What I mean by gutted is that he played so well against a tough Chun that he had a life lead and the SPD not killing felt more like an insult. what made it worse is that Stupendous knew he had to go for the kill and ate that FB into EX leg for his trouble as well as the follow up after.
All that work and it still wasn’t enough, and yet they say it’s not the character it’s frustrating to watch and listen.
Daigo knew the mu plain and simple. Gief is the only character that has to guess on offense and defense and good players will exploit that pretty easily once you know what to look out for. Plus we’re totally free on wakeup and once everyone realizes that it’s only gonna get worse if that’s even possible smh.
I hardly ever use it. I’m trying to implement it more but I just don’t think it’s that good and we take way too much white life.
Also I heard the great Combofiend say on CPT last night that Rogs dash punches are all -4 so now we can’t even spd blocked dash punched now lol. It never ends.
Both those options are not really good choices imo. Aa’ing with air spd is really impractical unless you know for sure they’re gonna jump but reacting to a jump with it is nearly impossible. It’s somewhat better when you have them in the corner because players seem to get jump happy trying to get out but if you’re gonna aa just use st.jab. Lariat and cr.hp would be your other options but they’re not that great.
The lariating of raw fireballs is just totally impractical and when will someone throw a fireball at that range anyway? If you whiff then you’re eating a sweep or a big punish. Just block, headbutt, or v-trigger. Lariating a fireball between a cr.mk-fireball string is a different story though.
Call me crazy but I think Gief would have benefited if his Air SPD was a DP motion. Also how much recovery does the move have? I find it bs that I’m so vunerable for so long.
I think Gief may do alright against Balrog. Rog’s buttons don’t have much range so Gief can really bully with st.FP and cr.LP. And flex bodies rush punches. He can cancel it into v skill and throw but (finally) the risk/reward there seems to be in Gief’s favor. Also, once Gief activates VT, badly spaced rush punch gets punished with cr.LP xx VT. Granted it’s day 1, but I haven’t even felt the least bit uncomfortable in the MU yet.
If you can execute the command quick enough, it will work just like a neutral jump anti-air.
At best you can get it out in 6 frames to catch them in 9 frames. Likewise, Lariat and Sibberian Shoryuken (crouch HP) are also 9 frame start-up. The more complicated command of the BD will mean you need a little bit more anticipation say if you do it this way: D, DF, F, FU, U, UB, B + P. But not so, if you can go straight from a neutral jump like: U, UB, B, DB, D, DF, F + P (all in 6 frames)
.
Against Ryu’s Hadouken, completely viable. The only problem is you have to treat and assume each hadouken as though it were the LP version, so you need to be within 45% screen distance to pop him on audio cue and steer your sails forward. At that spacing, it’s an easy execution window, after some training and anticipation. Though, the Charged Stand HP is a better option - slightly more range.
#1 - VT at 0.6 screen #2 - Charged HP at 0.6 screen or 0.5 screen if LP Hadouken #3 - Lariat at 0.5 screen, or 0.45 screen if LP Hadouken #4 - Forward Jump LP/MK, but it’s really difficult to tag the LP Hadouken #5 - V-Flex (hit) at 0.5 screen
MajinTenshinhan: A lot of people consider Zangief a pretty weak character, but you’re maining him. How good do you think Zangief is in Street Fighter 5?
Itabashi Zangief: He seems like he might be bad, but I think he still has potential, so it all depends on what I can find through practice and research. Therefore, I’m not sure yet. He’s a character that’s definitely worth playing.
I have a question regarding AA as Gief. To start with, s.LP is my go-to AA as it’s just incredibly efficient and reliable.
After AA with s.LP, what do you do? What are the best options? In my league (ultra-bronze), I can usually AA then SPD when they land, at least the first couple times. After they learn, people will land and spam jab or neutral jump again, seemingly countering whatever I do, other than blocking.
So my question to you great Gief minds… what is the optimal game plan after AA with s.LP?
