That sounds like and looks like a plink to me. I’m not sure what the “proper” way to double tap is but the way one of my friends does it is that he hits the button once with his middle finger and then again with his pointer finger. I have NO idea how the fuck he does it.

I notice after a corner carry I have trouble juggling mp lunge into two hp palms, often because their character is too low to the ground to hit the second palm. Do I need to use hp lunge to get this juggle, or can I kara palm the second HP palm and get the juggle? I’ve been using mp lunge to avoid weirdness with switching sides.
Has anyone found decent set-ups to stuff reversal DPs that work consistently? So far I’ve only one and it’s not really the greatest considering it can’t combo into anything and usually only works mid-screen. (…HK Kicks, wait a bit, jump over, delayed MK dive kick)
Another possible one involves getting a forward throw, dashing forward, and doing an HK Dive kick but the timing is hard to get down.

plinking is better than double tapping for yun MP links. Do the math - that is why not to use it. Your essentially mashing like a turbo button rather than using timing. The second MP will come on a negative edge. The third will be on the completely wrong tap. Vesper is also wrong in his assessment of double tapping in his tutorial. The tutorials are still great, but that is not the best way to use double tapping. Double tapping has it’s place, but is NOT better than plinking two frame links :).
Also, single tapping is better with bison.
ANYWAYS, not trying to start a huge debate, just think it out for yourself. Seems kind of obvious.
HAS ANYONE: Translated more of the mook, if there is more? I still find the frame data on dive kicks confusing; at least the explanation is.
Considering all the lunges do the same damage in GJ just use which ever one juggles the best. There is nothing wrong with using the HP version. Most important is getting your timing down so you can come out of the GJ in the best position.
Just go from LP to MP. It is a natural frame trap. You can delay to make it work better.

The time is very strict on the second palm. You want to time it right after the first one hits. Daigo is too good and makes it look easy.
You can plink using a lower priority kick button. If using Hp. Palm, you can use Mk. or Lk. to plink.

If you’ve ever done Sagat trials, it’s pretty much the same thing for doing the fake HK. You gotta double tap the HK rather quickly.

This makes no sense at all. Double tapping allows you to execute EARLIER than plinking and still get the full combo. To double tap this link too early you’d have to do it 4 frames too early. Thats called mashing.

When you double tap you hit twice. You’re not ‘mashing like a turbo button’. There is no ‘third’ anything because you’re hitting twice…normals do not come out on negative edge.
I’m going to do a quick writeup for people like who you are absolutely out to lunch on the subject. This is me ‘doing the math’. I look forward to see whatever ‘math’ you had the led you to the conclusion that this is not a good idea.
Double tapping is a 3 frame process. You hit the button on the first frame - quickly move your finger off allowing the button to come up for the second frame - and quickly hit the button with a different finger on the third frame. Think of the inputs like this
- 1 - 0 - 1 -
Where 1 = a button press and 0 indicates nothing.
A 2 frame link means there is a 2 frame window for the input to connect. The brackets in these next examples indicate the space in which an input is needed for the link to work. Note that there are 4 possible input timings - hense why double tapping a 2 frame link turns it into a 4 frame link.
0 - 0 - 0 - (0 - 1) - 0 - 1 - 0
0 - 0 - 0 - (1 - 0) - 1 - 0 - 0
0 - 0 - 1 - (0 - 1) - 0 - 0 - 0
0 - 1 - 0 - (1 - 0) - 0 - 0 - 0
Plinking gives two inputs without a frame in between them - so it effectually turns this into a 3 frame link.
0 - 0 - 0 - (0 - 1) - 1 - 0
0 - 0 - 0 - (1 - 1) - 0 - 0
0 - 0 - 1 - (1 - 0) - 0 - 0
0 - 1 - 1 - (0 - 0) - 0 - 0 <- This would result in a missed link
It is important to note that plinking improperly will either cause a chain to come out or whatever the secondary input used was (jab or short in this case) if the buttons are pressed at the same time accidentally or too far apart. In double tapping only the desired input is pressed, so its all you’ll ever see.
HP lunges are going to eat up a lot of GJ time and result in weaker combos. LP punch and forward mk is what you want to use.
you get one extra frame by double tapping but only if you can double tap consistently. Even a turbo controller cannot double tap consistently. Why would you put holes in you input when you can just extend it with a plink? Double tapping is better for special moves like linking into DPs or HB, etc… because you get a negative edge. Plinking is better for all normals links because it is much more consistent.
Only in theory is double tapping going to outweigh plinking for normals links.
