Yun Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

Block.

Delayed crouch tech is exactly that. A delayed crouch tech. You do it by crouch teching later.

if i block, then i keep getting grabbed by my oppoent. i tried delay crouching tech before but i get framed trap the moment i start it.

Then read your opponent. It’s rock paper scissors.

throw > block > reversal > throw > etc.

is there any particularly good way in doing that? im not even sure whenever my opponent (who plays yang) uses true block strings or frame traps. im also not sure about how many frames i need to delay for crouching tech. what would be the usual number of frames of delay i would need? sorry for asking so many newbie questions

If you’re not sure, then just keep blocking until you do. Don’t worry about taking damage, getting hit, or getting thrown. It’s not a tournament match, or even a serious match for that matter. It’s just some random online battle that nobody cares about. Use this time to download your opponent. While you’re blocking, what are you seeing? Do you know what you’re blocking? What is your opponent hitting you with? If your opponent is doing something simple like dive kick , cr.LP , cr.LP , throw, several times in a row, and you still can’t realize his strings, then maybe you need to spend some time in training mode to learn what most jab/strong/fierces look like, and likewise with short/forward/roundhouse.

Delaying crouch tech depends what you’re delaying it for, and what your opponent’s strings are. See why it’s important to read your opponent first? If you blindly mash crouch tech, or if you blindly delay crouch tech, your opponent is going to hit you, or throw you.

Lastly, true block strings are strings where you cannot reversal dp out of. Frame traps you can, because they leave gaps for you to do something, like mash crouch tech, except you’ll get punished for it because it’s actually a trap, hence the name frame trap.

okay. thank you very much for your help. i think i understand how it works right now. i have also heard to look for whether a throw is possible depending on the distance between my character and my opponent’s. i will keep both things in mind.

Now, can I have a little help here, please? I probably won’t need this info for quite a few weeks (until I get my execution down to the perfection), but it’s nice to know them, so I can start using them in online matches.

how many frames of wakeup does yun have?

The same as everyone else.

you have reliable source that it’s 71? it seems so fast >.<,

Yun/Yang are both prey to Ryu’s standard safe jump since vanilla:
cr.HK , j.HP

The safe jump is so easy, all you have to do is hold up forward during the cr.HK animation. That safe jump also works on nearly everyone else safe jumpable, including DeeJay, Guile, etc. The only problem is with unusual wakeup characters, like Cammy, Sagat, Blanka, and super Adon.

i will swap my vanilla sf4 to confirm this, since you cite no source

I’m pretty sure it’s common knowledge if you’ve ever played Ryu.

I have try to test several normal BnB that people recommend that is beter than the target combo (LP LK MP), but was surprise that they do less damage than the target combo, except for Cr.LP S.LP S.MP which do exactly the same damage, and the Cr.LP/Cr.Lk - S.LP - Cr.MP - S.MP and those pure Cr.MP S.HP combo. If that, why dont people use target combo for block string and combo, since it can be confirmable, nearly impossible to drop and do quite ok damage compare with other standard BnB that does not involve more than 1 S.MP/Cr.Mp. Also, i think using it in Block string increase the speed, since the block string happen so fast that your opponent may be unaware about it. It also gain good meter.

Are you able to chain the TC after the dive kick?

Yes? Why not? I mean it just start with a S.LP, and I found using the (LP LK MP)target combo easier than other BnB because i dont have to worry about dropping combo. Adding a Cr.LK at the start also nice too.

Dont know why no one is using the target combo, since the damage is just all the move combine together (20 + 20 + 50). Doing Cr.LP S.LP Cr.MP look cool but it is a 2 frame link and you only have like 10 damage increase.

still the MP combo are still the best though, but I dont think I can pull those off constantly.

What about cr.LP st.LP cr.MP st.MP? Surely that does more damage, and nobody does cr.MP without linking st.MP afterward.

Ah yes, those are like the best one with the normal BnB too, but you need to link 2 frame link twice, which is…er…possible to drop sometimes and are situation specific as your opponent may get knock back too far away for the S.MP to hit.

But it is not as popular as those Cr.LP S.LP S.MP and variation of them, dont know why? Is there a down size of using target combo or is it using target combo make you look less cool or something?

Even my friends said to me: Bah, you cant link, you only use target combo. Where are all those BnB. Thats not the real Yun. When the truth is, except for the pure MP Combo (64 damage different with Dive Kick) and the combo you listed (which being 25 more damage with Dive Kick) and those MP to MK combo, other BnB deal lower damage or a little bit more, but you require a 2 frame link for nearly every combo

Pfsh it’s just a 2frame link. Man up and practice your execution. Yun has probably the easiest combos in the game. He’s the only character I know of that has little need for 1frame links, or other high execution techniques (TK special, IA special, SJC, etc.).

No, i try the combo in training mode and feel very comfortable with it. I also like that Yun is one of the character that require heavy Links but only 2 frame at max. 1 frame link for Yun, I dont think I have read over any of them or may be they are useless.

But in the match, I cant keep my self calm. It is like a burden inside me to not dropping combo, SO I DROPPED THEM. Also, in real match it is very situational, as sometimes i just use the same combo and the opponent was pushed back to far away, so i droped them. Or I panic and turn out mashing the last link and my character just does some silly think (Cr.HK, random DK).

Also, the fact that I play on Keyboard (meh… to lazy to change…all those year player shooters and sport games) make plink quite hard. It is possible though, I have use them constantly, but it require a freaking good keyboard and LUCK. I mean, you dont know if you can plink it correctly or not. I have a good keyboard for plinking because their buttons are “stick like”, but they cant PLINK! cant KARA!.

Life is so hard…
