara cancels into specials are still in the game, I don’t think anyone tested for it.

I think he means that the opponent can’t push buttons against Zangief while’s his in V-trigger, and since his V-trigger lasts so long, it generally forced the opponent to back up into a corner.

Can someone explain why this is “lol” or wrong? aren’t kara throws exploits?

It is LOL and wrong because if it was true, SFIV as of the last 7 years would not be able to exist as it does. The game is so based on exploits that people wire select buttons to their Sanwa buttons just to take advantage of one of the exploits more effectively. Yet, it’s all fair game in tourney.

The only thing he said right was that kara throws are exploits. Everything else is paranoia over things that have been allowed in competitive fighting games for eons.
