yea i knew i forgot something, the second hit of lk upkicks into U1 works on Ryu if you cr.mp, st.lp, lk upkicks will make the first hit of upkicks whiff
it works on zangief too probably works on others, after command grab st.lpxxlk.upkicks u1
From MYK’s post, some don’t work anymore like Seth’s and T-Hawk.
Meterless Ultra 1 After 2nd Hit Only After LK Upkicks Works On

I’ve been working on Yun for a little bit, and I’m having some trouble against mashers, both throw and uppercut. I feel like I can’t pressure people safely on wakeup, considering his palm is way worse and his command throw got slower, and even stuff like a meaty cr. lk doesn’t seem great because I can’t get a frame trap or anything off of it, so delayed crouch techs are basically unstoppable. There’s gotta be something I’m missing but I have no idea besides learn how to aim better with dive kicks. I’ve been adapting mid match to people who mash throw by DPing immediately after a blocked dive kick but that seems way too risky., and online people can mash uppercut for free. What do I do if people mash DP after a blocked dive kick? They tend to start mashing throw after a bait, and then I don’t know what to do other than mash my own DP. I must be doing this wrong. I don’t see people do this at a higher level, so what am I missing? Also, I feel like shoulder pressure is worse because the pushback is further, and usually the range favors your opponent, at least from what I’ve played against. Am I mistaken?
you have to make your dive kicks very precise if you want to continue pressure. and you have to approach each opponent differently, you can’t just flowchart with yun. if they are mashing after blocked dive kick then you should dp or block, usually just stand teching works best for most opponents if you are -.
oh and meaty lk. dive kick is godlike i get most of my damage from this. it takes practice but usually i find it works best on characters with low & wide hit boxes. i find it very hard on sagat etc. so usually dont bother doing it
Is the meaty lk. dive kick crossup? It can’t really hit in front unless they hit a button…Yeah I feel like Yun is a character that needs great reads, especially considering how vulnerable he is. I guess how fast you can adapt to your opponent is huge because he basically has every offensive tool, but I don’t really know how to apply wakeup pressure with him. I think I’m just not super familiar with his spacing yet and the timing for meaties. Also I cannot beat Chun Li or Blanka. I can’t get in or get them off of me.
Yeah it’s quite annoying to play against DP, but here are things you can do. First off is on wakeup, usually after a combo ending in dragon kick, if you want to bait the DP and punish you can jump forward when they ‘technical’ then do a HK dive kick, you’ll fly to other side and if they mash they’ll come flying to you for a free punish. At this same jump timing, you can MK/LK divekick for a cross combo, but SRK will beat it. Or just jump early and do fake LK/MK divekick to bait it out. It sucks quite a bit but you have to learn to get used to it.
What’s the best OS against characters with good backdashes like Chun, Rose and Rog? I tried doing DaFeetLee’s (found here http://dafeetlee.blogspot.com.br/2011/07/yun-notes.html ), but they always recover in time to block, for some reason.
You’re doing it too slow, it can catch them all but you have to be fast. Not fast enough so it cancels, but fast enough so it will chain/lunge punch OS as quick as possible. Test it out in training mode and get the timing down.
Alright, I managed to get it. Now, to grind it.
A noob question:
Why don’t more Yuns use the command grab in punish situations. Ofc I’m talking about situations were you have lots of time for the punish, lice crumple, dizzy or a missed special wich takes long to recover. The command grab would give you more time to react and more meter. Am I missing something?
If the biggest punish you can get is is cr. mp, st. mp xx Kicks, then go for it. You can even be cute sometimes and do another command grab if you know they aren’t mashing.
BUT that’s not maximum damage in a full punish situation. You would do more damage if you did, for example, FA level 3, MP Shoulder, HP Lunge, for an easy meterless 331 damage. With meter, you can do FA Lvl 3, Ex Palm, LP Shoulder, HP Lunge for 416 damage. Even with just FA level 2, those combos do more damage than the post grab combo.
is he ill?
do he really fit the bill?
spit to kill?
keep things real?
know the drill?
allege edge? still…
catch wreak at will?
YES
today’s forecast, slight chance of flurries
First, using Tenshin mean you would lose 1 Cr.MP in the Punish combo (if you go for Cr.mp cr.mp s.mp xx DP).
Secondly, there is way too many superior punishing combo for Yun, like
Corner:
Focus lv 3, Palm, HK DP
Focus lv 3, Palm, Cl.MK, Dive kick reset
Focus lv 3, back dash, delay palm, LP SHoulder, HP Lunge
Anything to Cr.MP Cr.MP S.MP xx Ex DP, Ultra 1 (For fast punishing combo)
Mid Screen:
Focus lv 3, Ex palm, LP Shoulder, HP lunge
Focus lv 3/J.HP, Cr.MP Cr.MP (Cr.MP) S.MP xx DP (or Ex DP then LP Lunge)
The only situation where you would do Focus lv 3 then Command Grab or anything involve the command grab in the combo are:
- Opponent has low health, so you use command grab to maximise Meter
- You try to put yourself in the corner for specific combo or more Cr.MP added
- You want to do a Double Command Grab to reset the damage scaling or you command grab in the middle of the combo to reset (Bad against mashers)
legitimate thank you for this, i realize there are other sources, but this is as concise and to the point as ive ever seen this information
ive wasted so much stupid time on genie jin
maybe for situations where you are are in the corner, and you don’t have enough time to switch side
=> tenshin, MP upkick EX ultra 1
Focus lv 3, back dash, delay palm, LP SHoulder, HP Lunge => Cannot do it vs Ryu at least, is it pre 2012 ??
or is it so tight timing, that i prefer to give up
it’s already a bit tight to do the palm, close MK against some chars (like ryu…)
corner i use FA 2 for kick test and damage, use lvl 3 in real life
FA lvl 2 forward dash palm , hk upkick = 290
FA lvl 2 forward dash palm , close MK launch, LP lunge = 288, but slightly more super (or use the reset after dive)
FA lvl 2 back dash, palm EX, close mk launch, MP lunge = 316
the non corner Focus lv 2, Ex palm, LP Shoulder, HP lunge does 344
Start input the Palm when u see Yun finish dashing back and stand still.
If it is AE, then we can go straight for Double Palm, or even MP or in some extent, HP Shoulder to Dhalsim :))
The MK is quite easy, way easier than ultra for me.
Some character like Cody or Fei Long fall out of 2nd hit of HK upkick, so MK is a must, bah…the damage
Yun damage output is still OK i think, you feel like a lot worse because IT IS WAY HARDER TO ENTER/SETUP those combo. No dive kick in, no Tenshin, No (comboable) ex lunge to Ultra. I think thats why Yun feel so hard to play now. Before I use to combo into his Ultra every round, now may be once per 2 or 3 round.
Go straight for Ex Upkick, just mash if there is lag or you not good at post-tenshin combo (which I do, missed the Cr.MP 3 frame link every times)
Hey guys I’m having trouble doing consistent dive kicks on my fightstick, is there a method you guys use ?
neutral jump/forward jump, down-forward, kick button. no real method to it… if you’re having trouble tho, turn on input display. you might be holding down instead of down-forward.
Saw Doiga doing a Genei Jin combo that’s kind of hard for me to get down (…st.HK, dash forward, HK kicks, launcher, HK kicks, launcher, HK kicks etc.)
Is this the new optimal corner pushing GJ combo?
edit: Also does that C. Viper OS still work (cr.lk, st.MP+st.LP) or does the new hurt box screw it up? thanks.
