Not at all. I still check up on what you do. (no homo) Its just the Ranbats just gave everyone a personality behind the button presses. I mean Vic is/was HILARIOUS!!! True. My community had no knowledge of “top tier” until a couple of years ago. We all still played Jill, Cammy and strider lol. It wasn’t until I got the chance to travel to ffa that I started to play thrax.
What I now wonder is if the new generation of on-line players will be discouraged at how much they must learn to catch up or will be addicted to the crack that we all hate and love lol.
It’s 100x easier for new comers to get better at this once online comes out. Online is literally like getting hand fed lessons. Sure you might get owned nonstop as a noob, but that learning experience and seeing what works and is abusable is leaps better than practicing against computer and random roll/gambit/silversam teams.
The most frustrating thing before online was the community. You either were in a good spot or you weren’t. There’s a famous saying that goes (loosely paraphrased) something like: You’re only as good as your competition. It’s definitely true. And you really can’t “train your friends” unless they are at least somewhat die hard to learn a formerly thought dying - and at least very old - game. Even if you did “train your friends” it’s not until they innovate and step up their own shit that you can really get something out of it.
So online (lagless hopefully) is the best thing hands down for marvel. The major difference between winners and losers in marvel is experience. Heck, even “good blocking” is a result of experience. I can think of countless examples where winning or losing was based off of split second advantages that I had due to me being more familiar with certain situations.
