Youā€™ve singlehandedly ruined this topic. Well, I wonā€™t say singlehandedly. There are some honorable mentions regarding users complaining about the most petulant things. And Iā€™m not even talking about the guy talking about valid concerns and criticisms regarding Gief. Those are fine and are all a natural part of discussion. But that other shit needs to stop.

I think Zangief as he is now is alright. Just increase the range and damage of meterless SPD. His game in every SF iteration is all about making the other guy being afraid of being arms length from him and making mistakes. From what I can see, I donā€™t think he has that threat with that kind of SPD range and damage. In SF2 and SF4, you have to be crazy to stand still when heā€™s within st.mp reach.
I donā€™t mind him not having green hand, but with backdashes the way they are (SF2 and SFA has no backdash, so having a short ranged green hand is bearable), thereā€™s no other move to punish backdashers or even at least narrow the distance. I predict fast characters with good backdashes (or even worseā€¦walljumps! Hello Rasheed, Vega, Chun Liā€¦) are going to be a pain in the ass to fight for the big guy.

His SPD damage is fine, its does more damage than any other command grab with the exception of Mika powered up past level 2 (which is never going to happen in a real match).

p.s. no invincibility on backdash in SFV, just f.hp or sweep or basically anything

Looks like EX SPD will leave the other character too far to keep the pressure if they quick rise, so the tradeoff for being able to combo into it itĀ“s quite big against some characters. It also looks like his fwd HP is gonna be the go-to meaty attack to keep the enemy grounded since it can combo into so many stuff on meaty.

I wonder how good is EX RBG gonna be against proyectiles or long range pokes since it has one hit of armor and itĀ“s so fast in this game. Maybe you can use it as a ghetto green hand in some situations.

Found out that Gief can do two cr. lks into CA. Pretty cool.

I see people are already using it like meatsquasher quite effectively (far ticks, just doing it raw etc). At leastā€¦ I think it is effective. Either that or people arenā€™t used to reacting to it yet.

Against fireballs, I think the effective way is still neutral jumping over them or doing his V skill or maybe headbutting it at a distance. As fast as it is, I donā€™t think a shotoā€™s fireball recovery is THAT long.

in the a few videos that were posted rbg was used as a wake up reversal so i was wondering the same thing about it being a punish for fire balls.

Videos are still not using correctly the v-skill, and nobody ever uses air spd I think.

Maybe they just suck but me thinks we need more time with new gief.

SPDs do too little damage anyway.

RBG looks very situational. Will prolly not be as good as Hugoā€™s running grab, but doesnā€™t look gimmicky either.

Do we know what the startup is on SPDs and RBG?

Iā€™m the only who will like CA/Ultra to lose combability (or being possible to combo but very situational) bu deal ridicolous dmg like U1 in vanilla?

Have Gief with kinda average dmg ultra but easy to comboā€¦ idk sound just not Gief style, another thing that IMHO weaken the archetype (not the character chance of being good) and flat him with other characters, like not extreme health advantage or huge throws dmg

And again, itā€™s not pray for buffs
If anything i honestly think as competitive pov Gief that can combo from normals into ultra is stronger

My point is that i will like it more if was as unique/extreme as Vanilla Gief, just as personal preference

You must be crazy. Super does not scale in combos, including guts(not sure if this has changed in laura build)

Jump hp/hk, cr. mp xx super
Fwd + hp, cr. mp xx super
Cc hp, cr. mp xx super
Maybe even, cc hp, fwd + hp, cr. mp xx super(doubt this is possible)

All of those are scary dmg plus stun. Watch how quickly your opponent start playing safe when you have 3 bars worth of meter.

Even simple hit confirms:

Cr. lk, st. Lk xx super
Cr. lp, cr. lp xx super

Also note, it looks like he has time to setup a simple 50/50 after the super. This is all theory crafting at best, but saying you want less options, seems crazy to me. Though an extra fierce or 2 of dmg is nothing to scoff at.

Yes it works but the damage is terrible for spending all 3 ex bars
I would rather simply get into EXSPD for consistant combos afterwards

Is Fwd HP>Cmp>EXSPD/Super confirmed?

Doing a 720 out of two lights is some impressive stuff. I donā€™t think his super will be used much because you canā€™t beat the utility of buffered cr.mp and hitconfirms.

Zangief got a bit gimped on the motion change. Still 360ā€™s and 720ā€™s.

I know some people will swear up and down they prefer that motion, but seriously, Laura has a fireball motion for her SPD and Gief has a 360.

I prefer the SPD just because you can do the motion in either direction. It just ends up being done as hcb, ub or hcf,uf anyway.

720 is another story. It doesnā€™t seem justified for him to need to do a 720 for his grab super in this game. Generally in the past I figured the 720 motion was justified by the fact that you werenā€™t supposed to be able to just throw it out any old time easily i.e walk forward and just do it. In exchange it tended to do a bit more damage than other supers.

In this game it seems about the same damage as the other higher damage supers. Seems like it should either do more damage orā€¦preferably since people will be comboing into it now, just be qcb, qcb.

Then again it might be changed too. Mikaā€™s was hcb, hcb and changed to qcb, qcb so itā€™s a possibility.

Well, this thread was fun to skim through considering Iā€™ve never seen that much bitching since smash was added to evoā€¦ The fuck guys, things keep getting changed every couple of weeks. Chill theyā€™re gonna make Gief good

He looks interesting, some tweaks on his damage levels and maybe SPD range and I can see him being a nightmare.
He got some interesting tools tho, armor normal, hopkick, air SPD, ground headbutt, launching Kick, comboable grabs, armor up the wazoo, a v-trigger that pulls them in (!).

Tbh I was hoping to see some SFxT Gief ideas being implemented, armored grab that you can hold, delay or cancel was some serious shit. Jumping was so scary against him in that game coz of that (alongide tag cancelled Lariat into some crazy damage but you get the pointā€¦).
Hopefully his v-skill can get a similar effect maybe? Like how fast do you recover once you absorb a hit if you donā€™t do the walk and flex? Say you use the v-skill on mikaā€™s dropkick, do you recover fast enough to spd punish? What about up-close fireballs? Jump-ins? Is it throwable?
